An amazing addition to this light academia fantasy series. This one was set mainly in St Liesl, Austria and followed Emily, Wendell & co on their hunt to find a door to Wendells kingdom. I loved this story and the continuation of the love story was just *chefs kiss*! I cannot wait for the next book!

Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands proved to be exactly what I expected, a truly delightful romp through tales of fancy and lands of lore. Like Book 1, this one was so much fun to read. I loved meeting all of the Faeries, especially Snowbell. They're such dynamic characters because you never truly know what to expect. They could lead Emily to the highest cliff or the biggest bounty. Fawcett walks this line so masterfully, keeping the tension and excitement high.

I will admit, very little progress was made plot-wise in this book. Disregarding one major happening near the end, the majority of this was wandering around and researching Faeries. With this series, I'm totally fine with that. Because the best thing about these isn't the plot. No, it's the magic. It's the encounters with tricksy Fae and tentative townsfolk.

Just like the first book, Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands was a breath of fresh air. It was the perfect cozy read and I look forward to getting my hands on Book 3!

Five stars! I'd give more if I could. Absolutely LOVED this book. Somehow even more than the first. Amazing characters, very wholesome cozy fantasy ❤️ The MC is a quirky scholar in pursuit of creating a map of the Faerie "Otherlands". Being someone who comes from academic, I immediately connected with the MC and thoroughly enjoyed the inside jokes (like in the end, referencing being first author). I plan to read anything and everything Heather Fawcett writes. My only sadness is that this book was an ARC, which means I have *even longer* to wait for a potential third (or more?!) book.

I loved the first book so much I was feral to get my hands on this one. Going in, I was convinced that there was no way the sequel was going to be better than the first- the lovely cabin setting, the slow build up to a possible romance, the warming up of the town- but I was wrong. We had a cabin-but-bigger setting, more characters to love and/or hate (and then love), some townsfolk, a stronger romance plot, and more doggie. It was so much fun, and the additional action in it was surprisingly my favorite part, despite me loving the first for its coziness. I loved this one for its whimsy and its relationships. Emily grew so much in this and I desperately loved watching it.

I am so excited to see the continuation of Emily and Wendell's story! The couple have only just recovered from their last escapade when they find themselves traveling again to locate an elusive faerie door that has stumped other researchers in the past. This door is vital in providing entrance to Wendell's kingdom and maybe even saving his life. Once again, I was hooked from the beginning and cannot get enough of the determined Emily and the whimsical Wendell. I look forward to reading about the adventures in the next installment and I hope Heather Fawcett does not keep the readers waiting long!

I was surprisingly pleased with the first book in this series last year, and continue to be invested in Emily's adventures across Europe and Faerie with Wendell. Heather Fawcett's writing style/tone for Emily did take me a chapter or so to adjust to in the first book (I had worried Emily would be emotionless / overly rational), but was a much easier dive in book two. Emily has grown as a person and has more awareness of herself and others - though this book does lack Emily formally ingratiating herself with the people of St. Lies as she is much more focused on Wendell's door and the impacts of his stepmother moving against him with poison and assasins after ten years of exile.

For anyone reading with a love of dogs, the aging of Shadow is mentioned pretty consistently, but he is safe and alive at the end of this novel - I worried about him quite a bit.

I read this ARC (kindly provided by NetGalley) in one sitting on a plane ride, and was absorbed the entire time. Emily's door finding adventures lead her to multiple mysteries, including a lost Faerie scholar or two, as well as a few more dangerous common fae and pets. Emily is an even stronger and more capable scholar this go around and Wendell is a stalwart companion both on and off the page. I am so excited to see what happens in the next book given the developments in the final chapter.

Familiar characters do make their way onto the page - and it was nice to interact with Poe again and see the way Emily has built her own faerie abd friend community.

Where I think I have struggled overall in the series is understanding Emily and Wendell's relationship and declarations of love. While I enjoy reading about their relationship, I for some reason have trouble understanding their courtship as romantic. While Emily is a pragmatist and Wendell is whimsical, I think more deeply delving into those feelings might make it more real to me.

Overall I really enjoyed the story and would highly recommend the series to others.

I love this series so much. Such a great blend of cozy, fairytale, and light acedamia Emily and Wendell make me crack a smile every other page. I hope there are more stories planned in this world.

I absolutely LOVED the first book in this series, so I was so excited to be approved for the sequel! I was even more surprised when I enjoyed this book more than the first!

This book continues with Emily Wilde and Wendell Bambleby's partnership as they search for a magical door back to Wendell's faerie realm. Shy and awkward Emily is forced to navigate a new set of characters and the banter between Emily and Wendell remains top-notch. Wendell is very charming and is such a great opposite to Emily. I adore their relationship!

The writing throughout the whole book is beautiful, and I found myself wishing I could journey to the world that Fawcett creates. While the rules that exist in the faerie world are often nonsensical, Emily is the perfect narrator to bring them to life. The pacing is at times a little slow, though I think that adds to the cozy feel this story creates. I cannot wait for Book 3 in the series! I will be recommending this book to everyone I know.

