Thank you NetGalley and author M.N Beck for the copy in exchange of my honest review.

"He commands death with the whisper of his breath, and he has her in his crosshairs.

Kai, a demon-slayer with the unique ability of holy fire, has vowed to be a force in the dark, protecting humans from otherworldly bloodlust. This ability has made her a target among her peers, but a prized weapon in Coetus, the organization that has trained her.

When a new foe enters the realm and begins killing members of Coetus, Kai is tasked with stopping him with her place in the organization dependent on her ability to destroy him. But death’s ruler is impossible to kill.

The Prince of Death has a goal of his own and as Kai draws closer to the enemy, she gains his deadly attention, becoming ensnared in his grasp. With lives hanging in the balance, Kai will be forced to forge alliances to help her defeat the Prince of Death before he gets to her first.

Kai will tread a path of pain, loss, discovery and love in her hunt to slay the Prince of Death.

Fire and Brimstone: The Prince of Death is the first book in this dark fantasy series and a slow burn, enemies to lovers romance."

I thoroughly enjoy reading this book. Great world building and characters. Tons of adventure, actions, tensions.

A compelling story that felt like a good start to a promising series. The world building was unique and took most of the book to establish. Im hoping book 2 will really dive into the heart of the story.

I found it difficult to rate this book, but I think I'll go with three stars.
"Fire and Brimstone" really reminded me of Demon Road (Derek Landy) and a Wattpad-Story, but in a good way! I found the book really easy to read and was invested, so it did not take long to read. The book ends in a way that certainly makes a continuation possible and left me wanting to know how it continues, but it wasn't too bad.
So, if you're looking for a story with demons, vampires, fae, werewolves and angelic creatures, this is definitely a nice read! I also liked the urban fantasy setting in Chicago, it fit the story and the characters well. There ist romance (enemies to lovers, in a way), but it does not entirely take over the story, so I'd say its more of a subplot, which I personally enjoyed.
I've seen criticism of the writing - while I agree that it's not poetic or something, I did not have an issue with it. It's simple and readable.
Now, let's get to the issues I had with the book.
The female main character did give certain "not like other girls"-vibes, which I tend to dislike. It wasn't too obvious, but it did happen now and then.
Another thing, and possible one of the reasons it made me think of a Wattpad-story: everyone is very good looking and attracted to the main character. Again, not too obvious, so it was okay, but not something I tend to like.
And, lastly, the biggest thing: the book has certain religious undertones. The church plays a big part in the book, which I found quite irritating at first, but I actually got used to it pretty quickly. Throughout the book, I didn't feel like it became really clear what the author's intention with the inclusion of the church was. I wish that would've been explored more deeply, because this felt as if the author is either still very much in the church or trying to deconstruct, it just wasn't clear. There is also one mention of Israel throughout the book, which I wasn't quite clear about. It is the only country mentioned in the book (as far as I can remember) and it is mentioned in <spoiler>connection with experiments (e.g. on humans) the church has been conducting. </spoiler> I have no idea why Israel was mentioned, but the context made me a little uncomfortable, because it seemed so random. Towards the end, <spoiler>the beings that were experimented on were freed. A few of these were pregnant women, forcibly inseminated for the sake of experiments. One of the women asks the main character to rid her of the fetus, which I found understandable. The main character refused, which I did not have an issue with. I found the reasoning odd. The main character touches the stomach of the woman, feels the baby kick and thinks somethings along the lines of "its not the fault of the innocent child". </spoiler> Again, there was a pretty religious feeling in the reasoning. I wasn't a fan of that scene and, again, did not understand what context religion is used in.

So, as a summary: The story is nice, nothing special but easy to read and interesting. If you have any religious trauma or do not like to read about religion, I think this book might not be for you.

Full disclosure: I received the ARC of this book, my opinions are entirely my own. Thank you to NetGalley, Green Elk Publishing and M.N. Beck for providing me with the ARC of "Fire and Brimstone".

Kai is a demon slayer sworn to live as a soldier to a mysterious organization called Coetus. Her life is difficult, her abilities to manipulate holy fire cause her to be distrusted by Coetus leadership and even her fellow slayers are wary of her. Completely isolated and dependent on Coetus' generosity for her survival, and she often finds herself vulnerable and in situations that she can't reconcile with her duty as a slayer. When the Prince of Death begins hunting members of her guild she is tasked with hunting him down and ending his reign of terror at all costs.

This book includes:
- angels and demons
- friends to enemies
- fae, vampires, werewolves and the like
- concealed identities
- detailed fighting scenes
- shadow daddy

"Fire and Brimstone" is an entertaining read. It kept my attention throughout the entire story and I enjoyed the twists in the plot, despite finding them very predictable. This is a great book for someone who enjoys a fantasy drama, but maybe isn't wanting something too complex.

While entertaining, I did feel like "Fire and Brimston" was lacking depth and I wish that we could have seen more of the emotional/mental toll indoctrination caused on Kai. When her entire world turned upside-down, I wanted to really feel her pain, confusion, fear, and even her wrath, but her emotional response felt a little one-dimensional. I also felt like the chemistry between our characters, both platonic and romantic, was lacking, especially since the storyline was set up so well to include some real character depth. All that said, I think this book left off at a place where I can see M. N. Beck being able to include these deeper emotions in book 2, and I have faith in the series' ability to touch people's hearts.

I recommend this book to fans of "the Fourth Wing" and younger ACOTAR readers.

I received this ebook as an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you to NetGalley and Green Elk Publishing for the opportunity to review this book.

