Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

I was admittedly mildly miffed at the end of the first book when I realized it wasn't a standalone, but now I'm actually really happy it wasn't! I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel! Mostly because it was much more personal--it was still written as journal entries, but much less academic. I loved Ariadne and Professor Rose as new side characters, and Wendall and Emily were just too precious.

Does it make sense? No. But was it cozy and easy and fun? Absolutely.

A cozy fairy world! Who needs anything more. I absolutely was intrigued from the beginning and this was so fun! Highly recommend.

Oh, not loving this one made me so sad. I loved the energy of Wendell and Emily annoying and then falling for each other in book 1, but in this one he was out of it or sleeping for so much of the story that I felt like all the good stuff was missing. Bring on the sweetness and spice! Overall, it felt very meh.

I was excited to dive back into Emily's world and see what she would be up to next. I did find it tough to stay engaged during some parts, but overall this was a great sequel!

I absolutely loved everything about this book!! The new additions to the group, Ariadne and Rose, were something I didn’t see coming but it really helped the story move along and it added to the interest of the plot. Wendell is absolutely perfect and i loved how he was not one of those alpha male types that wanted to be in control of everything but instead had faith in Emily to know what she was doing and how to protect herself. The banter between these two was so good, I was giggling the entire time they would argue about something. Although the beginning of the book was a bit rough because there seemed to be a lot of info dumping although its the second book, it made the story and plot just that more enjoyable. This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2024 and it lived up to all the expectations I had for it.

This second installment of Emily Wilde was just as cozy, magical, and intriguing as the first! With a new setting, a new goal, and new characters it kept things fresh yet familiar.

I loved Emily's niece and, although it took some time for him to grow on me, I also grew to appreciate Rose. Both characters added to the story and to Emily's character growth. I was also thrilled to see a but if Poe the Brownie again and I wish he was real and could be my friend.

I was really enthralled with Emily's journey into the land of the fae, but I wish we'd had more of that. I understand why it was written the way it was, though. Hopefully in the next book we'll get more visits!

Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett is the follow-up novel to Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries. Written in the same diary format, Otherlands also maintains the same delightful combination of adventure, whimsy, and romance. Just like book one, this was a five-star read for me. I can’t wait to see how Emily Wilde’s next story unfolds

The Emily Wilde series is a whimsical, flirty piñata that rains twigs and leaves and magic on your head when you crack it open—that is to say, totally bewitching and entrancing?! Not only is the journal entry style of the writing clever, but her characters are literally 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵, yet flawed in an amusingly human way.

I feel like I've stumbled upon something written for 𝘮𝘦. Emily is educated, well-spoken, headstrong—but not obnoxiously so, and her suspiciously faerie colleague Wendell is everything dreamy about guys who exist in the minds of talented writers. Absent is the macho, all-knowing powerful alpha-stereotype dude; instead, a clever male character of wit was adoringly created, unique in the genre of fantasy, contemporarily speaking.

With a perfect balance between plot and character motiviation, better pacinf than the first book, in my opinion, and an interesting, fresh take on fae, I don't know how anyone wouldn't be enchanted by this series.

I was so excited to get an ARC of this book! I truly enjoyed book 1 and could not wait to get my hands on this. Emily and Wendell are so cute and I love their dynamic. I also love how this book was a little darker than book 1. So good!

DNF after half of the first chapter

Full disclosure I didn't read the first but this writing style is not for me. You can write a historical fiction book without being boring and flowery.

I didn’t think it was possible for me to enjoy Emily Wilde’s journey as deeply in the second book, but I was blown away upon entering this story. This book gave more of everything I enjoyed about the first book – more adventures, more Fae, more confusing oddities, more magic, and more love.

I’m such a fan of a journalistic writing style and this series takes it to an amazing new level as we follow Emily, Wendell and Shadow and several new characters on a journey to another village facing down varying Fae folk with guest appearances from our favorite – Poe.

I love this story and series so much and I can’t wait for it to continue!

Also, Wendell’s little quote below just took my whole soul away:
“In order to be surprised, I could not have known already that you are capable of anything.”

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Del Rey for the E-ARC of this book!

