This is such a cute cozy fantasy romance. I am obsessed with the characters. I thought it couldn’t top the first book but it did! I will recommend this to all my friends!

Emily Wilde has quickly become one of my favorite characters in fantasy! Her prickly, scholarly demeanor has become charming as she warms up to relationships with others in the second book of the series. While still told with an academic tilt, this book is a bit more action forward from the start, and it continues throughout the book, all while still bringing in the coziness and some of the domesticity that happens in the first. Her growing relationship with Wendell doesn’t seem quite as abrupt or out of the blue here, but I think it is because she is coming around to the idea herself. Overall, I loved this second story and cannot wait to get my hands on the third!

I would recommend this book to anyone who love cozy-adjacent fantasy, romantic plot lines in fantasy, and almost-dark academia.

Thanks to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine | Del Rey and NetGalley for access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What a fun book!
I really enjoyed Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands. After getting used to the style from the first book, I knew what to expect a bit more than the first time. I had never read a book quite like that one before. The small bits about Shadow, Emily’s dog, made me feel like snuggling my own dog. I liked how they still went on a quest-like journey but still so different from the first novel.
The pacing was great, and I loved the extra romance because it’s definitely my genre of choice.
I can’t wait to read Fawcett’s next one.
Thank you so much to Del Rey Books for the ARC to this exciting and cozy novel.

Emily Wilde has become my new favorite series, my new favorite character, my new favorite book, etc etc etc. Getting this book changed my life. Reading this book changed my life. It lived up to the first one as much as I could have hoped, and I cannot wait for the next. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

This was good story. Not great, but good. I struggled a bit and I know this is a classic case of, “it’s not you, it’s me,” since everyone I know that read it, loved it.

Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands is a great continuation of Emily Wilde's story. In this installment, Bambleby's mother has sent assassins to kill her son because she has heard of his proposal to Emily. This has put Emily's career in danger yet again, and to resolve the problem, they head off to the Austrian Alps with the head of the department and Emily's niece. It's an entertaining and colorful tale about fairies and everything surrounding the folklore.

I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.

A lovely sequel to the first book, Heather Fawcett does it again. As per usual, you can expecting a simultaneously charming yet horrifying atmosphere, to die for interactions between the beloved characters, and the perfect amount of whimsy. However I do think I still love the first book more and that this suffers from the same or maybe even more inconsistent pacing as the first book.

I ended up listening to the audiobook on this one. I adored the first book; this second outing wasn't quite as charming for me, I'm not sure what didn't work, maybe it was the pacing. I am looking forward to the next book to see where the story and characters go from here.

The best things from the first book unfortunately didn’t carry over to its sequel. I think the doubling down on the journaling aspect, the lack of development (and deepening self absorption) of the main characters, and overall it felt choppy and strange. The coziness, sense of wonder, and charm were still there but they were buried by the aforementioned rocks. I would consider continuing the series, though, and hope the author takes the feedback of this book and Emily wins us all back!

A beautiful expressive tale of fantasy. I would love this better as an audio book for my personal taste but an amazing book

Emily Wilde 2 a charming sequel full of magic, adventure, and witty banter. Emily, the brilliant and somewhat prickly professor of faerie folklore, teams up again with Wendell Bambleby, the exiled faerie king, as they race to uncover a dangerous secret in the Austrian Alps. As assassins and faerie mysteries close in, Emily must navigate both magical threats and her complicated feelings for Wendell.

This book mixes humor, romance, and enchanting world-building in the best way. If you loved the first book, this one’s a perfect follow-up—fun, heartwarming, and packed with faerie intrigue.

Truly love this series! I do feel that I read this at a time when it wasn't the mood I was in, so I know I missed some things and didn't enjoy it as fully as I could have, but the world building continued to be rich and delightful, and I highly recommend this for cozy-adjacent reading!

I love these characters so much but i feel like this book suffered 2nd book syndrome. My love, wendell wasn't coherent enough in this one for real. He felt very pushed back in the story. I still love emily shes a girlboss, but idk this one just didnt have the same heart that made me love the first one so much. Still a really solid book writing wise, but emotionally it didnt really hit for me.

I still don’t know how I feel about cozy fantasy, but I truly enjoyed this sequel. I loved the progression of the story and characters from book one. This is such an easy world to fall into and Emily and Wendell have such great banter.

It also didn’t feel like a repeat of the first book, even though it picks up where the last book left off. It was able to progress and call back without feeling like a part II. It really held its own as a sequel, which I appreciate. My only feedback is that the plot got a bit repetitive and slow halfway through but I felt the ending really made up for it. I can’t wait to see where these characters go next!

Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands is a delightful romp and follow-up to the first book in the series. I didn't love the setting as much, but that was more personal opinion than an actual critique. Heather Fawcett does an incredible job writing about a world I love to return to over and over again. I personally have a hard time getting into fantasy sometimes, but I think this series is great for both fans of the genre and folks like me who struggle with it.

I really enjoyed going back to this world and seeing what Emily and Wendell were up to now. I loved the setting and seeing more magical creatures. I also appreciated the addition of some new characters. The only downside for me was that this book felt slow at times and even though it was less than 400 pages it felt like a lot could be cut. I do appreciate the way this story is told (as if from Emily’s research notes) and still feel like it’s a unique story.

As a Holly Black fan, I felt like this was a great return to fae folkloric fantasy that dabbles in both the fun, romantic, and sensuous side to these stories as well as the sinister. Though perhaps a bit surface level I think this series is perfect for a cozy afternoon read and I enjoyed the romance as well as the worldbuilding.
