Although this didn’t hook me in as much as Emily Wilde’s encyclopaedia of faeries, I still thought it was very cute. I love their relationship so much! The ending was satisfying. I love Emily Wilde’s series and can’t wait for the next book

The dynamic between Emily and Wendell is just so fun. It reminds me so, so much of Sophie and Howl from Howl's Moving Castle, which is one of my favorite books and series ever. I am fairly confident I can say the same for this series as well. I love Emily and Wendell as characters so much. This book really expands upon their relationship while Emily works on her research into the Faerie realm, in particular creating a map of their doorways. While on their journey to research that, Emily and Wendell end up with two companions. Dr. Rose is a fellow Cambridge Professor of Dryadology, who somewhat forces himself on the excursion Emily and Wendell are likely to discover a huge breakthrough in Dryadology, and his expertise is obviously needed to assist. Emily also brings her apprentice, her niece, Ariadne. Both Rose and Ariadne are well-developed supporting characters that add to the story. Emily has a difficult time navigating interpersonal relationships, and both Rose and Ariadne create some challenges for Emily to overcome while also serving as a support for her.

I realized while reading this that one reason I love Emily so much is that, as a faerie scholar, she is incredibly knowledgeable about the faerie world and lore. This leads to situations that she is able to solve the problem on her own without Wendell's help. If anything, Wendell is the damsel in distress in this book, despite him being quite a powerful and skilled <spoiler>Faerie King</spoiler>. I suppose this is another good way to compare these two to Sophie and Howl, but I just love it. Wendell is there to support Emily when she finally needs it, but Emily is so strong on her own. I feel like the romantic fantasy series hasn't done a good job at creating independent female characters, so this one just really stands out because it does such a great job. I know I keep going on about the relationship between Wendell and Emily, but the plot of the book is very good here, too. Honestly it is more of a fantasy novel than it is a romance. It's just a very character-focused story, so I end up focusing on the characters and their relationships. The way Emily approaches Faerie with a scholar's eye is very fun. It helps build a foundation for world that generally is nonsense otherwise. Through Emily's eyes, you can see some explanation, but at the same time, Faerie logic always applies. It's really well-crafted and interesting, rather than glossed over or overly complex.

This installment in the series is also told via Emily's journal entries. I love this format so much because Emily really has her own distinct voice, so it's fun to be in her head. In my previous review, I mentioned that she sounds like Mary Poppins and she retains that here. I imagine all books in this series will be journal entries. I can't help but hope that maybe we'll get some Wendell author chapters in the next book, but either way I'm looking forward to see where it leads next.

Just an utter delight. I forgot how much I enjoyed the first and this did not disappoint as a sequel.

I really enjoyed this sequel. I wasn't expecting to find so much to love from these characters a second time. The world-building is so immersive, the writing is superb. I had a blast flying through this cozy read and can't wait to keep journeying in this universe.

I love this series! So cozy and yet adventurous. I hope there is More to come for this series and this is absolutely an author to watch.

I forgot to cross post my Goodreads review:
These books are able to deftly weave comedy of manners-esque characters and dialogue with dreamlike scenes of fairy whimsy that take sudden detours into nightmare.

An excellent follow-up to the first!
I'm also now a proud owner of a physical copy

Such an amazing sequel to an already amazing series. Emily is up to her same old tricks and I just can’t get enough of this cozy tale. Can’t wait for the next one!

Just as charming as the first! Heather Fawcett's world-building is as enchanting as ever. While there were welcome nods to familiar elements from the first book, we also got a lot of expansion - making it incredibly easy to get lost in the story once again.

Often cruel and cunning, the fae continue to add a layer of danger and unpredictability. Fawcett does an excellent job of balancing their mesmerizing allure with the very real peril they pose.

The relationship between Emily and Wendell has been the perfect slow burn. Their banter remains sharp and witty, but in this book, we really begin to see a growing tenderness between them. This evolving dynamic brings both tension and warmth, beautifully balancing the high-stakes adventures with a more intimate emotional journey.

