4.5⭐️ these books are so much fun! I listened to parts of it on audio and I think I sometimes just get a little distracted that way cause I found myself lost in the story at times but also I feel like some things are just a little complex and harder to understand lol. I really loved how this book had more of a plot and storyline that we were following. An objective so to say. I feel like at times it is a little anticlimactic and the more intense parts get a bit rushed over but overall I still really enjoyed it. I will forever just adore this world and these characters.

Bambleby and Emily are on another adventure in the sequel to Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries. Emily falls into the magical and mysterious world of faeries again to help Bambleby find the door to his realm. Emily makes new friends and has to evade dangerous Folk that are everywhere.

Some stories stick with you after you close the book. This is one book that I wish I could jump back into over and over again. I love the characters. Especially the relationship between Bambleby and Emily. There's the banter and, of course, Bambleby's charm. This story is written as journal entries from Emily which adds more to the story.

If you love faeries, mystery, and adventure, this book is for you. I highly recommend it!

Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for a copy of this book in exchange for my review.

Heather Fawcett’s ability to retell the tale of the fae is so refreshing and sweet. This was an awesome follow up to the first Emily Wilde tale. I cannot wait for the next installment and all the new and old creatures we’ll get to meet and see

Heather has done it again. The vibes? Immaculate. The romance? Chef's kiss. Wendell and Emily set off on yet another adventure. We get more answers, but also more questions -- and a cat! I cannot wait for the conclusion of what has to be one of my favorite series ever.

I absolutely adore this series. This was one of my most anticipated releases this year, and it definitely lived up to my expectations. It’s a wonderful follow-up to the first book: it builds upon the characters and relationships, introduces new characters, and expands the faerie world. I am very much looking forward to the next book and seeing what comes next!

Oftentimes when the first book was so refreshingly unique, it can be hard to carry the momentum on to the sequel- and that most certainly did not happen here! Map of the Otherlands was a worth follow-up, and honestly one that could have stood well on it's own especially following such a strong debut.

The biggest strength in Map of the Otherlands was our characters, and how they grew and developed. I think the medium of the "diary" helps, however we really experience Emily accomplishing feats bigger than the page. And how heartwarming to know that Wendell's support was always there. They quite actually are my favorite book couple to date.

I absolutely cannot wait to see what next is in store for Emily Wilde as she tackles the fae lands. Anyone looking for a quaint fantasy, yet has a heart of adventure- this is definitely the series.

I loved returning back to these characters. I continue to find the dynamic of the romantic pair at the center of the story fascinating. It doesn't fit the stereotypical male/female roles which makes it so enjoyable and keeps the banter endearing. I was also really fascinated with the premise of this one and can't wait to see where the story goes from here!

Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett was everything I wanted it to be and more! I loved getting to jump back into this beautiful and dangerous world. The writing was whimsical and flowing. The plot was engaging and kept me hooked from page one. Wendell is definitely my favorite character. He's going to have my heart forever. This was a perfect end to a wonderful duology I highly recommend this for fans of cozy fantasy or ever just fantasy in general.

Thank you to the publishers and netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

This book did a decent continuation of the overarching story however Emily felt like a completely different person than the first book. Great writing though and I enjoyed more fae.

This was even better than the first book! The coziness and picturesque writing did me in! I loved seeing more of Wendall and the adventure did not disappoint.

One of my most anticipated books of 2024! I loved the first installment of Emily Wilde and was so excited to join her and Wendell on another adventure.

As with the last book, Map of the Otherlands is a nice blend of cozy fantasy and thrilling adventure. It was great to be introduced to new characters while also revisiting the beloved characters from book 1. The writing feels authentic to Emily's character and I appreciate that she's not a perfect protagonist. I find Emily to be relatable in all her flaws. I also loved the twist on the typical fantasy trope of the prince saving the damsel in distress.

My only criticism is that I wish the romance between Emily and Wendell had been a bit more climactic. I wish there was more banter and more romantic tension, more of an in-depth look at their feelings for each other. Granted, I get that Emily's character is more reserved about matters of the heart, and this being her journal I suppose it makes sense for her to not focus on her romantic feelings. But! The Wendell lover in me felt a little let down at the brusqueness with which the romance was handled.

Thank you to Del Rey and NetGalley for this ARC of Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands in exchange for an honest review. Heather Fawcett has such an incredible way of writing the most vulnerable characters. The writing matches the covers, and it's so stunning the way this story is written. It's slow but it's all vibes. I love Emily so much.

This would be 5 stars if not for the lull in the middle that resulted in me putting the book down for too long before getting back into it again. It had all the things I liked about the first book--cozy wintry setting, quirky characters, and light academia. The sequel spends more time on the main relationship, adding depth to the feelings there, and on top of that develops Emily's relationships with her niece and a fellow academic, both of whom provided perspective. I loved the darker elements that this book introduced with regard to Faerie and the villagers. I look forward to continuing when book 3 comes out! Thank you to Netgalley and Random House for the ARC.

