It's so good! That tangible I can't wait to see how this plays out chemistry you hope to find in every book. This is a solid read for sure!!!

"When mysterious faeries from other realms appear at her university, curmudgeonly professor Emily Wilde must uncover their secrets before it's too late, in this heartwarming, enchanting second installment of the Emily Wilde series.

Emily Wilde is a genius scholar of faerie folklore who just wrote the world's first comprehensive encyclopaedia of faeries. She's learned many of the secrets of the Hidden Ones on her adventures...and also from her fellow scholar and former rival Wendell Bambleby.

Because Bambleby is more than infuriatingly charming. He's an exiled faerie king on the run from his murderous mother and in search of a door back to his realm. And despite Emily's feelings for Bambleby, she's not ready to accept his proposal of marriage: Loving one of the Fair Folk comes with secrets and dangers.

She also has a new project to focus on: a map of the realms of faerie. While she is preparing her research, Bambleby lands her in trouble yet again, when assassins sent by his mother invade Cambridge. Now Bambleby and Emily are on another adventure, this time to the picturesque Austrian Alps, where Emily believes they may find the door to Bambleby's realm and the key to freeing him from his family's dark plans.

But with new relationships for the prickly Emily to navigate and dangerous Folk lurking in every forest and hollow, Emily must unravel the mysterious workings of faerie doors and of her own heart."

The series everyone has been urging me to pick up. Perhaps now's the time?

in this sequel to emily wilde’s encyclopaedia of faeries, we follow emily and wendell as mysterious faeries appear at their university. they’re also on the search for a door to get wendell back to his realm, though wendell also has to steer clear of his murderous stepmother.

book one took me by surprise earlier this year, so i was very excited to see this one up for request! this book was so much more action-packed, which made for a fun adventure. additionally, i loved the relationship development between emily and wendell. i can’t wait to see where book three takes them!

Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands is book 2 of the Emily Wilde series. I definitely enjoyed book 1, but book 2 just didn't hit the same. I enjoyed the search for Bambleby's door and the addition of new characters to their motley crew. Some parts just felt like they dragged just a little too much. Still, if you enjoyed book 1, I would recommend picking this one up.

I adore everything about this book! Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries was one of my favorite books this year, and this sequel is just as lovely and enchanting!! I love the banter between Emily and Wendell, and the new characters introduced are also so fun to read. Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands has secured this series as one of my favorite cozy fantasies, and a perfect read for a cold day. All you need is a cup of tea!

This book picks up a few months after the events in Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries. Emily and Wendell have returned to teaching and lecturing. Wendell, a faerie king hiding in the mortal world from his murderous stepmother, keeps asking Emily to marry him, but Emily has declined to give her answer, as the prospect of marrying a king of faerie is altogether a bit much to consider. But when Wendell is poisoned (on his birthday, no less!) and assassins sent by his stepmother are hunt them in the halls of Cambridge, the pair are determined to find the door that will lead them to Faerie and to Wendell's kingdom. The adventure has them setting out to follow the decades old disappearance of a famous scholar in the Austrian Alps, with new allies and dangerous faeries along the way.

This book has all the same magic and excitement of the first book, but even more adventure and some new characters that are endearing and add a lot to the story. Ariadne is Emily's niece, who tries her best to follow in her aunt's footsteps. She is sweet and caring, and I think helps to soften some of Emily's harder edges. Professor Rose, and older scholar in their department, tries to reign Emily in and keep her from making any impulsive mistakes that might put her in danger. While there is some romance, it is not the main focus of this story. Though we do see the relationship between Emily and Wendell deepen, and their trust in each other grow as they lean on each other's strengths and support each other.

Overall, I just loved this book!! It was just a perfect cozy fantasy read, and I can't wait to find out what happens to Emily and Wendell in book 3! Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Del Rey for the electronic advanced reader copy.

4.5⭐️ This book has the same fun pace, dialogue, and adventure as the first book. Being with Emily and Wendell again, plus the cast of new characters and old friends, was just as charming as the first installment of this duology (unsure if more books are being made but there easily could be and I would read!). A quick fun read I'd recommend to anyone. While it has slower parts, just like the first book, I enjoyed the story and felt it was a fitting build upon the last book.

Thank you to Net Galley and Del Ray for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The amazing sequel to Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Fairies. As a person who loves fairies I am so exited for this release!

