Thank you, Netgalley, for providing me with an advance copy of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed my reading experience, despite being a guy. The author's perspective through Riley was incredibly well-executed and relatable. Unlike many slasher teen horror books that prioritize horror over character development, this book excels at creating well-rounded and understood characters.

Here are the aspects that worked well for me:

- The depth of the characters and their motivations.
- The exploration of friendship dynamics, particularly among the girls.
- The captivating setting and the intricate relationship drama among the couples.
- Riley's character, which was easy to connect with and root for.

However, there were a couple of elements that I felt didn't work as effectively:

- Towards the end, the author could have delved into darker territory, as things seemed to wrap up a bit too quickly.
- I found that a sense of loss was lacking. (SPOILERS: Riley didn't seem to care much about the other girls, but if she had experienced the loss of Seb, it would have had a greater impact, in my opinion).

Overall, this book was an easy and engrossing read, difficult to put down. It captures the essence of a well-crafted slasher horror movie.

I absolutely loved this book and stayed up all night to finish it because I could not put it down. The characters were great. It was definitely more gory than I anticipated but it worked really well in the case of this story and the ending twist was wild! I'm really hoping for a sequel to this one and see where the Palm Key Three end up.

Thank you Netgalley for providing me a copy.

I wasn't expecting Mean Girls or the Slasher genre at all - but here we are!

The Mean Girls part : If you have Friends like these, who needs enemies?? Honestly they were all absolutely horrible - sometimes I thought " Oh she is nice! " and a couple of parts later " Forget it - horrible as the others " - so yeah having had my fair share of horrible friends too and now being wiser and older I couldn't really get into Rileys shoes at all. Maybe if I read that book at 20 years it would have been different.

For the Slasher Part : Hell yeah! Gruesome, twisty and bloody! And the end is great!

Overall a Fun read!

Summer Rental tells the story of a group of recent graduates who rent a house on remote Palm Key Island to have one last party before college. Even though they are a seemingly close group of friends, everyone is hiding something from one another. When a hurricane hits, they are cut off from the rest of civilization and trapped inside the house. This is only the beginning of their problems however, as they soon find one of their group has been murdered. As the body count rises, everyone is forced to confront their secrets.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The premise is very intriguing and overall the plot moves forward at a nice pace. There are a lot of 'jump scare' moments that I enjoyed and added to the thriller aspect of the novel. I did not see the twist towards the end coming until it was just about to happen, which I appreciated as the reader. The language that the author used however, drove me a little crazy. Making the characters very clear that they were teenagers was way overdone - the slang she included detracted from the story. I also did not appreciate the toxic friendships that were portrayed in the narrative. I understand why the author wanted to show this, but it is not a great example for teen readers to see characters acting this way toward one another. I think she could have gotten her point across without them being quite so awful to one another, even if many of them were entitled.

If that cover doesn’t capture your eye then the first page will. Wow! What a ride. From the first chapter the book leaves you hanging on every word, wanting more. You will not want to put it down. It keeps you guessing till the last minute. The twist & turns leaves the reader craving more! This is a must for your TBR list.

Okay this was a GOOD read. Normally I can figure out who the killer is in books pretty early on, but nope not this one! Great twists and turns, suspense and drama! Definitely a good YA thriller also.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

Riley and her friends head to a beach house for the 4th July weekend. Riley is relatively new to the friendship group and coincidently the 4th July is the anniversary of a former member of the groups death. A group of boys from school also head south and the plan is to party. Then one of the group goes missing and a predicted hurricane moves closer. Now everyone is stranded in the house and a killer strikes.

This was a great read. I didn’t feel the need to concentrate hugely on the plot and could just enjoy. The rich kid characters were spoilt and nasty, quite unpleasant and Riley quite pathetic with her need to please-very well written characters. The suspense towards the end was great and I didn’t figure out the whodunnit.

Well worth a read.

Can we say PLOT TWISTS!! I was hooked the first few pages and devoured this book in one sitting.

Mean Girls meets SCREAM. Riley goes to a remote island with her friends as a last hoorah before they all go their separate ways before college. A couple of their group disappears and while waiting for their return, they get stuck in the hurricane that hits land and they are renting a haunted house.