The wonderful thing about Fawcett’s writing is her characters. She crafts people who are loveably flawed. Emily, for all her knowledge of the Folk, has a hard time understanding people. Wendell has great intentions, but doesn’t think things through. Ariadne is eager to please, but is stubborn. Dr. Rose wants to protect people, but forgets to listen to them. All of these people are so engaging because their flaws make them real. And great characters make for a great story.

I’m not sure what it is about Ms. Fawcett’s Emily Wilde books that just make me stop everything else and rabidly consume them, but she is two for two, so far, in getting my full attention.

Emily Wilde is a dryadologist from Cambridge who, seemingly, is quickly becoming a pioneer in her field just through pure tenacity and grit. In her previous adventure, Professor Wilde managed to get herself betrothed to a Fae of the Winter realms, and, through help of fellow scholar Wendell Bambleby, escaped.

In this next chapter, Emily is working on a sort of atlas of the faerie lands when she and Bambleby learn that Bambleby’s step-mother is trying to have him killed. If you haven’t read the first book, then you don’t know that Wendell Bambleby is actually a faerie king in exile, and quite besotted with one Miss Emily Wilde.

In order to set things straight, Wendell and Emily must find one of the many doors to Wendell’s former realm, and attempt to set things straight with dearest step-mother before anyone ends up deceased prematurely.

this plan, Emily and Wendell plan to set out to the Austrian Alps to do this, but are interrupted in their plans by an attack by assassins at Cambridge in front of their department head — Dr. Rose — and Emily’s niece/assistant: Ariadne.

Now this quad is all set to head to the Alps to find this doorway: a simple plan when anyone else but Emily and Wendell would be involved.

Needless to say, there are a ton of mysteries, a wide variety of Fair Folk, some mystery, some intrigue, a wee bit of violence, and even a smattering of romance.

Ms. Fawcett is just extraordinary at building amazing world of both the fantastic and mundane, and she flexes that muscle liberally in this gem. I quite literally consumed over half this novel in one overnight session while sitting in a cabin in the woods, and it was perfection.

One of the things that makes this book so approachable is that it puts the reader in a very comfortable spot to observe what is happening without being condescending or trite. Yes, this novel has a ton of footnotes in what can only be described as one of the most endearing traits that Emily has in attempting to separate the academic from the real, and the bluntness adds a degree of humor that I greatly appreciate.

I, for one, cannot wait for the further adventures of Emily and Wendell. Hopefully I won’t have to wait long.

Reading challenge category - 2023 Booklist Queen: About magic

Thanks to #NetGalley for the ARC ebook - even though I'm very late in reading and reviewing.

Somehow, this was even more boring than the debut. This story felt like a rehash of the first installment, as noted by abother reviewer. The plot follows a predictable pattern: tier 1: action, problem resolution. tier 2: travel, action, Emily annoys locals. tier 3: Emily makes poor decision(s), rescue, happy ending.

The introduction of Ariadne (Emily's niece) and Professor Rose add a slight dimension to the story, but not enough to make it interesting. Rose starts off as an enemy, but becomes a friend. Ariadne is a thorn in Emily's side, but that just makes Emily look like a terrible person because Ariadne is just excited and trying to learn.

Wendell becomes more of a side character during this one, which is odd because he's supposed to be the love interest. I found myself speed reading until the end.

These books are very warm and cozy! This one didn’t give me QUITE the same feel as the first but I still loved it. The way the author writes descriptions is so good at making you really visualize she is wanting to see/feel.

5 stars!!

I have had this ARC for so long and I got overwhelmed during the school year and didn't finish reading it before the release date, but here is the review anyway!!

I LOVED this book. I continue to love the way that it's formatted, I really enjoy the footnotes and learning the lore/academia of this alternate version of our world. If I was going to have any career or do anything in a perfect world, I would be a dryadologist because I simply love folklore So. Much. And every time I knew something they were referencing or caught something Emily hadn't yet figured out, I was so proud of myself. I also love Emily and Wendell just as much as before and I've loved the way their relationship evolved. I also liked the introduction of new characters and thought they fit the character dynamics. I also enjoyed the mystery in this one and learning about the fauns and Danielle DeGray.

However, I would say that I liked the first one a bit more. My only note would be that the arc of the plot felt very similar to the first book, just in the sense of going to a remote town, investigating a never-before-seen type of Folk, having Wendell get sick and Emily save him, and then him swoop in to save her, was very much like the first. But I enjoyed learning about Wendell's world and finding his door, so even as the plot hit similar beats, I felt that it furthered the overall arc of the series and taught me more about the world. It didn't really. bother me, but it is something I noticed and that other readers should be aware of.

I am so unbelievably excited for the third book to come out!!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the Advanced Copy!

Fawcett is becoming my one of favorite fantasy writers, the second book in the series is just has fun. The two main characters are relatable and so cute together. You can't help but love them and enjoy the adventure. Emily takes you to this beautiful world of wonder with this academic picture, will make you want to tour Oxford. I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series.

Emily needs to finish her research on the folk lore and her quest is map of the realms. Also help Bambleby find his door back to his realm. Emily on another adventure, which Emily believes they may have found the door to Bambleby realm, but can she save her heart in the mix of all his?
