The extremely wealthy Ruby McTavish is a famous heiress, well infamous. When she was a baby she was kidnapped and after a long dramatic manhunt she was returned to her family. She was called a black widow after burying four husbands. She was the sole heir to the family's vast wealth but she remained living in her family estate, Ashby House, in the town of Tavistock with her sister's family. They are all the stereotypical spoiled brats, rude, ungrateful and the only way they haven't gone to jail is via their money. Since she had no children of her own and never wanted to leave her vast fortune to these horrible people she decided to adopt the "luckiest boy" alive. Camden never thought of himself as lucky, he hated growing up at the Ashby Home and since Ruby's death has be burdened with taking care of it and its inhabitants. After pleadings from his wife Jules they finally return to the homes as more secrets from the past emerge threatening to end the McTavish family for good.

I have read a few of Rachel Hawkins novels and have enjoyed them so I was happy to get a copy of her newest work. I enjoyed how the story unfolded both from various character povs and letters from Ruby herself revealing her dark secrets from the grave. Money truly brings out the worst in these characters but that makes it all the more entertaining. The main characters are intriguing and move the story along as old relationship wounds are opened back up. I would have loved a little more back story from Ruby's letters since it is basically the second plotline. There are a few nice twists to keep the suspense going. Overall this is an enjoyable read.

This was a breath of fresh air! It was my first novel by Rachel Hawkins and it was perfectly imperfect. For the most part, she had me guessing what the twist would be. Even though I saw it coming, it did take a long time for me to get there (which is a plus!). I couldn't put the book down! I love how she still left me guessing in the epilogue. A++++

✨cowboy like me. this book is cowboy like me in book form, minus the western imagery. the main couple starts off in colorado, the main part of the story is told in the carolinas, but the western vibes aren't there. BUT THE COWBOY LIKE ME VIBES ARE!!!

✨this book doesn't come out until january, so i'm not going to say much, but this book is structured like the other rachel hawkins thriller/mystery books. they're not too serious, can get a little dark, with plot twists secured within them.

✨for this book we follow camden, who was adopted into the McTavish family where his mother was notorious for disappearing as a child, her money, and her dead husbands. it was giving evelyn hugo with the mediocre husbands and blasts into the past. camden is married to jules and early on in the book they receive news that takes then from their home in colorado to the McTavish family estate in the blue ridge mountains. when they arrive things seem slow, but everything cooks together to a satisfying conclusion.

✨i enjoyed the characters enough, thought the mystery element was fun to follow, and loves the multiple husband angle and plot motivated by people who will do whatever they need to do to secure themselves financially. that is always interesting to me. the main thing that keeps me from giving this a 5 star was the fact that some of the smaller details and mysteries felt thrown into the wind and weren't explored enough for my liking.

✨pick this up if you enjoy the other rachel hawkins novels! i would rank this as my second favorite with 1.) the villa, 2.) the heiress, 3.) the wife upstairs, and 4.)reckless girls. i can't wait to read what is next from hawkins!

✨thank you netgalley and st. martin's press for allowing me to read this eARC in exchange for my honest review!

The Heiress is a masterfully told domestic thriller about an extremely wealthy family and just how corruptible a piece of the pie can be. One of the main voices of the story comes from Ruby McTavish, the matriarch of the McTavish family, in the form of letters. These letters detail important points of her life, including the mysterious deaths of her four husbands, providing the reader with another fascinating story within itself.

The second voice is Camden’s, Ruby’s adopted son and thus, heir to the McTavish fortune. However, because he has been adopted, he is not accepted by the rest of the McTavish family and they will go to any lengths to regain what this rightfully theirs.

Lastly is Jules, Cam’s wife. Jules loves Cam with everything she has, but she craves a better life. Having had a rough childhood, and still living less than comfortably, she craves a home like Ashby House and the wealth and protection that the McTavish name can provide.

I’m not going to lie, for the first 30% of this book I wasn’t all that interested. I had read the blurb and thought I’d love it, but it didn’t really come together for me early on. There were so many random mentions of things that didn’t make sense, and at the time seemed like plot holes. However, by the end I was COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY. Each and every part of the story is perfectly woven together with a pace that gradually increases. By 60%, I couldn’t put the book down. I had to find out what secrets Ruby, Cam, Jules, and even the rest of the McTavishes were hiding. And it was all every bit as juicy as I’d hope it would be.

I highly recommend picking this book up. You will not regret it. I’ve read other novels by Rachel Hawkins and loved them, but The Heiress might take the cake for most intricate and twisty.

This was a book that grabbed me right from the beginning. If I didn’t have to work I would have finished it so quickly. Loved the different characters point of view and there were definitely twists throughout the whole story. Loved the style of writing.

