My son loves reading chapter books and especially when we curl up and read. Spooky and mysterious! Great read.
I love middle grades that are spooky! Sorta scary and super fun with lovable characters. I loved the take/discussion on fears and generational trauma, I think this was written well.
Micah just want to figure out her grandfather’s secret history with a decrepit Victorian home that he forbids her from going to. When eleven year old Micah finds out that she has very little time left with her grandpa because she is moving out of their home with her mom. When Micah decides to take a bike ride to the Finch House, a house her grandfather forbids her from going to but never really tells her why or what is the reason for his deep dislike of it, she meets Theo, a boy who has just moved into the house. When her grandfather finds out, he is upset and this finally spurs her to uncover the secret history her grandfather has with the house. The more she pries into the history of her grandfather and the house, the more she’s beginning to realize that the house is very much alive and that it’s not just a house.. it’s something much more. Can she find a way to make it out alive? This was a very Coraline-esque story and I think it’s a really fun read for the autumn spooky season!
