An easy-to-read, cosy urban fantasy and mystery story with an unintentionally shapeshifting protagonist. I enjoyed the quirky characters and the humour in this book, as well as watching Blair being plunged into a magical world she didn’t know existed after seeing a crime being committed outside her apartment. The crime became irrelevant until the end of the book which seemed a little odd but there was another mystery to unravel when a smaller-scale crime occurs in Blair’s new town, one which is wrapped up by the end of the book. I wouldn’t say a whole lot really happens in this book and it definitely didn’t go the way I thought it would considering how it began, but it was a good read anyway and I liked the easy pace of it.

I received a free copy of this book. All views are my own.

This was a great start to a new series of cozy paranormal mysteries.
Blair is a good MC with a bunch of well developed side characters.
I do wish there was more sarcasm/banter within the pages, always fun to read.
Maybe in the next one?
The mystery was interesting without overtaking the entire story, and the town is cute with lots of potential for more. Definitely interested in seeing how this series progresses.
Much love to NetGalley & Tantor Audio for my DRC.

This is the first book in a new series by Danielle Garrett. Blair is headed home after a normal day when she is suddenly thrown into the paranormal world when she witnesses a crime. Not only does she learn magic exists but that she has it as well. This book was so much fun! There are a ton of entertaining characters. The magical world and system is really interesting.

I really love paranormal mysteries and am really glad to see that Danielle Garrett has other books along these lines because I will be investing in more soon!

What an absolute delight, and a wonderful start to a new series!

A quick-moving and humorous paranormal mystery, with just a touch of romance - exactly the way I like my cozy mysteries. The banter had a few cringe moments but the majority was relatable, entertaining, and made me snort-laugh as I listened to the audiobook.

Amanda Ronconi did a phenomenal job with the narration - her depiction of the MC was exactly as I would have imagined it to be. It allowed me to connect with the characters even more deeply than if I had only read the text.

I haven't read any of this author's work before, so I will be diving into her other series while I wait for this sequel!

I loved Danielle Garrett’s Beechwood Harbor Ghost mysteries so I was excited for another chance to visit Beechwood Harbor. I loved the mention of other characters from the different series in this one and I enjoyed this new series as well. The story was well-paced and Blair is an interesting character as someone who is just learning about her new powers. I can’t wait to see what they get up to next.

This is a very cute book with a good amount of humor mixing with supernatural themes. The narrator is one of my favorite. I've since discovered she narrates the other series of which this is a spin off so I'll be looking into those next!

This is a really lovely, cosy story and the audiobook is done very well. I recently learned that this is both the first in a new series and also a spin off of a whole other series of cosy reads!! I'll have to find them all because I need more of this world!

I loved following the story of Blair as she discovers her magical abilities and explores the magical world. The mystery element wasn't stressful but also added a little bit of edge to an otherwise heartwarming story. There are plenty of friends around to guide Blair and a love interest is sprinkled in for good measure.

This is a well-written, engaging book and I think fans of Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree would enjoy this one!

As a fan of author Danielle Garrett, I was excited to see a new series from her. I don't think I had seen any information this was coming out so it was an extra surprise.

This series is set a few years after the end of the Beechwood Harbor Mystery series and takes place in the same universe of Beechwood Harbor and the Seattle Haven. Quite a few characters from that series are included in this book, including Holly, Adam, Harmony, Boots, and Agent Bramble just to mention a few. The new main character introduced is Blair McGill, a woman who discovers her magical powers in her thirties. She is thrown into her new magical life when she is attacked by a vampire. The Beechwood Harbor magical community tries to help her cope and learn about her new magical powers, but it's ultimately up to her if she wants to pursue this.

The writing is up to Garrett's usual high standards. Enough background is given so that you don't have to have read other books about Beechwood Harbor, but it sure makes it better if you have. Also, I listened to the audiobook and Amanda Ronconi did a wonderful job as usual with Garrett's books.

I want to thank Tantor Audio and NetGalley for an ARC audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This was a fabulously narrated and imaginative story! I loved the narrator’s expressions and voice quality and the way she accented and enhanced the storyline! This narrator had the perfect voice for this cozy, well written paranormal mystery! The story itself was fun! I laughed outloud at the surprising paranormal experiences the FMC lived through! The descriptions made me feel like I was there rooting for the FMC! The author’s narrative was so well written that I could feel what the FMC felt. The mystery was interesting and intense and I just wanted to go visit my friend, the FMC!!

Witches in the Kitchen by Danielle Garret
FIVE HUGE STARS

OMG I loved this book! It's so light and while there is mystery it wasn't stressful at all. I cannot believe that I have to wait for book 2! I need to set an alarm or something because if I don't continue this series as it releases I'll cry.