Okay, I want to start this off by saying how much I adored Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries. I am a little bummed to say I did not enjoy Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands as much. While the story was still as whimsical and cute as the first book, I really struggled with the pacing of this book. I know chapter length preferences are a completely subjective opinion, but part of me thinks I would have enjoyed this more if I had an audiobook version like I did with book one. These chapters got so unnecessarily long at times, it got to the point where I was like “wow I have been reading for 20 minutes and there is still 10+ minutes left of this chapter.” Long chapters are totally fine for me, until I start to notice how long they are, then it really takes me out of the story. There were also a few plot inconsistencies, but that’s me nitpicking. I really do love Emily and Wendell as characters and I love how we got a deeper look at some of the side characters this time around. The faerie elements were also a lot darker and more complex. I will definitely continue with the series and am super thankful I got an ARC of this!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange of an honest review!

Emily Wilde’s Map of Otherlands is another scholarly adventure with endearing characters. Emily Wilde is likened to an introverted and nerdy version of Indiana Jones, and that she is going on research adventures and having to face dangers. I enjoyed getting to go on an adventure again with Emily Wilde and her love interest Wendell Brambly. I enjoy their grumpy sunshine romance and how they equal each other out as characters. I also enjoyed the addition of new characters including the head of department of dryadology, Rose, and Emily's niece, Ariadne. I was not sure where author Heather Fawcett would take the story in this sequel, but I was pleasantly surprised by the plot line. We are following Emily and Wendell as they are trying to save Wendell from assassination by his stepmother, the queen of his realm. I enjoy the format of the story written as Emily's journal entries, including when Wendell writes an entry. This sequel had all the great elements of Fae lore, Emily's personality as she is stubborn and awkward, and Wendell's chaotic, carefree nature. I did feel there was less involvement with the locals of where they traveled to in Austria, which I enjoyed in the first book. However, I enjoyed the storyline of chasing these long lost scholars and discovering the door to Wendell's realm. Overall this was a four out of five star read for me and I would definitely suggest it to others.

Emily Wilde is a scholar and one of the most prominent minds regarding faerie folklore. She successfully wrote the first-ever encyclopaedia of faeries, which includes information gathered from her many adventures with the help of her colleague, and former rival-turned-sweetheart, Wendell Bambleby. Now, Emily is gearing up for a new project that will focus on mapping all the faerie realms, but once again finds trouble at her door.

Wendell Bambleby is not your average Cambridge professor. He's an exiled faerie king on the run from assassins sent by his blood-thirsty stepmother. All Wendell wants is to find a backdoor into his kingdom, and for Emily to finally accept his marriage proposal. Emily knows that certain dangers come with being involved with the fae, but she's determined to help Wendell. With the help of friends, both real and lost in time, Emily and Wendell must race to find the door to his realm before it's too late.

The first book in this series was one of my favorite reads of 2023, so I was looking forward to picking this up. I'm happy to report that it more than delivered on the cozy fantasy vibes. Everything about the writing is so atmospheric. I liked getting to dive more into Emily's character. She comes across as cold and grumpy, but it's somehow so endearing. It makes me like her more despite how prickly she is. I love the dynamic between her and Wendell, who is essentially like the human equivalent of a cinnamon roll. Their banter is always top-notch, and I loved seeing their romance develop. I also liked learning more about the different types of fae. They add a darker element to the story that helps balance it out. The only slight issue I had was with the pacing of the plot. The beginning felt slow, and it wasn't until about halfway through that I started to feel invested. I still adore it because I love this world and these characters, and I can't wait to continue the series.

This was solidly on par with Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries, so if you enjoyed that one, you will enjoy this one, too. I love Emily Wilde as a character so much, and I love her dynamic with Wendell Bambleby. We also got to see the return of Poe in this book, and he was just as unbearably sweet and cute as he was in the first book. I adore him and how proud he is of his nice tree. Anyway, I will definitely be reading the third book whenever it's released.

What can I say? Heather Fawcett does it again. This time, Emily and Wendell are on a more concentrated mission to find a door to his homeland and face his mother. Now having to face entirely new dangers—with some unexpected allies—the pair encounter all the usual oddities that made the first book so great: strange, borderline frightening fae, wary towns folk, and whimsical mysteries just begging to be solved.

The world is as enriching as ever, with lush descriptions of both nature and magic, and the characters are easy to root for. Emily and Wendell have an established bond, so the only thing they're wrestling with is whether she should commit herself to him forever, which I found to be a treat. The only reason I gave this read 4 stars is its pacing. The ending felt just a tiny bit rushed, BUT not enough to take me out of the story entirely. I would say it's still a solid sequel to the first book!

I loved this just as much as the first book. It did not disappoint in the slightest. Emily is just so matter-of-fact in the face of everything fantastical going around her. I will never get over how brilliant the whole scholarly take on the fae is. Wendell is also amazing and I adore how obsessed he is with Emily. He's so quirky and the two of them are so hilarious together. Every character is perfect, down to the faerie dog and cat. The world building is perfect. The plot development and emotional arc are perfect. I always care so much and get so invested by the end. I love everything about it. I can't wait for more.

