This was such a cute start to a cozy witch mystery. Blair is such a fun humorous character. Finding out you are a shifter by changing into a cat was such a trip! The story was interesting. I will be continuing the series. The narration was fabulous. Thank you to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for the audio arc in exchange for my honest review.

I absolutely adored this magical, whimsical audiobook. The narrator had such a soothing voice, and honestly, she made the book. I loved following all the characters in their adventures. I would love to live in an inn with people like this!

Although the story had some cute moments, overall, it failed to leave a lasting impression. As a result, I have decided not to continue listening to the rest of the series.

Thank you so much NetGalley and Tantor Audio for this audiobook alc!

4.25/5 stars

This was a hoot, honestly. It was funny, cute, quick, and easy on the brain, exactly what I needed during this holiday madness lol. I really enjoyed this world and every character that was in it. I am so happy this is the first in a series, too! I will absolutely be picking up the next one when I can :D

The audiobook was very well done, too. The narration by Amanda Ronconi was fantastic and engaging, and I could easily tell which character was which by her voices. Fantastic listen!

Blair leads a pretty normal, boring life: work, home, work, home. She suffers from insomnia and one night she witnesses a scene that she could not believe - a vampire attack. Blair runs for her life and escapes the vampire, but unfortunately she was so startled that she turned into a cat. Was she dreaming? It couldn't be real, could it? Blair is immediately introduced to the world of magic (who knew she was a witch?!) and until the vampire is caught, she is placed with a wonderful family who, along with their friends, help Blair navigate her new found powers.

This was a super cute book. I enjoyed listening to it; the narrator was delightful. It wasn't your typical "magical" story and there was nothing scary about it. It was a lot of fun and light. I would love to listen to, or read, more from this series. It was a change from the intense thrillers I usually enjoy and I'm really glad I gave this one a listen. The pace was just right and the details that were given painted the perfect picture. Excellent story!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the chance to listen to this book for free. This was my honest review.

This was a fun cozy paranormal mystery.
The audio was great and I´m hoping the rest of the series will come in audio too.
And I might have to look into the other series by this author.

This is such a fun paranormal cozy mystery. In true Danielle Garrett style, the characters are lovable and entertaining. Some mysteries are solved in this book and some seem they will carry through the series. A budding (clean) romance seems in store for this kitty shifter. I love how she always has cats in her books!

I love a witchy read, and find myself adding as many as I can find, and was so excited when I discovered this as an audiobook for review.

WITCHES IN THE KITCHEN is the first in a paranormal mystery series, involving a woman who witnessed a vampire attack outside her window.

It was a fun cozy mystery, and I thought the audio narration was great, and I can’t wait to continue on in this series.

*many thanks to Tantor audio for the gifted copy for review

This is a new paranormal mystery series. One night Blair is watching out her window and sees someone attacked by a vampire, and a bunch more. She freaks out and turns into a black cat. She never knew she could do this, and it has her in panic mode. In walks a cute guy from the SPA (supernatural protection agency) to whisk her off to a safe house. This safe house is actually a bread and breakfast for magic folk. And the mystery goes from there.

For me this book was not memorable. It was cute, and I was glad to have listened to it, but after a month, I will not remember much about it. It is very run of the mill. Plus, it is written in first person, which drives me crazy. The book was good, but I would not remember enough of it to continue the series.

Cute opening to the series. I loved her turning into a cat whenever she's startled. Unique characters. Looking forward to reading more books in the series.

5 out of 5 stars Thank you to Netgalley and to Tantor Audio

This was such a cute, fun and cozy little fantasy. Blair is such a fun character and probably the most perfect girl to introduce us to this world as she is a complete newbie as well.

The inn was so cute and I want to stay there! Please! Amanda Ronconi was the perfect narrator. Beechwood Harbor was super fun and I now want to read the series before this. Audible, here I come!

Danielle Garrett begins her new Magic Inn Paranormal Mysteries with Witches in the Kitchen.  This series starts out with protagonist Blair witnessing a vampire attack without knowing what exactly she saw.  When the vampire realizes that he has been seen, he chases her in an attempt to prevent her from telling anyone what she saw.  During Blair’s attempt to escape the vampire, she suddenly becomes a cat which is her first clue that she may be something more than she thought.  As a result, Blair is taken into protective custody by a group of investigators from the paranormal realm and taken to Magic Inn.

Although this series is a spin-off of the author’s other books set in Beechwood Harbor, the reader can easily read this book as their first exposure to this group of books.  Within this book, the author has created a cast of characters that, although each is dysfunctional in their own way, come together with their individual talents and characteristics which complement each other to make a cohesive group of inhabitants for the Magic Inn and the surrounding area.  Within this story, there are several side plots and additional mysteries that enable the characters to become enmeshed in each other’s lives in a variety of ways. Although the vampire is not actually captured within this story, Blair is able to finally identify him from photos that she is provided with but the additional side plots are resolved through a series of events and misdirects that bring the characters closer together and ultimately leads Blair to remain at the Magic Inn to learn more about her powers and explore her new future.  I look forward to more installments in this series and plan to go back and read this author’s backlist as well.

The narrator of this audiobook does an excellent job of creating the various voices and setting a pace that the listener can easily follow the storyline while adjusting for the action scenes.