Book two delivered many more great moments of sass and humor. We pick up a short time after the ending events of book 1 and immediately get some cozy academia vibes, Emily and Wendell banter. I love the characters introduced. I’ll say that some of these characters felt less fleshed out but as this is a diary I just think well why would Emily get too descriptive on anything that is not Fairy or Wendell antics. I truly loved this and can’t wait for the next installment

This book is the equivalent of sitting in front of the fireplace in autumn, with a blanket on your lap and a steaming mug of tea in your hands. It's the sense of calm and whimsy and coziness that I remember from childhood and that I strive to achieve now as an adult when I take trips away from the city in the fall or winter. Unfortunately, I feel too distracted or anxious about real life to be present in those moments now - even when I have the snow falling softly outside and the crackle of a fireplace to listen to. This book lifts me right out of my daily life in the city - even without the fire and the mug of tea - and it makes me feel that sense of whimsy and warmth that I found so comforting as a child. It's happiness, in book shape.

So yes. I think I quite liked this book.

I was so excited to take another adventure with Emily and Wendell and the Map of the Otherlands was a delightful second installment. Their new location in the Alps and the locals aren’t quite as enchanting as the village of Hrafnsvik (book 1, Encylopaedia of Faeries) but the nearness to the Otherlands was always intriguing and helpful at moving the plot forward. Given the circumstances I know why we didn’t get quite as much playful banter from Wendell but I’m sure book 3 will be making up for that!

Emily proved she was strong, intelligent and capable in book 1 and we really see her shine here. I loved that we got to figure things out and connect the dots with her while she solved the mysteries plaguing her current research. Those joining her in her research (whether invited or not) offered different insights into her past, her personality, and her motivations that continue to give her depth and relatability. I cheered as she stole the show at the climax of the story and I simply fell more in love with her tenacity and cleverness.

I’m glad her and Wendell have so much more to do and explore together as I eagerly await their next journey.

This book was written in a certain style that just wasn’t my cup of tea. I didn't feel like the characters or settings drew me in at all.

4.5 stars! I just adore this series! This brought you back into Emily and Wendell's world. I could have used a bit more Wendell but what I got was gold, I just love their dynamic. I could really read a book of the two of just their banter. I don't know how I am going to wait for the next book with how it ended. This was just as charming and quirky as the first book and brought back many of my favorite characters while introducing new ones. I read this during the heat of summer, I cannot wait to re-read it snuggled up with a blanket this winter. If you loved Encyclopaedia of Faeries you will love Map of the Otherlands!

Though not quite as fresh as the first book, this was nonetheless a highly enjoyable read with a colorful cast of characters. Wendell will forever be my favorite male love interest.

Just like the first book, this was such a fun read! My only issue is that it felt like a filler before last book is released. Which is fine!!! I wish more happened throughout the story.

There was some great development between Emily and Wendell and I can’t wait to see how the story concludes.

Thank you Random House Publishing Group, Heather Fawcett, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I was totally with this sequel and can’t wait for the next book in this series (pls write more,Fawcett). The characters were able to become real for me and the romance was EVERYTHING. I was giggling and smiling during Emily and Wendell’s interactions since they were always having the best banter. The plot in this book made literally scream multiple times and made me wonder what was going to happen next. The journaling format was both endearing and also sometimes took me out of the story. Will hopefully be getting more from this world<3

Book one was such a cozy adventure and book 2 delivered the same feelings! This book takes us on a new adventure to the Austrian Alps!

I absolutely adore Emily and Wendell's dynamic. Emily with her scholar's mind and almost akward social skills; and Wendell's care sunshine spirit.

Such a treat and fun cozy book! Couldn't recommend this series enough!!

Thank you NetGalley, random house publishing-Ballantine, and Heather for the arc!

This was everything I needed in a follow-up and more. It's difficult to do a good sequel, but when they're great they're great, and Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands delivered.

With the two primary characters already established, as well as the goal set up already by the end of the first book, we were able to jump directly into the meat of the story without much first-act setup needed. Though there was a bit in there to remind the reader of what transpired in the first book, it was not hand-hold-y, as some follow-ups can be.

Emily's journal format is back. Her footnotes add to the world in a novel way, adding worldbuilding exposition as a literal footnote. This allows for the squishy memory parts to truly feel that way, as Emily is trying to remember details that enchantment has rendered difficult to recall, a good way to handle distilling travel time that took days in-world down to a few pages, instead of described overly in detail.

I had a good chuckle early on, in which Emily thinks of her dog Shadow as fetching (eyyyy), which I don't think was an intentional pun on her part, but I may be wrong. Then there is, of course, the rapport between our leads, Emily and Wendell, which still reminds me of Sophie and Howl from Howl's Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones. One moment in particular stuck out as reminiscent: Emily threatening to make ribbons of Wendell's favorite cloak. It made me smile.

I look forward to book 3. I anticipate this being one of my favorite finished series of all time, once it is complete

This is one of those books that I wanted to read fast cause it was so good but also take my time and savor it. It is very similar to the first book in where it felt like a cozy -curl up with a blanket- fantasy. I didn’t think it would be possible for me to like the second book more than the first but here we are. I will now be recommending these books to all of my friends!

* I got this arc in exchange for a review but these are my honest opinions.
