Cute book. Looked Instering and kept me busy and pulled into. Not sure who I'd recommend this to. Five star book. Highly recommend it though.
Paper and Tape Crafts by Jennifer Perkins
This book was full of fun crafts for people of all ages! From puppets to planes, snakes to paper chains, mini flags to full miniature villages, this book had it all! I really enjoyed the planetary paper chain and the paper cacti in little pots. I also really liked that Perkins gave suggestions for alternative materials for each craft in case you didn’t have all the supplies at home.
I would like to thank Netgalley, Jennifer Perkins, and Castillo Media for allowing me to read this advanced copy of Paper and Tape Crafts! I highly recommend it for all ages!
We are very big on crafting here and I was excited to get some new craft ideas.
Paper and Tape Crafts opens with an introduction and notes on safety which led me to think the book is aimed at the children working on the crafts alone. A list of supplies is a handy addition and I liked that many of the items can be found in a well stocked craft box.
There are also notes at the end of each activity to challenge you to take the craft further and to expand on what you have already made.
I've been involved in childcare and Playgroups for many years so most of the crafts were ones I had already made many times with preschoolers. I found of the 28 crafts detailed there were only 16 I found appealing.
I think this would be a handy book if you are new to crafting with recyclables however for me there was nothing particularly new or innovative.
Recommended age 5 - 10 years
If you were an elementary student in the 90s you have done all of these crafts. Super simple but fun ideas if you need something new to try.
Perfect ideas to help get the kiddos away from the screen and crafting! None of the ideas are super complicated or use a ton of supplies! Most kids can do the activities with minimal adult assistance.
Perfect gift for kids before a school break!
My kids LOVE these simple craft invitations -- browsing the book gave my younger daughter inspiration that kept her busy all weekend long. :)
I loved this book as the projects are well explained, easy to follow and there's pictures.
Very useful if you have children.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Paper and Tape Crafts is a friendly, accessible tutorial and craft guide aimed at middle grade readers (and their facilitators/teachers/adults). Released 7th March 2023 by Callisto, it's 130 pages and is available in paperback and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers this book is currently included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free.
Resource people, childminders, parents, and educators are always on the lookout for activity books which are fun and engaging for the small people in their lives. This is a well written and fun book of 28 crafts activities aimed at middle school(ish) kids. Many of them would be usable in a classroom or library setting. I especially loved the washi tape map pins - simple but very useful.
Each tutorial includes a picture of the finished project, a bullet list of supplies needed, instructions for crafting, and many (many!) process photos. Photography is clear and in color. Instructions are written in understandable easy to follow language.
Four stars. This would be great for public or school library acquisition, home use, activity/scouting groups, maker's spaces and studios, and similar.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
This is such a fantastic arts and crafts book for children! The projects are easy to follow, have helpful photographs, clear step by step instructions, and don’t require any specialist equipment - they all use the bits and bobs we have readily available at home!
Would definitely recommend.
Thank you to Callisto Media and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review.
This book is great! I work in a daycare and we are always trying to find fun and easy crafts to do with the kids that won’t cost a ton of money or make us adults loose our minds, Ian’s the crafts in this book are perfect! Summer break starts tomorrow, and I can’t wait to start doing these crafts with the kids! Thank you for providing lots of summer fun!
So many kids love to create. This book gives great ideas on things they can create. The book is filled with pictures to help guide younger students. Hopefully having so many pictures wont stifle creativity.
This is a fine craft book for kids. It honestly felt kind of generic to me and the photos all felt like stock photos but there were lots of them. They all looked like they’d been made by adults and perhaps that’s part of it, but they also just lacked personality or personalization I guess. My youngest and I do lots of crafts and I was hoping for some inspiration but I didn’t really feel inspired by any of these. It’s marketed for kids 8-12 and she’s 11 but maybe younger kids would get more out of it. Crafts include hanging a map and making flag push pins to mark where you have been and where you want to go, bookmarks, a picture frame, a paper snake, a cardboard plane and paper houses.
I read a digital review copy of this book via NetGalley.
I can definitely see my library using this book as a book club or event for the library. I definitely will be trying these crafts out at home.
Review to come May 19th on blog/goodreads.
I received this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
I am a big fan of crafts and all that so when I saw this book on Netgalley and checked out a preview on Amazon... I had to request it! So happy I can read it because I was into finding some new crafts to do~
Well, I think I will first need to do some shopping, haha, I do have a lot of things at home, but there were a few things I missed. Like paper bags or wax paper! At least I got plenty of washi tape. So this review will mostly just be me reading this one and one day I want to do some crafts, because there are some really fun ones. I just don't really have a craft store easily nearby, and while my bookstore has some stationery/craft stuff, it is not much. Plus, at the moment of writing this one May 11th, I am also sick. So yeah. But I will be doing them! Someday!
In this delightful and fun book we get many many crafts! From making flags to pin on a board with a map (so you can show where you have been and where you want to go) to a fun memory game to masks and mountains to much more. It was just a delight to go through this book and see all sorts of fun creative projects that were often very colourful and made me smile. Just what I needed! Some are super simple, some require a bit more effort. I love the variety.
The instructions are very clear with plenty of information in words, but also clear photographs to show you what to do! I am always happy when craft books keep it simple but also fun. I have read some books that felt like I was deciphering Chinese or something. 😂 I also love that we got some bonus extras at the end with extra tips on what to do to make it better or change it up just a bit more. You also get tips if you don't have x material so that made me happy!
All in all, highly recommended if you are looking for some fun craft projects to fill your afternoon/day with!