One of my favorite thrillers I’ve read recently! Rachel Hawkins is an auto read author for me, and this might be my favorite of hers so far.

I loved the “mixed media” with letters and news article snippets alongside the central plot. While I did predict one of the major twists, it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the story at all.

Such a clever and unique book full of creative twists all throughout the story. Even though the story felt a bit slow, I did enjoy the POVs from different characters, old letters, and news articles. Definitely a book that I would recommend!

Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the early read.
The author did a great job of building suspense and delivering a twist that was simultaneously unexpected and totally plausible. The evils of old money was masterfully intertwined with a breathtakingly beautiful setting.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. of The Heiress. I would like to give my ho est review. I loved it. The delightful, unassuming couple turn out to be so much more. The past of Ruby is slow.y revealed through her letter to an unknown recipient. The points of view of Camden, heir to Ashby House, and his wife Jules are also given revealing nothing is what it seemed. I would recommend.

Wow! I had been putting off reading this because I didn't feel like it would be any good, BUT this book was more than i ever imagined it could be. The characters were either annoying but there were some that were so addicting that i couldn't stop flipping the pages when it was their POV. The twists weren't all out of this world but some of them were so shocking that i gasped. The different formatting with letters,1st-pov,newspapers,media were so intriguing and made the book so easy to fly through. My review will include spoilers after the release day, but for now this will be my soft review.

Thank you Netgalley for giving me an e-arc of this book.

I will admit, it took me until about 60% through the book to really become invested in the story. I found the beginning to be slow moving but I'm glad I stuck with it because I found the last half very fun & interesting!

The Heiress is a twisted family drama involving dark secrets, murder, and money. I enjoyed the multiple POVs, and the letters from Ruby, as they helped to break the story up & give insight into the minds of each main character. Rachel Hawkins also does a fantastic job of setting up the scene of Ashby house and the vast land that surrounds it. I can definitely see this book becoming a favorite among many thriller readers! I would recommend this if you like rich people drama, dark family secrets, and books with an atmospheric setting.

Rachel Hawkins has become one of my favorites for an always go-to read, I love her work! Ashby House sounds like a dream and fit so well for this story to unfold at. I loved all the detail that was written throughout and still kept the story interesting. The POV being told between Ruby, Cam, and Jules told each of their parts of the story that eloquently unfolded how their lives intertwined to lead to where they ended up, and really showed each character in their own light.
This was a great mystery, not so much a thriller but still had suspense, some twists, and left you wanting to see how it all ends! I loved how even though Cam had been adopted into the McTavish family he hadn't let the wealth and power change him, and his character was my favorite. Ruby was eccentric and definitely wielded her power, but I think she also had a great character development to show she could have a softer side. Even though I could figure out where most of the story was leading the story was built enough to keep my interest and admire the writing until the end. I have found the way Hawkins writes so far has kept my interest from start to finish! Thank you NetGalley and to the publisher for the copy of yet another great read done by Hawkins!

Another fast & fun read from Rachel Hawkins. I was sucked in quickly and couldn't put this one down. I love a good story with a whodunnit and mysterious deaths. Throw in a dark and sordid house history and it's even better.

This one releases on January 9, 2024 so mark those calendars and snag this gem as fast as you can. Perfect for fans of family drama who also love twists, turns and mysterious happenings.

I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins is an enthralling narrative that delves into the themes of betrayal, sisterhood, and the profound impact of owning one's narrative.

This may be Rachel Hawkins best yet! Generational wealth, family history with lots and lots of secrets, a child that disappears, and the struggle to control that money and therefore the power of the family name. I loved how it evolved with multiple twists and turns all along the way - couldn’t put it down!

Rachel Hawkins is always a must read author for me and this book was no exception to her collection of works. I LOVE dual timeline storytelling. It’s one of my favorites and this book delivered. At times, characters really did annoy me but I feel like that was very intentional. If you loved Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo I feel like this is pretty similar and you’d enjoy this book. 4.5 stars for me!

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for my copy of The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins!

This is my first ever Rachel Hawkins novel (I know, I should be ashamed to call myself a thriller reader) and I am delightfully surprised with how much I adored this story. I devoured this story. It's just so well done. The way the story slowly unfolded, told by Camden, Jules and Ruby (through her letters), was just fantastic! The pacing was really good, not a dull moment for me. I feel like it's just explosion after explosion on this novel!

I do not like Ruby at all but there were moments in her POVs that made me sympathize with her but she is as manipulative as they can be. I keep picturing her like those super rich parents on TV that has to control everything. Jules, I felt she was sketchy from the very beginning. There's just something that screams red flag. Camden, I feel for him. He did something bad but I feel like he was desperate. I dunno man. All the characters are just super effed up.

After reading this, I am definitely checking up on Rachel Hawkin's other works!