I found the first book in this series delightful and cozy. It was one of the best examples of this new low-stakes cozy fantasy genre that has hit the market. But this sequel didn't live up to the original Yes, Emily and Wendell are off on an adventure. Yes, one of them is in danger and they need to deal with the fae to solve the problem. But because it was so similar to the first book it felt formulaic and stale. It was cozy. It was well-written. There was nothing fundamentally wrong with it. I just think the sequel needed to bring a bit more punch to keep me interested.

I love a cranky protagonist and Emily is no different. This has become one of my favorite series. While I don't know if they count as cozies, Fawcett's world is like coming home., shaggy dog at your feet and handsome fae man making you tea.

I loved this so-much, I was desperate to read this and now desperately wanting more. Yet again Heather stole my heart with this book, I can’t say much without spoilers but if you loved the first you need to read this

So freaking good.

One thing that I loved about the first book was the research notes, and guess what? They are still there and still hilarious. Neither the first book nor the second book lost the sense of adventure or wonder with the inclusion of these footnotes. Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands is high on the list of books that I will enjoy for years and years to come.

Heather Fawcett, please keep going!

This book was even better than the first one! And the Banter between Emily and Wendell was such a treat! I can't recommend this book enough to anyone who adores magic, creatures, and a 20th century setting! Thank you for approving me for this book - my library has purchased it!

If you enjoy stories about the Fair Folk, then this would be a good book for you.
Emily Wilde has finished her Encyclopaedia of Faerie and is back to teaching. Her niece is now attending the college as well. And Wendell Bambleby is never far. He asked Emily to marry him and she hasn't answered yet. Meanwhile, he's continuing to masquerade as a human and teach classes as well.

Then, things are interrupted by an attempt on Wendell's life by assassins sent by his step-mother. Wendell wants his throne back, but hasn't been able to find the door he wants back into the kingdom. After the attack, it becomes more of a priority to find the door. Emily and Wendell are going to the Austrian Alps hunting it, but they cannot go alone. Ariadne, Emily's niece, and Farris Rose, the head of their department at Cambridge, accompany them in their search. And thus the adventure begins.

In search of the Nexus, a sort of hub of doors which Emily believes gives them the best chance of finding a door back into Wendell's homeland, they will encounter all kinds of the Folk and dangers. All of this is told in the manner of journal entries written by Emily. So, we get to be in her head as she describes her experiences. I wasn't as fond of the footnotes that she sometimes includes as she was, though.

I enjoyed watching the relationship between Emily and Wendell change as they both grew. They are fun to read about in no small part to the way they speak to each other trading teasing remarks as though they'd been married for years.

Shadow remains my favorite as Emily's companion. He seems to be getting up in years, but still manages to protect her when he feels it's needed. He has mastered his glamor as a canine. And I enjoyed seeing Poe added back into the story this time as he was such a help in the first book.

While there is sort of a little lull while they are looking for the nexus, generally the book moves forward at a good speed. The action moves fastest at the beginning and towards the end. And even during the lull, the occurrences move the story along.

I gave the book 5 out of 5 stars. I enjoyed the characters and the story. I felt it was well written. If you like stories about the Folk, you will most likely enjoy this book. You might enjoy it even more though, if you read Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faerie first.

Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett was released January 16, 2024 by Del Rey.

I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley. This did not affect my opinion.

This book finds Emily and Wendell continuing their search for Wendell's door back to his kingdom. It brings on some new supporting characters, Rose, a curmudgeonly colleague, and Ariadne, Emily's Dryadologist aspiring niece. Also, Poe returns which is a major plus because he is my favorite little brownie!

Overall the book was well done, while not as good as book 1 it was still a solid and well written book. Tanks to Netgalley for the eARC.

I am in love with this series and would happily read about Emily and Wendell's adventures with the fae forever! This was such an amazing follow-up to the first book. I truly didn't think it could get better, but it did.

Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands is a perfectly delightful, cozy fantasy. I loved the addition of some new characters like Emily's niece and Wendell's cat. I completely adore Olga the cat and can't wait for her to be a fixture in the next book! Shadow and Poe also played a wonderful role in this story, and it was great having them around again. Poe, in particular, is adorable!

I'm so beyond excited that a third book is coming!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