I’m already eagerly awaiting the next installment. This book only deepened my attachment to these characters, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

This was such a good book 2! I normally don't continue series because I am afraid they wont hold up. But this one changes that. It picks up shortly after book 1 and Emily is not letting anything slow her down. I felt like I could very much relate to her and how she struggles with people. She cares but doesn't always understand why people feel and act how they do. And Bambleby is there with her the whole time filling in what she isn't picking up. She's also trying to get him home. We have her niece now and ash her co worker/department head. I an not sure what I feel having her niece around, but it was fun to see Emily try with her to make their relationship better.
We also get to meet Wendelys mom and she definitely crazy lol.
This cozy, funny fantasy is just what you need as a palate cleanser

This sequel lived up to all of my expectations after reading the first in the series. I love how the story continued, and how we continued getting to know our much loved characters.

Wendell and Emily return to Faerie in this endearing sequel. All the cozy elements from the first book are here plus an expansion of the academic band misfits. Hooray for found family! Readers can also anticipate more romance that leaves you wanting a little camping trip with your partner.

Upon finishing this book, my first reaction was 'please let there be another book after it'. As an academic this book called to my soul (though I can only dream of being able to be an academic like those portrayed here, with fieldwork available to them). The way that it is written is inventive, the story intriguing, and the characters amazing. I think there is something in this book for pretty much any reader, though perhaps it just affected me so much that I have some bias. In short, if you like faeries, if you like characters who are flawed but tug at your heartstrings, if you like dark academia, if you like beautifully written language, or a plot that catches you tight and won't let go, you'll probably like this book.

As this is the second book in the series, it's written in the same tone as Encyclopaedia of Faeries. There are some new characters that provide new layers of interaction for Emily and Wendell. Overall, the novel is enchantingly cozy and worth the read!

I love this book and the series. Emily Wilde is a quintessential practical heroine. This book is great for fans of fantasy and romance. I can’t wait for the next book. It is on my reader's advisory list for what to read on a rainy day. It's a good read-alike for Naomi Novik readers,.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for a honest review!

After I finished the first book, I immediately joined NetGalley in order to request an advanced copy, because I just couldn't wait to find out what happened next!

Heather Fawcett once again does an incredible job of building an intricate and lush world of faeries, weaving well-known folklore and her own additions in such a seamless way. I daresay I loved this book even more than the first one! I think it was because I was already invested in the characters, and I just loved all the time we spent with them, introducing new ones and fleshing out existing relationships. I particularly can't get enough of Emily and Wendell's relationship! There were so many beautiful and heartwarming moments between them in this book - moments that left me gushing and giggling every time!

And let's not forget the mystery and the high-stakes action that kept me holding my breath every time a new twist or a new danger was revealed! Even though it's in journal format, that doesn't lessen the fast pace with which we're pulled along in the action, every detailed description from Emily fully immersing you into the world, her emotions tugging at your heart the whole time. Though even with the higher-stakes, they weren't constant, and the book still very much felt as cozy as the first.

Personally, I don't like how most popular fantasy books write the fae. I love the complicated nature of faeries, exploring how separated their morals and ideals are from humans, how utterly inhuman and perplexing they are, and yet at the same time how almost similar to humans they can sometimes become in their curiosity and fascination with our world. Absolutely no hate to authors who write their fae otherwise, but I just personally don't vibe with it. I absolutely adore how Heather Fawcett expands upon all the things I love about fae in the Emily Wilde series, and it's one of the reasons this series is quickly climbing up to my favorites list.

Again, thank you to NetGalley, and Heather Fawcett of course, for the opportunity to read and review this book, and I cannot wait until book three!!

I want to like this series so badly because the concept is interesting and the covers are beautiful, but the writing is just so dry and twisty. Overall it was just very difficult to get through and the entire book had a very monotonous pace to the point where I didn't know what was important or not because it all felt so flat.

I think the second book was definitely my favorite. The first one definitely gave me cozy fantasy but this 2nd one gave me so much more!
The fantasy vibes were all over. Wendell and Emily in this book was exactly what i wanted to see. I cannot wait for the next book!

I loved Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Fairies, and this follow-up was excellent too! Such a fun, fast-paced fantasy story, and I cannot wait for the next one.

Emily Wilde is an incredible researcher and terribly perceptive in the ways of faerie, but equally blind to the ways in which the people around her love her. This character walks a line between acute awareness for her hyper focus and complete unawareness for anything outside of that. Emily is perfectly balanced by her faerie counterpart who is all charm and zero dedication to their chosen field. The additions of Emily's niece and Professor Rose added cast depth without taking away focus from Emily's mission - they enhanced it! I look forward to seeing more from this group and from Heather Fawcett.
