Thank you to Author Roberta Kagan and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC to read and review. All opinions shared here are my own.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of book 1, read book 2 independantly and then received an ARC of book 3. I've been eagerly awaiting the conclusion of the series and it was every bit as consuming and heart breaking as I imagined.
The blood sisters Anna, Bernie, Elica & Dagna are each given an ending within the story that made sense for those who lived through WWII. What they endured was horrific, and the world they're left in at the conclusion of the War was evident in the writing. I appreciated the Author's blunt portrayal of many of the horrors they experienced and how they chose to live their lives.
I love historical fiction, particularly books that cover WWII, and this series was so well written. I highly recommend reading!
The Aftermath of War
The trials of those surviving the war show through in this third book of the series. We follow those girls through the ending of the war and the aftermath.
Anna finds happiness in a Gypsy camp but will she be able to hide form Alf the Nazi infatuated with her. Will Anna ever find her forever.
Elica lives with her mother and hides because of her scar. She cannot face the world and when she finds out her son Theo is still alive she dares not look for him that he might think she is a monster. Will she ever see her son again?
What happened to Bernie and Dagna, how were they affected by the war, and did they survive or did they lose their lives to this horrible war.
This book tell the stories of the girls and how they deal with their grief and their war scars. Will they find each other or will they be separated forever?
A book of dealing with consequences, forgiveness, and the aftermath of one of the worst times in history.
I enjoyed reading this book, it was a good ending for the series and although bittersweet it was a good ending. I would recommend this book.
Thanks to Roberta Kagan for writing a great ending to the series, to The Book Whisperer for publishing it, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy to read and review. All words in the review are my own.
When Forever Ends (Blood Sisters, #3) by Roberta Kagan was the third and final book in this compelling trilogy. The story resumed and ultimately revealed the fates of each of the blood sisters, Anna, Bernie, Elica and even Dagna. They all in their own way were made to suffer at the hands of the Nazis as World War II continued to rage and affect their lives. In When Forever Ends, Roberta Kagan, was able to depict some of the atrocities that occurred in both Auschwitz and Ravensbruck. She also captured the essence of Italy under Mussolini’s reign and then after as the Nazis occupied Italy.
When Anna, Bernie, Elica and Dagna were young girls, they made a pact with each other to always remain friends forever. Each girl took an oath by blood to always remain friends. Would a selfish and desperate act of betrayal be enough to sever that promise that was made so very long ago? There were things that were confessed to that could never be undone. With that confession, feelings of guilt and shame lived on relentlessly in the heart of the betrayer. When Forever Ends explored the themes of survival, hope, betrayal, trust, love, friendship, repentance and acceptance. I was sorry for this trilogy to end but I was glad it ended in Israel in the late 1950’s. A good sense of closure was provided. I recommend this trilogy if you enjoy historical fiction novels that take place during World War II and focuses on a friendship that evolved over many years. Publication is set for June 7, 2023.
Thank you to Roberta Kagan Publishing for allowing me to read this ARC of When Forever Ends through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I wasn't aware until after I was part way through this book that it was Book 3 of a series so it obviously can be read as a stand-alone story. However, now that I have read Book 3 and am invested in the characters, I want to go back and read the first 2 books to get more time with these people. There are some hard parts to read as you find with any WWII books that describe the unspeakable things the Nazis did to the Jews and other people who they felt were inferior. But there was also a lot of love and hope that survives this inhumane treatment. I would definitely recommend this book.
When Forever Never Ends by Rober
t Kagan is book three of the blood sisters. I (unfortunately) did not read the first two books, so maybe I was a little lost, but not too much. The author did a good job of giving details. When Forever Ends by Roberta Kagan, continues the story of Anna, from a wealthy Jewish family, Elise, the maid’s daughter, Bernie, the tomboy, and Dagna, the bully. Dagna is at Ravensbruck and is mistreating Jews horribly and loving it. The brutality of the camp shocked me, and I have read a lotof WWII books. She becomes a monster.Mateo and Aria adopt a child that belongs to Erica. However, Kagan does a good job of ending the stories of the blood sisters. I now need to go back and read book one and two.
I would like to thank The Book Whisperer, NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read this complimentary copy for an honest review. Book three is due our June 7 so be sure to grab it for a satisfying end to the story.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this exceptional book
its the last one in the series and boy does it has all the answers and so much more and not wanting to give to much away but this book is a rollercoaster of emotions , the good the bad and the ugly
it answers all the questions about the 4 blood sisters and what happened to them all, its such a powerful storyline
cant wait to see what else this author does...
Another great book by Roberta Kagan. The conclusion to the Blood Sisters Series this is a fitting ending to a great series.
The stories of Anna, Bernie, Elica, and Dagna have now come to an end and this book really sums up their friendships, loves, lives and losses. It really does bring the whole series to a conclusion but I did find it a bit repetitive as it did go over some of the past stories (which is good I suppose for those who haven't read the other books).
With the war over this book really brings to light the aftereffects and the fact that life went on but certainly not as it was before. It really brings to life what these went went through and what they continue to endure.
Thank you Netgalley and The Book Whisperer for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
The 3rd installment of The Blood sisters trilogy is tragic but an apt ending to the WWII epic story. I did not read the first book, but did receive an EARC of the 2nd, so when I was offered an ARC of the final story, I jumped at the chance to see the story wrapped up.