A perfect follow-up to Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries with even more adventure, romance, danger, and blood than before! A quick read that'll have you leaning forward on your seat, itching to turn the page.

Somehow, Emily Wilde 2 is even better than the first! I really wanted to see more of Emily and Wendell’s relationship and felt like this gave the backstory to their friendship turned into relationship that was missing in the first. Like the first book, there is a very cozy winter setting with a unique point of view seeing the story from Emily’s journal entries. The secondary plot surrounds a mystery which elevates the story more than the first as well. I’m glad I read in December as this book is the perfect winter read! Overall 4 1/2 stars. Thank you to Net Galley for providing an arc of this book and I can’t wait to get a physical copy!

Picking up soon after the events of Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries, the second installment follows Emily and Wendell as they search for the backdoor into Wendell’s realm. The book starts off with quite the show, as Wendell’s stepmother has sent assassins after him and he’s forced to stave them off with a show of magic in front of countless witnesses. It’s clear that finding the door is of utmost importance, Emily and Wendell, along with the head of the dryadology department, and Emily’s niece set off for the quaint Austrian village of St. Liesl. This village is home to numerous doors, but the most promising clue was from a researcher who went missing many years before in those very mountains.
When they arrive in St. Liesl, the group finds a village marauded by fauns - a particularly vicious type of faerie that originates in Wendell’s realm, the Silva Lupi - which only serves to confirm the group’s suspicion of a door. The search begins in earnest and proves to be quite dangerous thanks to the numerous doors and the wibbly nature of the borderlands of Faerie. The plot is quite an adventure and retains the sense of discovery and danger that was so well done in the first book.
The true delight, let’s be honest, is Wendell and Emily! He proposed to Emily toward the end of the first installment and she has resisted giving an answer because being married to a Faerie king comes with a unique set of dangers all its own. Oh, but Wendell is an absolute darling and it’s so hard for Emily to resist his charms despite Professor Rose adamantly warning her against such a ‘foolish’ decision. I’m here for the slow burn romance, but for those who might not want a romance-centric book you have no need to worry! The relationships between all the characters are quite important and the plot is so well done I don’t think you’d mind. Besides, the fae are properly vicious - even Wendell when he needs to be!
I am so thoroughly charmed by both installments in this series and it’s most definitely one of my favorites now. I love how the Folk are properly mysterious and capricious and aren’t just beautiful humanoids as they are portrayed in the popular romantasy books. The Emily Wilde books are the perfect blend of plot, worldbuilding, atmosphere, and characterization and I absolutely cannot wait for news on book three!

What can I say—I am a huge fan of these Emily Wilde books. They don't fit well into my normal book choices, but they're incredibly entertaining with witty dialogue, complex relationships and rich settings (both in this world and in the Otherlands).

Normally, I like a bit of spice in my books, but for some reason, fade to black doesn't bother me in these books. It fits the characters and Emily's general fastidiousness.

This sequel flowed well from the previous book while still keeping its own unique identity. Do yourself a favor and pick up both!

The second book in a series and just as engaging as the first. That can be hard to accomplish. I love the MCs wit and naiveté yet educated responses. Always onto the pursuit of knowledge. I wished the flirty banter was still present between Emily and Wendel, but it still had those fun bits. Voted as my favorite book in this category for Goodreads!

Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett is a sequel following Emily and Wendell. Without spoiling anything about the first book, this book mainly revolves around finding missing people and find a missing door to a faerie realm. This one, like the first one, is told through Emily’s journal entries.

I think if you loved the first book, you will definitely enjoy this one. I love how academic they feel. Like I feel like I’m reading an actual academic journal about fae. I love the beginning of this when the characters were at a school because it made me feel like I was at school. I purposely read this as slowly as I could because I love being in this world so much.

The writing style in this is very purposeful. It’s a little dry and goes out of its way to over explain things. This can lead to the story feeling like it’s a lot more about telling than showing the events but it makes sense to me since it is told through journal entries.

The romance is so sweet and adorable. I love how Emily doesn’t go into a ton of detail about her relationship because it makes it feel more authentic to the journaling style and how she is more of an academic. But the nuggets we get are so cute.

I just adore these books so much. They are a perfect escape from the world because while they have stakes, it doesn’t feel too high. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

This was a wonderful second in the series.

Heather did it again and and Emily's character was just as wonderful. I truly enjoyed going back into Emily Wilde's life and world.

It is such a fun, entertaining, magical journey.