I was constantly changing who I thought was the killer. GO. BUY. THIS. BOOK. NOW!!!! You will not be disappointed. Job well done!

Readable and pretty good, but the characters fell rather flat for me. Still, I can recommend this to horror/thriller fans. The concept is just fantastic!

Arc Review
Riley goes to a remote island with a group of mean girls that are supposed to be her friends. Who don't treat her like a friend would treat a friend. A hurricane hits the island cutting them all off from civilization.
One by one each of Riley's friends are stalked and unalived leading to each individual's secrets being revealed.

This book is definitely mean girls and scream. When I read this book I felt as I was watching a movie. For me I found the book a slow burn till around nearly half way.
Gonna rate this book a 4 as I flew through the rest of the book as I wanted to find out what happened.
At certain points of the book the description the author gave on the spooky figure in the yellow coat made me have goosebumps..
First time reading a book from this author but would be willing to read another book in the future.
Thank you for the opportunity for me to read this book.

I LOVE THIS BOOk
Riley and her friends are spending their graduation celebration week on Palm Key Islands. The plans have been made and a potential incoming hurricane is not going to stop them! Add in lots of secrets, scary weather and plenty of past lies that will haunt them and you have a super creepy and fun vacation-gone-wrong story. I will definitely buy more by Rektok Ross!

Mystery, Thriller, Horror it has it all and then some.

A group of teens go to a small Island in Florida for the 4th of July. They rent a house because one of them has no money although no one else knows that. This house has its own mystery to it that none of them know and it is a catalyst of the events that are to come.

A hurricane is on its way and the teens don’t want to leave without two of their missing friends and little do they know that decision will change their lives forever.

The twists and turns in this book were very good and definitely kept my reading!

A wonderful mix of mystery, slasher, teenage relationships and fitting in. A world of money and status leads to horrific outcomes. A short read but it packed a punch. An ideal book to take on holiday and read in the sun.

Wow! I knew when I saw this book that it would be brilliant! I devoured Ski Weekend in one sitting, so I’ve been anxiously awaiting be able to delve into her second novel! Beautiful rendering of how toxic female relationships are under the surface of all that glitters……amazing well developed characters, steady flow, and an empowering ending for sure! I read this one also in one sitting, as I couldn’t put it down once I started! Cannot wait for what she puts out next!!! Literally the perfect summer read!

Thank you Ic13 Books and Netgalley for this eARC, these opinions are my own. Riley March and her friends take one last trip before going their separate ways for college. Riley’s friends are the mean girls at school so friends is a loose term. Before she came to the school one of their old friends, Jordyn, passed away. Now it’s the one year anniversary but no one talks about her. Riley’s curious but has never asked. With a storm coming in and friends disappearing will they survive the weekend? And what happens when someone turns up dead? This was fast paced, I finished it in a day! I put together the why pretty early on but I went back and forth on the who! It was fun getting to the twisty ending! Also provides a good look at bullying and how that can sometimes come from the people closest to you! Also a good look at what real friendship is! I think the only thing for me is that a lot of the mystery took place at the end and I would have liked to see it more throughout! But I still enjoyed getting there! If you like mysteries I recommend this one! Can’t wait to read it again!

Summer Rental is a great beach read for the summer, think Mean Girls meets Scream in a subtropical murder house. Fast paced with lots of twists and turns, it will keep the reader guessing as things escalate. As a former Miami girlie myself I really enjoyed the Palm Key setting. The looming hurricane was really ominous, spooky, and fun and upped the tension. For people that have read Ski Weekend, another book by this author, keep your eyes peeled for a little easter egg as well. This book is best enjoyed with a cocktail on a stormy day in paradise.

Thank you to NetGalley and Ic13 Books for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Can you spell T W I S T Y? SUMMER RENTAL certainly can, and will deliver one after another revelatory punch till readers are reeling, dizzy, and peeking over their shoulders to see what's causing that frisson of "Somebody's watching!" An in-depth exposure at "how-the-wealthy-YA-live" (it's not complimentary), Narcissism, and what humans will do in their pursuit of one-upmanship (it's not pretty). What is pretty is how compelling is this delightful (yet gory) YA psychological Thriller/mystery/budding romance/millenial technology-savvy. A one-sitting read; I couldn't turn away. I had to discover what was next!