The story begins as the previous book ends, with the Nazi Ulf obsessing over Anna, now living with the Gypsies in the forest. Anna's story has a satisfying ending, which I was quite worried about. From my point of view, each character got the ending they deserved.
There is quite a long passage at Ravensbruck concentration camp that was quite harrowing, and truthfully I had to skim. I have read several other books that took place there, so I was prepared, but still a difficult read.
If you have read book 1 and 2, you must read book 3.
Thanks to The book whisperer and Netgalley for the opportunity to write an honest review.
Final book in this trilogy best to have read the other two for a full background. All loose ends are tied up as we follow the lives of the girls/women.
I meet Anna, Bernie, Elica and Dagna in Roberta Kagan’s two previous books. So it was with great anticipation that by reading When Forever Ends by Ms. Kagan, I would finally learn the end of their journeys. The novel tied up the different lives and losses each of the childhood friends endured. Anna suffers many losses but finally finds the life she deserves. Bernie saves her friend’s child and leaves instructions as to where the child can be found. Elica losses her child, her friends and the life she hoped to lead. And Dagna sees her jealousy and envy become the ruin of her. While some of the endings for the friends were not what I had hoped for, the development of their characters and their coming to terms with their situations, whether good or bad, show their endurance in handling what life sent them. Good book.
When Forever Ends by Roberta Kagan
What a wonderful conclusion to Roberta Kagans new serious The Blood Sisters.
This book picks up from where book two ended half way thru WWII. We find out what became of Anna, Bernie, Elica and Dagna and if they survive the war. I love that this book ends in 1958 so we learn what happens some years after the war ended.
I enjoyed this book very much and I cannot wait for Roberta’s next serious due to come out later in the year.
I would like to thank Net Galley and The Book Whisperer for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
This is the last book in the Blood Sisters trilogy. It lets you know what happens to Dagna, Anna, Bernie, and Epic a & her son, Theo. I love Roberta's books and this one did not fail. I try not to put spoilers in my reviews. It seems like there's a few chapters for each character, but the ending does a good job of tying up loose ends (Ulf).
I have been obsessed with the Blood Sisters series since book one. Each book has brought many tears but also some satisfaction. When Forever Ends had me in tears and kept me hooked until the final page.. The story takes the reader through the end of the war and many years beyond.
The Nazis were on clean up duty, trying to hide what they had done. The horrors detailed will not be forgotten by me. The author's story left me reeling in anger over the injustice. She reminded me of the great cruelties that occurred at the hands of the Nazis, giving more detail than I had known. My heart aches for all of those that continue to suffer today. The author brought the story to life in a way that it shows the importance that we must not forget, and we need to make sure it is never repeated.
I appreciate how the author gave some characters exactly what they deserved. Reading how some of the most horrible people in the story finally paid for what the did brought a little satisfaction. I was a little saddened that Anna and Elica did not find out what happened to Dagna. They deserved a little peace to lighten their nightmares.
The author reminds the reader that the war ended but the after affects continue to this day. Anna, my favorite character, survived the war. She suffered the loss of her family and later her fiancee. She escaped a horrible life under Ulf, a Nazi obsessed with her. But Anna continued to fight an invisible enemy as she searched for those she loved visiting camp after camp, only discovering more horrors.
Books like When Forever Ends are important to read. They teach us so much more than any textbook. It allows the reader to question what happened during the war and search for answers. I can only hope that the more we read and understand, then the more we will stand up for those in need of our help.
The third instalment in the Blood Sisters Trilogy was fantastic. The author did a great job completing each of the girls stories. Their endings however aren’t without heartbreak, closure and sadness. It was so good I really enjoyed this trilogy and found the writing improved with each novel. The covers selected for each book were also a great fit as well.
The final book of this trilogy wraps up the loose ends in which the second book abruptly ended.
This would have been a five star book, but I think it can't stand alone without the previous two books giving a full background story. I read the first two books, and I think the depth of this novel would be lost on those choosing to read it independently. I would prefer a super long novel instead of a trilogy..
I did look forward to learning the path each character will follow, and was glad to see the storylines were pretty much tidied up.
I received a copy of this book by NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Wow!! This book was incredible! I read it now knowing it was the 3rd book in the series! I’m reading 1 & 2 soon! I was so invested in these girls! Wow! Highly highly recommend!
Just finished this book! It was so good. Honestly I’m sad the story is finished. The characters were so well developed you felt like you knew them. Another great series by Roberta Kagan that makes you feel invested! Definitely one not to miss!
The last book in the trilogy and it wrapped up the whole story as only this author can. A horrendous outcome to this well written tragedy in WWII. Friends who thought their friendships would never end. Betrayal,
repentance. and forgiveness. Superb writing!
Roberta Kagan finishes the third book in the series entitled “The Pact” about 4 eight year old girls in Vienna, Austria who make a pact to be sisters and friends forever. Then the war hits. She meticulously follows each girl’s life and what they go through . Her research about the Romany and how they were treated during Hitler’s regime was extremely interesting and informative. Maybe the lesson learned is good comes to good and evil comes to evil. The Forever Pact ends and unfortunately not well for everyone.
When Forever Ends is the final instalment of the Blood Sisters series. It continued the story of Anna, Bernie, Elica, and Dagna as we read their sad story of friendship, love, betrayal and loss. Sadly, it wasn’t my favourite, I much preferred the first two as I found this to be a bit repetitive. However, it did wrap up the story of the four blood sisters with the perfect ending.
I would like to thank The Book Whisperer, NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read this complimentary copy for an honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