Blair has magic only she doesn't know that until she witnesses a horrible crime one night and POOF into a cat she goes. Thankfully there are other magic people who are there to help her. Agent Swan (love interest) and then there are Holly and Adam who run the magical Inn. Everyone is so nice. I just found out this is a spin off series in the same world as several others. Goodbye to my paycheck!

Amanda Ronconi did an amazing job narrating this one! Thank you to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for this opportunity.

Title: Witches in the Kitchen
Written by Danielle Garrett
Narrated by Amanda Ronconi

I received an ARC (advanced reader copy) of this audiobook through Netgalley.

I LOVED this audiobook. I am already a huge fan of Danielle Garrett and Amanda Ronconi!

This book is a part of a new series that picks up where the other Beechwood Manor books left off - woohoo! When the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mysteries series ended… I was bereft.

If you’re new to these books…
Holly is a potions witch with a thriving apothecary inside of the Seattle Haven (think portal dimension or diagon alley or Narnia). Holly, her husband Adam, and their two children run the Beechwood Manor/Inn. Living with them is a floating skull (kind of like Dresden Files Bob), an ex fairy godmother, and Harmony, co-owner of the apothecary.

The manor is located in a “muggle” town called Beechwood Harbor. It’s your typical quaint small town full of charm and good people.

This particular series is told from the point of view of Blair, a 30-something woman living a less than stellar lifestyle with a wholly unfulfilling job to boot.

Blair witnesses a crime and tumbles down the rabbit hole learning about the supernatural world. Blair ends up staying in Beechwood Manor and another mystery unfolds.

I highly recommend this book! And, if you have the time - I highly recommend the other Beechwood books - they are sooooo good!!!

Quick Summary: A magical adventure

My Review: Witches in the Kitchen (Magical Inn Paranormal Mysteries, #1) by Danielle Garrett was a fantastic start to what promises to be a hit series!

About the Story: After witnessing a strange and troubling murder, a young woman with no ties and a dead-end job suddenly finds herself taken into custody by the Supernatural Protection Agency (SPA). She is temporarily placed in a safe house in Beechwood Harbor, where she meets a host of special beings. While lying low and working alongside her appointed SPA agents, she connects with several people who soon become instrumental to her as she seeks to unravel the mystery of what is happening to her.

My Final Say: I'm all in on this one. Friends, villains, a possible love interest, and special powers...oh my! Readers who enjoy paranormal adventures with a touch of mystery will really like this story.

Setting the Scene: Thirty-two year old Blair lives in Tacoma, WA, with no family, no close friends, and a dead-end job. For her, magic and magical monsters don't exist outside the pages of books and movies, but that is about to change when she wanders out on her apartment balcony during a night of insomnia and witnesses a murder, by a vampire? But wait! There's more. When the rogue vampire comes looking for her and catches her, she suddenly finds herself in the body of a cat. Or maybe her body is now a cat's body? She has no idea, and the next thing she knows, the SPA (Supernatural Protection Agency) has her in protective custody in a somewhat spooky inn in Beechwood Harbor where more secrets are revealed, like magic, witches, shape shifters, and other creatures are real. This is now Blair's reality, at least until the rogue vampire is captured.

What I Thought: What a delight to be back in Beechwood Harbor with many of the beloved characters and places from the Beechwood Harbor Magic series, and now with new characters and perspectives and adventures. I love Blair and how she rolled with the punches. There wasn't a lot of wasted time with disbelief or even self-pity. She accepted her new reality, even if she did not fully understand it, and that attitude seemed to govern her reaction to other things in her new world, as well. It will be interesting to find out more about Blair's past, as she does, and I cannot wait to spend more time with her, not to mention Holly's and Adam's two kids who are bound to add some mischievous humor to the mix. If you enjoy your mystery mixed with magic, a splash of romance, and a dollop of humor, this book is for you.

If you have not read the Beechwood Harbor Magic series, I recommend that you do, but it is not necessary to have done so in order to enjoy this series. There are characters and references that will mean more if you are familiar with the preceding series, but Blair has her own story to tell and adventures to experience.

As always, Amanda Ronconi did an excellent job voicing the characters and bringing them to life.

Thank you NetGalley and Tantor Audio for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

This was a fun and cheesey magical story. The main character was a perfect mixture of humorous and relatable. The plot had a mixture of romance, mystery, and fantasy and it was a perfect quick read.

I think when I requested this book I expected a standalone paranormal romance but what I got was a cutesy, cozy mystery with a twist of the paranormal. Unexpected but fun

I have listened to all the books Danielle Garrett has written and have been eagerly awaiting the audio of this one. I was approved late this morning and am already done, if that tells you how much I enjoyed it! Danielle’s writing is the very best like always and Amanda Ronconi becomes the characters as she narrates. I love that this is a new series based in the same realm as the Beechwood Harbor series. I cannot wait for the next one!