I received an ARC of this audiobook from NetGalley and Tantor Audio and am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is just really not my thing anymore. The tone of "oh my god what is happening, also i broke my diet" feels really old and old fashioned. Just not at all into it.

Witches in the Kitchen by Danielle Garrett, narrated by Amanda Ronconi, is the series starter for a paranormal series with a dash of romance. A picture-perfect seaside town filled with humans who don't know about their witchy neighbors. Up until a week ago, my only knowledge of magic came from the movies. Unfortunately, it didn't stay that way. A bout of insomnia leads to witnessing a scene that belongs in a vampire flick-only, the fangs looked way more realistic. One second, I was running for my life, and the next, I found myself choking on a hairball in the back of an SUV. That's right, a hairball. See, my body's been hiding a pretty big secret, and I'm some kind of witch. One that turns into a cat when under duress. Apparently, my choices are fight, flight, or fur. Overnight, I find myself thrust into a world of magic and mayhem beyond my most wild sleep-deprived delirium. Until the murderous vampire is captured, I'm placed into some kind of witch-ness protection program, and sent to live in a house full of actual monsters. What's the worst that could happen? Hey, at least running for my life will help me squeeze in my cardio.

Witches in the Kitchen is a series starter, but this is third series set in the same town, and I think the sixth in the same world. I have not read any of the previous books, and since Blair is new to the world of magic most of the big stuff was explained and I felt like I knew enough to still enjoy the read. However, I think returning readers will enjoy seeing characters from the prior series and get a kick out of some of the cameos. With this being a series starter, and so much needing to be explained to newcomers, I did feel like the pacing was a little slow, and honestly I kept expecting a character or two from the pre magic moments in the book to pop up and make an appearance in the magical half. I also rather expected a twist or two that did not happen, although there was one I did not expect. I did like the fact that the romance did not overwhelm the mystery and other aspects of the book. I thought the premise and execution was well done and enjoyable enough that I think I will go back and start at the beginning of the first series and see if the first couple books make me happy. I think I would have enjoyed this book more with a little more of the background knowledge from the other books. I found that Ronconi did a wonderful job with the narration, and the tones and inflections used brought Blair to life.

Witches in the Kitchen is a fun read that nicely balances romance with mystery and magical world building.

I have found a new author to enjoy! This was my first taste of Danielle Garrett, and it will not be my last. A fun witty story with a fast easily flowing pace. The narrator was easy to listen to, and does an excellent job of getting the emotions to come through. I didn't quite listen to it in one sitting, but I ripped through it in less than two days. Really looking forward to the next book in the series!

Witches in the Kitchen by Danielle Garrett is a cute story about a girl who has no idea she’s a witch. When she is chased by a vampire, she suddenly finds herself in cat form. What ensues is a fun tale of potions and fire and witches and mystery. Thanks NetGalley.

I enjoyed the book, particularly as an audiobook experience rather than a read. The magical world had a more interesting if not original premise. There are pockets of magical world between our regular mortal space. The book gives a strong 'Charmed' vibe. Blair, the titular character finds friends among the inn-dwellers. Holly and Harmony are those gorgeous friends you wish you could be. As such, fans of cozies will be absolutely dazzled by this book. I personally found it to be a nice welcome back from a reading slump. I'd definitely want to read something similar when I'm not in the mood for anything deep. It has left me wanting to read more about Garrett's magical universe.

Cute, cozy, funny. An easy read, I wasn’t sure what to expect but this is as a charming witching mystery and exactly what I wanted to listen to (I had the audio version) right now. I would read/listen to the other books from this author (there’s lots!).

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in return of my honest review.

Blair lives a fairly bland life in Tacoma WA, working a stressful job for Pink Bubble Books, an accounting software company. Late one night, when she is up with insomnia, Blair thinks she sees someone suspicious outside but brushes it off, next thing she knows, a vampire is chasing her down the street and that’s when something even more strange happens, she finds herself morphing into a cat! Nothing like this has ever happened to her before and Blair is soon rescued by Agent Swan from the SPA and taken to a Haven in a Magical Inn. She has a lot to learn about this new magical world, which she had no idea even existed until now.

This book is the first in a series of books based around The Magic Inn. A wonderfully cute and cosy mystery with magical and paranormal elements. I really enjoyed Witches in the Kitchen, it was relatable and fun with well rounded characters, an engaging plot and great world building. A lovely light read to chill out with. I will definitely be reading further into this series. (The fun writing style and content reminds me of David R. Slayton’s - Adam Binder series, I would recommend this if you enjoyed those and vice versa)

The narrator was great and convincing as Blair, she worked really well for this book, keeping it upbeat and holding your attention well.

(One thing I would say is that I really dislike the cover art, it’s very cheesy/80’s and I think you could do something amazing for the cover especially with such fun content and this would also make it appeal to a wider audience)

I loved this book. Absolutely adored! I loved it so much, in fact, that I went to my libby app and downloaded everything I could from this author. This is a series with in a series and I love that so much. I love when the world is already so built up, and you're able to just fall into it! This isn't one of those series where you HAVE to read all the others to 'get' it. You can read this one and then go back and catch up. All the characters are so well-thought-out and so complete, it's like jumping into a friend group you always wanted.
