This is a beautiful book that goes in depth on how to make polymer clay earrings. I will likely buy a physical copy to use for my artistic daughter that enjoys polymer clay. Thank you so much to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this e-ARC.

This book begins with some good information about the brands of clay and earring hardware, including a detailed table about types of metal for earring hardware (with columns including metal type, affordability, hypoallergenic rating, and notes on quality). There is also detailed information about tools that are recommended to use and ways to get around using those tools if you’re just starting out and don’t want to spend much money. A list of the only clays required to make projects in this book is included, which was very helpful as it’s a relatively small list and will keep you from having to buy much clay. There’s also a cool chart that showed how to make the exact colors used in the book, which was very well set up (I love a good chart and table). This just touches on information and tips that the author provides – it’s a very thorough and informative resource! There are also a couple pages of templates at the back of the book that was an excellent bonus, on top of an expansive list of online resources relating to polymer clay.

There are 20 projects included in this book. You get to learn and practice techniques in some of the earlier projects that are expanded upon in later projects, and I liked how this is set up. The projects are very creative, incorporating other decorative items to make fascinating pieces of jewelry. Each project started with a list of necessary tools with a large picture of the finished project on the opposing page. Under the title of the project was a note of which technique would be utilized in the project. My favorite projects were the basket weave technique and the rose quartz look, which was gorgeous.

This is a highly recommended read for those wanting to start making cool earrings or pendants with polymer clay, or those looking to up their polymer clay game. I learned much from this resource, and the author’s knowledge really shone through. Many thanks to NetGalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for allowing me to read this work. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Wow. This is the most comprehensive, well detailed, well-explained polymer clay book I’ve ever read through (and let me tell you, I have read through SO many thanks to my hyper-focusing and ADHD 😆!) Weiss makes polymer clay seem attainable and gives the reader such a confidence to begin their journey. From one mega crafter to another, you need this book in your arsenal! 📚

I just started my polymer clay earring journey. So, when I found this book, I was thrilled. This book answered all of the questions that I couldn't get answered watching YouTube videos. It thoroughly reviews techniques and tools to get a more polished product. From reading this book alone, my earrings look less crafty and more professional! I highly recommend Liat Weiss's MAKING POLYMER CLAY EARRINGS to anyone trying to bring their dream earrings to life.

Making Polymer Clay Earrings is a useful, beginner friendly tutorial guide for polymer clay written and curated by Liat Weiss. Released 21st June 2023 by Fox Chapel, it's 144 pages and is available in paperback and ebook formats.

Virtually everyone has used polymer clay at some point. It's available at crafts and big-box retailers, by mail order, and I've even seen it at some larger grocery stores. The disconnect comes when you get your little packages of plastic home and try to make something. Even with the best intentions, none of my creations bore the slightest resemblance to the pictures I had up in my head. I needed a step-by-step tutorial, and this is a good one. The book is full of cute exuberant and colorful projects and well written tutorials to guide readers through projects to finished items (which actually look like the things they're meant to be).

I'm definitely a process based learner, so this book was perfect. The photographs are crisp and clear, the steps are very well delineated, and the projects are appealing, stylish, and artistic (see cover). There are a wide variety of subject tutorials, and all the basic-intermediate techniques are included such as marbling, blending, millefiori (in simple canes), 3D shapes, etc.

This would make an amazing activity guide for scouts, church or library maker's groups, or classroom art instruction. I'm a middle aged adult and I am absolutely going to use the tutorials here to make myself some charms for my embroidery scissors and needle minders. This is a wonderfully inspiring book which had my fingers itching to get started!

The full size templates are included as well as an abbreviated resource/links list with worldwide suppliers.

Four and a half stars.

First of all, I have only worked with air dry clay til now and I was curious to see what this book was about. I have to say it looks complete !! From all the tools to be used, to how to mix colours, to baking, to shaping. It makes me want to dive in as it looks so easy from all the pictures. And some of these earrings had me drooling, they are so cute.