I loved this book! It had me hooked since the first page. I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to see if there ends up being more in store for Kai. She is amazing. I loved the quick wit and attitude of her character and the fact that she found someone who could keep up with her blow for blow in a fight. Was a great pace, a great read and I recommend it to anyone.

I was in my demon slayer era when I accepted this ARC and I was not disappointed. This was very well written and I was left wanting more!

I had mixed feelings about this book, which is a dark urban fantasy with a demon-slayer heroine and a mysterious enemy. The book had some good elements, such as the action-packed scenes, the diverse supernatural creatures, and the intriguing magic system. However, it also had some flaws, such as the poor writing, the confusing plot, and the unlikable characters.

The book follows Kai, a half-fae, half-shifter who can create holy fire, as she hunts down a powerful foe who is killing members of her organization, Coetus. Along the way, she encounters various enemies and allies, such as vampires, werewolves, demons, and angels. She also learns more about her past and her destiny and develops a strange attraction to her nemesis.

In addition, the writing style is sloppy and monotonous. The author frequently tells rather than illustrates and overuses adjectives and adverbs. The humor falls flat, and the speech is frequently corny and unrealistic. The romance lacks chemistry and depth and is also forced and unrealistic.

The characters, particularly Kai, who was intended to be a fierce heroine but came across as a petulant and innocent girl, were bland and unlikeable. She was continually being saved or used as a pawn by others since she lacked personality or agency. She also felt an odd affinity to her adversary, a jerk who was harsh and aggressive. There was no chemistry or progression in the forced and ridiculous romance. Additionally flat and stereotyped, with little depth or significance, were the ancillary characters.

Overall, this book was a letdown and a waste of time. I would not recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good urban fantasy or a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance. This book contains violence, mild language and suggested spice¹, but it does not make up for the lack of quality and creativity.

An entertaining book but I wish it had more depth.

Kai is a demon hunter-a slater-the only one she knows of who possesses Holy Fire. She's been tasked with hunting the Prince of Death. But as she begins her mission, she learns that there is more happening than meets the eye. And her loyalty to Coetus, the church-like group that trained her, is tested.

This book felt like stepping back in time and watching an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was comforting and entertaining, but there wasn't anything particularly special about it. I wish there had been more depth to the characters. Kai has a tragic backstory involving a close friend that was barely explored. And Kai has a current friendship with a fae male even though Coetus appears not to be very friendly toward fae.

Both were large unresolved questions that hung over the story as it progressed. At a certian point, I just needed to put those aside so that I could follow along with the events of the book. A little more development would have made this three-star read into a four-star one.

The book had a lot of potential and the premise of the story was quite interesting. It didn't keep my grip as some others book did, but I still would recommend it.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley!

Kai is a demon slayer with a unique ability, but when she catches the attention of the Prince of Death all is not what it seems!

I REALLY wanted to like this book, but I got about 60% through and gave up. I wasn’t invested with any character, the writing style didn’t resonate with me, and I found myself skipping pages at a time looking for something to grip me but it never did. I may revisit at a later date.

Fire and Brimstone had a lot of potentially and really I expected so much more from it. I found the world building to be lacking and I expected a bit more from it. The chemistry was lacking and felt forced between the characters.

This was such an amazing read! I flew through this book in one afternoon because I could not stop! The characters were so unique and gripping that I really adored them. The author did a great job with keeping the plot moving and avoiding any stale moments. I will be recommending this book to everyone I know!

LOVED IT! Urban fantasy and srangers to friends to enemies to lovers? Count me in!

I really enjoyed the story, I loved learning about Kai, he struggles, her life what drives her. It was interesting to see her end up even more badass than she started at the beginning. I also loved seeing her and Kami, the protection, the need to save her no matter what.

And Brahm, well hello! Death may be evil but this Prince definitely was not.

Can't wait to see what the story brings next!

Kai is a hunter of demons, with the organization Coetus, that works to protect humans from deadly bloodthirsty creatures. Her power of holy fire sets her apart from other slayers.

Kai is sent on a mission to kill the Prince of Death. Coetus gives her just days to complete her mission or she won't be allowed back. But not all is what it seems with Coetus, and, with herself.

I really enjoyed this book and I'm glad there will be a continuation because we must have our war. Without giving spoilers, I had other ideas who was going to be the prince of death. I can't wait for book 2.

I unfortunately did not finish this book… there were quite a few punctuation and grammatical errors…

I think the actually plot and story idea could be amazing. I would’ve liked more world building and more descriptive writing.

I think that the sexual tension written between Brahm and Kai felt a bit forced. It just would have been great to get more of a build up.

I enjoyed this one. It got off to a slow start and Kai was annoying and hard-headed at the beginning, so it was hard to get sucked in. You definitely see the main character develop as the story goes, so that's a redeeming quality to the story. It is kind of predictable with the enemy to lovers trope, and how there are buried secrets but overall is a solid book, and an entertaining one at that. I'm wondering where the story will go from here so I'll definitely be looking forward to the next one.

A fun romantasy with intriguing characters and world-building. I hope there's more.

A huge thank you to NetGalley for providing this ARC to me for an honest review in return!

This book has so many cool aspects to it. A little bit of Constantine mixed with a little bit of Angels and Demons, and a whole lot of some of my favorite creatures. Vampires, werewolves, etc.

Fire and Brimstone follows Kai, a slayer for a secret organization that takes out evil creatures such as those listed above. She thinks that it’s her one purpose in life, and goes about her life protecting the innocent by slaying otherworldlies by night. Soon however, Kai learns everything is not as it seems when she meets a handsome stranger with strange gray eyes, who changes the way she thinks about everything, including herself.

Overall this book is pretty good. The pacing needs some smoothing out, but the book has solid framework for a great story.
