This is a valuable book, and not just for leaders. A myriad of insightful and useful ideas about how to use EI to improve your interactions, relationships and life! A great treasure trove.
I'm not working right now and am mostly retired so a lot of this book didn't apply to me. I skipped around to the parts that do apply to me and I enjoyed those parts. I'd recommend this book for people looking to grow in the business part of their life.
I didn't finish it because I lost interest in all the parts that don't apply to me but the parts I read were good.
The author discusses twelve tenants of a successful person, described as a unicorn. The tenants included in this book include chapters on fast qualities, authentic and agile qualities, problem solvers, and anticipatory situations, those who are prepared for unpredictable situations, those who are self-aware of their environment, curiosity, connectivity, likeability, productiveness, and purpose-driven goals. I found this book to be a great resource for those seeking employment, or who are searching to step up their game in the workforce. I highly recommend this book.
Picked this one up based on reviews thinking that it might be a good one to review/recommend for recent college grads. However, I found that my experience was similar to that of the poor reviews: this advice is a rehash of so much already out there in easier to access/search form and what you can quickly find online is more actionable (google toxic boss and you can quickly find information to (1) validate your experience; (2) give more concrete and actionable advice).
"Emotional Intelligenc Game Changers" is a great starting point for learning about emotional intelligence. I like that I can grab bits of information at a time and a reader doesn't have to read the chapters sequentially. The reader can tackle specific topics when the need arises.
Overall, this book is a great reference guide for anyone looking to improve their emotional intelligence.
I love that you can dip in and out of this book, depending on what situation you find yourself in. There is lots of practical advice. I think the book is aimed at young professionals or those who want to take the next step in their careers, or people who are receiving feedback at work about how they come across.
I didn't find the book repetitive, although the intro said it might feel that way if you read it cover to cover. There are lots of quotes and thought-provoking short anecdotes. The book feels like an accessible way to put EI skills into practice. The activities at the end of each section will help you make a difference and change behaviour, and it all felt very doable.
A good read.
I received an advanced readers copy through Netgalley (thank you!).
This book gives a decent overview of each of the topics it covers. While it offers 101 tips, each of those are basic overviews, and doesn't go in greater depth of you were in need of that. This book is got a guide and a starting point, and gives you an idea of what to look deeper into elsewhere.
This would be a mostly useful quick reference guide for anyone trying to excel in the workplace. This would be particularly useful for anyone newly in a leadership position or aspiring to be an effective leader. It includes good reminders, even the reminders that are common sense and pretty basic are important to remember in times of stress or burn out.
One thing I felt was missing at times was a further breakdown or detail as to action items on how to complete certain suggestions. Bullet points such as increase self awareness or empathy but with not much follow up on the how. I did appreciate each EI exercise at the end of each chapter and do feel like there are gems within this.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dexterity for this ARC.
This is an amazing book on how to deal with people in the workplace. There are so many different, kind, mindful ways to handle things and this book provides all of that. Highly recommend this book to any leader in the workplace.
Straightforward and easy to comprehend, Emotional Intelligence Game Changers is a highly useful compendium of EQ tips and approaches that can be applied to one's workplace or personal life. Focusing on developing strong relationships and sound strategies to achieve optimal performance and productivity, this is not a cold set of instructions, but rather a helpful guide for those who are ready to take responsibility for themselves and create the change that everyone talks about, but so little do.
Pretty basic and doesn't give any good input that hasn't been said in a hundred other places. It is well organized however.
This was an interesting read. It's not so much a book you read cover to cover but more something you browse through and read the tips that appeal to you. I would say I found this more helpful as a manager of young people. I think more bosses should read this book.
