This was a pretty good book. It starts simple enough, but takes a silly turn once the little monster starts eating strange things. Once that is all gone, it seems there is only one thing left to eat. Most kids will have a great time reading this book.
The construction here is a simple one and will likely appeal to young toddlers. The monster is hungry. It eats a thing. Repeat in increasingly silly ways. The simple illustrations will allow even very young children to engage.
My 2 year old said "no" on every page. The monster eats everything! A funny book for toddlers. Simple and delightful.
I truly enjoyed the concept of this book and the art is friendly and accessible to kids. The idea is solid and especially the ending with eating the kiddo and finding they taste gross. It would appeal to kids humor but some kids might be offended by a toilet being yummy and them tasting gross. Also, the logical process doesn't make sense. While most of the book follows a logical flow from small object to larger object, there is a weird detour in the middle that seems to exist just to incorporate toilet humor.
Surprised myself by how invested in it I really was. I had commentary for every page I read. While this is a children’s book it’s just as entertaining for the adult who’s reading it. It does a good job of using repetition. And the art is perfectly simple.
In this adorable book, a little monster is very, very hungry and eats anything that comes its way, and not necessarily food. I won’t give away the ending, though.
The pictures are great and it’s a book of very few words, so absolutely perfect to read aloud to a young child. I liked it, and I’m not a child, but I can imagine the squeals of laughter that a young child would emit with every page.
Highly recommended.
I received this book as an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley.

Whoa. This confuses me. The target audience is ages 2-3. Ridiculous stories of eating a table or box when hungry goes against my psyche. The ending was abrupt with something like this doesn't taste good, and that is how I feel.
The toddlers/kids growing need fuel and I don't believe in playing at bedtime, bathtime, or mealtime. These are basic human needs, and when taught lovingly and responsibly it makes unexpected situations less stressful for all. This teaches if you ate when I gave it to you, not I'm so happy not to have that worry.
The illustrations were not creative. It seemed quickly thrown together.
Thank you NetGalley and Orca Book Publishers for accepting my request to read and review I'm Hungry, and allowing me to give my opinion.
This is a cute little book. One part The Very Hungry Caterpillar, one part A Busy Creature’s Day Eating, children will definitely love this cute hungry little monster. I can’t wait to get this for my library and share it with my students.
I'm Hungry is about a cute little red monster who is hungry and no matter it eats, it is still hungry! From a slice of pizza to a toilet, this monster will eat anything and everything to satisfy its hunger. This is a silly story young readers will enjoy that will help build simple vocabulary and have them giggling, especially at the end of the book!
Thank you to NetGalley, Orca Book Publishers and Elise Gravel for the ARC and allowing me to give an honest review of this fun book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
my 5 year old laughed through the whole book and loved the repetitive pages so she could help read along asking "what can i eat"
Thank you Orca for this ARC. As a fan of Gravel’s books I am scary, and Potatoe on a bike, I was excited to get a chance to read this early.
The illustrations are simple but colourful and engaging. I read it to my newborn and even she was enthralled with the rythme of the dialogue the monster has with itself. It’s sweet and funny.
I’d compare it to: If you give a mouse a cookie 🍪.
This silly book is perfect for goofy kids and is sure to cheer up grumpy ones too! Our little red monster in this book eats increasingly weird things until he looks through the book to the reader! You are sure to giggle along with your child! A good age for this book would be 2-5 years old as the drawings and concepts are simple and silly, in the best way!
Another adorable Elise Gravel book. Perfect for the 0-5 age group and little ones learning to read. A funny ending and spot on illustrations.
II received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own."
Very cute story, although I would eat the school before the toilet.
Kids will get a kick out of this hungry little monster. The colors are bright and the story is silly. Perfect children's book.
Except for the toilet eating, I just can't get behind that.
This silly book is one of the cutest books that talk about hungry monsters I think I’ve ever read. It reminded me of a monster version of “the hungry caterpillar”. So fun!!
I read this book to Izzy age 7. She liked the illustrations. She says this would be a good story for parents to read to babies or toddlers. The little red monster is adorable and the story line is cute.
Super silly and adorable picture book for little ones that will even make early readers laugh as the monster eats bigger and bigger things until...until she gets to the reader! Laugh out loud funny and charming, it gave me The Monster At The End Of This Book giggles. Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read early!
This will be the perfect book for little ones and toddlers with a funny surprise at the end. I love Elise's comics and was so glad to check it out. It was simple and adorable!
Bumping up to 5 because my kids can't stop talking about this book! Even my 9-year-old is obsessed!
I’m Hungry is about a hungry monster that eats pretty much anything and everything, but never gets full. It’s a lot of fun and young kids will really enjoy this one.
I read this to my two kids (4 and 2 years old). They were both laughing like crazy and asked me to read it several times in a row! They love this book!
I loved this book! I can just imagine reading it to the kids and making the book look like it's going to eat a kid. I can also picture them chasing each other around the library with the book, but that's one way to get them involved with the book.
I love Elise Gravel's illustrations. They are simple, but so cute. They aren't detailed, but you definitely believe this whatever-it-is is definitely hungry, it will eat the children, but it's funny, not scary.
