I saw this book all over social media and I thought it would be right up my alley. Unfortunately it fell short for me. I don’t really love the main character and i had not read the first book yet so i had to read that one before i could get to this one. I wasnt a huge fan of the first one and honestly if i had not gotten this free copy i probably would not have read this one either. Pretty bummed because the cover is beautiful.
I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first Emily Wilde. Although I think a big reason is the timing that I read this one. Cozy fantasies take a lot of right timing and mood to be enjoyable. When the mood’s off, my experience becomes less exciting and the book feels slow paced, not very intriguing and the stake is too low for me to care much. However, I truly appreciate Heather Fawcett’s writing especially about the atmosphere. It’s beautifully crafted and written.
This book was a great follow-up to the first book of the Emily Wilde series. It keeps the same cozy fantasy feeling of the first story while also adding in new elements that capture your attention and make you want to keep reading. I love that we get to see more of Emily and Wendell's story unfold while also learning about new creatures and new parts of faerie in this book. I'm excited to see how the story continues in the next book!
I absolutely devoured this, just as I did the first book! The audio was particularly fantastic, too. I'm an auto-buy fan of this author's now for life.
This was a wonderful follow up in the Emily Wilde Series! I loved the dynamic between Emily and Bambleby. Such a good cozy fantasy read!
I really liked this one. Heather Fawcett's Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands is a delightful sequel that continues to enchant with its blend of academic whimsy and magical exploration. This time, Emily Wilde ventures into the Otherlands, a realm filled with wonder and danger, showcasing Fawcett's knack for creating richly atmospheric settings and endearing characters. The narrative is a charming mix of adventure and scholarly pursuit, with Emily's dry wit and determined spirit at the heart of the story. While the book delivers on its promise of a magical journey, some sections feel a bit drawn out, slowing the overall pace. Nevertheless, Fawcett's imaginative world-building and the growing camaraderie between the characters keep the reader engaged. Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands is a satisfying continuation of the series, perfect for readers who love a mix of magic, mystery, and academic escapades.
This review highlights the book's strengths while offering a balanced perspective that aligns with a 4/5 star rating.
I LOVED THIS BOOK! This series is quickly becoming a comfort series for me, the characters are so lovable and the setting feels so cozy, I recommend this to everyone!
Emily is one of my absolute favorite characters. She is just so relatable to me. Getting so focused on her passions and her fierce loyalty are such great characteristics. She shows her love and support very differently than others but you know she feels it. I loved that we got to see Poe again. I just love him. The writing for these books is just perfect. I get so immersed in the story. I can easily picture everything. I cannot wait to read the next one. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
A nice sequel that keeps the same whimsical vibe of the first book. It was a slightly higher stakes than the first book, but I really liked how characters from the first book made an appearance in this one too. Overall, I really liked it!
Thank you NetGalley for the eARC.
Unfortunately, I had a difficult time getting into this book, and so although I tried, I did not finish it. I’m not sure if it was me or just the flow of the book. I did like seeing Shadow again though! I enjoyed the first one more.
Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me to read this.
Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands is a wonderful second installment in the series and another beautifully written book to fall in love with. The world continues to be beautiful and engaging - Fawcett does not disappoint.
Thank you to NetGalley, Heather Fawcett and Ballantine/Del Rey for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. This review is wholly my own & may not be reproduced.
I feel bad that I haven’t enjoyed this series as much as I feel like I should. I know it’s wildly popular & I am definitely part of the minority, but it has just failed to hold my attention. And this is 100% speculative & not any kind of shade toward the author. She has obviously written a well-loved fantasy series that is original. Her prose, character development & world-building are fantastic. It just didn’t grab me. For me, it was a bit boring & moved at a snail’s pace, but that was also in large part to the fact that I wasn’t enjoying it.
In all fairness, I read another recent release (The Ornithologist’s Guide to Field Love) and it had a VERY similar feel to me & I didn’t enjoy it for the same reasons, but that is also one that was popular with readers.
So, to wrap it up – Heather, it’s not you, it’s me. Sadly, I don’t think I will continue with future installments, but wish you the best of luck with it!
Thank you so much to NetGalley for the arc!
Wow. Just wow. I adored the first book and this one was just as good. I had so much fun returning to Emily and Wendell’s world and even enjoyed the new characters who were introduced. Heather Fawcett does an amazing job of making these characters feel real, I feel like I just found this journal in an old used books store.
While I will say that this book is a little less cozy than the first, the stakes are a bit higher than in book 1, it is still cozy nonetheless. Regardless, you will have an amazing time with this book!
I enjoyed this book just as much, if not more, than the first one. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. I am completely obsessed with this world and characters.
Emily and Wendell are perfect. I love them both so much. The new characters were fleshed out well and Emily’s new adventure in the Faerie realm was whimsical yet somewhat creepy. Reading this was very much like watching a movie for me. I could envision everything from the setting to the creatures.
If you enjoyed the first book, definitely read this one! I can’t wait to read the third book and spend more time with Emily in this world. 5 magical stars for me. Thank you so much to Netgalley and Random House Ballantine for the ARC!
A Fantaastic second installment to a greaat series that I reaally fell in love with from the jump! I really have enjoyed this series and the world that has been created.
This book is beautifully written and was so charming to read! I adore Heathers writing style and storytelling abilities. Her ability to capture the attention of the reader is crazy good, and I am so excited to continue reading this series!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
This was a very fun edition to this cozy fantasy series and I did enjoy it for the most part. But I didn’t like this one quite as much as the first.
Just like the first one, I loved the adventures with the fair folk, witty banters, Emily, and Wendell. I also loved the introduction of the new characters.
Even though I liked the first one more, I will still continue with the series.
Sometimes second books fall flat for me, especially when I loved the first book, and sadly this book did just that. While I love Emily and the other characters in this story as well as the world that has been built, I just found this installment particularly slow and painful to read. While this book did help move the overall plot of the story along, I felt that that was about all it accomplished.
I absolutely adored this book! I think I loved it even more
Than the first! Emily is such a lovable MC with her flaws and quirks. The magic is amazing and as always I love the journal format. Thank you for an ARC
Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands was the perfect sequel to Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries. The story was just as cozy and fun as the first installment and I loved being able to watch Emily and Wendell's relationship continue to develop. This series has so many loveable characters and cute vibes. I can't wait to continue.
