Wow! What a story with lots of twists and turns and an ending that I did not see coming. Ruby McTavish ,her son Camden and his wife Jules are the main characters in this suspenseful novel. All three characters take turns telling their stories, each one with a fascinationing back story. If you are familar with the Ashville and the Biltmore house, this book will be of interest to you as it takes place in that general area. I loved it and I will be recommending it.

I will always, always read a new book by Rachel Hawkins. This is her best one yet! Just truly fantastic and gripping. I enjoyed the experience thoroughly and couldn't stop thinking about the book even after I was done with it. Fans of all genres, not just thrillers, should like this one.

Twistier than a twizzler!

This book immediately draws you in as you get three distinct voices: letters written by Ruby McTavish, her adopted son (and sole heir to the family fortune), Camden McTavish, and his wife, Jules. Looking from the outside in you would think the McTavish family has it all. They have the expansive estate, the ever-growing family fortune, and the entire Tavistock town on their payroll.

NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS.

You're first introduced to the notorious McTavish family when tragedy strikes. Ruby, just three years old, goes missing in the mountain forest surrounding their remote estate. After a long eight months, Ruby is finally returned home. Or is she?

Ruby McTavish makes the papers again when she is widowed not once, not twice, but four different times.

When Camden returns home to his estranged family after ten years, you begin to uncover the lies and darkness that infect them. The schemes and plots all come to head when they're finally together again. AND IT'S SO FUN. I loved reading Ruby's tell-all letters where she finally reveals all those skeletons in her closet. (hint: there's a lot of them!)

I thought I had each twist figured out and boy was I wrong! The reveals come at a steady pace so you never feel frustrated, instead just eager to keep reading. Every Jules chapter had me in a frenzy! It was so hard to put down.

Read this if you like books that keep you guessing until the last page. If you love messy family drama and exploring the darkness in all of us that we try so hard to hide... you're going to want to pick this one up.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this advance copy! #netgalley #stmartinspress

The Heiress, by Rachel Hawkins, is a winner! The McTavish family is a wealthy and influential family in North Carolina. Ruby McTavish Callahan Woodward Miller Kenmore was the matriarch of Ashby House, the family estate, with several deceased husbands and the victim of a child kidnapping when she was a toddler. After her death, she left her fortune to her adopted son, Cam, who was instead living meagerly with his wife in Colorado. Ten years later he is summoned back to Ashby House and he and Jules must face the rest of his conniving family. No one is blameless. The story is told from the points of view of Cam and Jules, and letters written by Ruby. Secrets abound in this twisted Gothic story. There are several characters, all well-defined, the plot is clear and yet there are surprises at the end. I loved this book! It won’t be released until January so put it on your list of must reads!

With thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC. My opinions are my own.

I think Rachel Hawkins has made it to my favorite authors list after this. As with all her previous reads, she manages to tell a solid, well told story that sucked me in, giving me that feeling of watching a movie and seeing the scenes unfold before me. I absolutely loved the format of this with the different perspectives of Cam and his wife Jules, while throwing in articles as well as letters written by the heiress herself. The only reason this is not a full five stars is I couldn't help but feel something was missing from the ending. It seemed to make a jump, skipping what could of been a vital, climactic scene. Although explained in the epilogue, I still would have loved to have that in there. Overall, this was such a good book that I highly recommend purchasing on it's release. Four very solid stars.

Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for this ARC.

I love the historical part of this book, it reminded me a lot of the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo which was giving me all the good vibes.

I did not like the thriller and the twists are kinda boring to me.

I would read anything this author writes though

My first book by Rachel Hawkins and definitely not my last! Loved every twist and turn in this and the character development was absolute perfection. Didn’t guess a single twist, which always makes reading a thriller that much more fun!!

You guys! This book was just....wow! I read it in less than a day and it would have been faster but I had to go to work for a good chunk of time.

I honestly don't even know what to say. I knew nothing about the book going into it. I saw the author's name (I loved The Villa -- haven't read her other books yet, still on my TBR) and the stunning cover and I was like "yes, this book speaks to me."

This review is so difficult to write. It's way past my bedtime but I just had to finish the book and now I feel compelled to shout at everyone to read it before going to bed!

I received a complimentary copy of this e-book from St. Martin's Press through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you, St. Martin's Press! I will definitely be purchasing a copy for my bookshelf!

-0.5 star for excessive "fucks/fucking". There were a lot -- 94 to be exact. I use this word on a daily basis but this was TOO MUCH for me. (Number known thanks to Kindle word search -- I didn't actually count them.)

+0.5 star for this book being set in the same universe as The Villa!!!

Rachel Hawkins does it again. There were lots of twists and turns right up until the very end.
The plot moved a little slower than I liked, but it had really good character development. In the end this is a page turner.

A special thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Publishing Group for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

From the minute I started reading this, I was hooked. Between the great writing, the confessions to the reader that piqued my curiosity or the storyline itself, I'm not sure what got me more but I read it in less than two days and it would of been one if I hadn't had to work. Maybe we are all a little in the middle... some of us just a little more off-center in one direction or the other.

This was my first Rachel Hawkins book and it won’t be my last! This book took me through a story full of twists and turns through different perspectives and kept me guessing until the end. Every time I’d think I knew everything that was happening, I’d get another surprise. This was not an intense thriller, but there was enough happening that I flew right through this book! Definitely recommend if you like a story that keeps you guessing and leaves you not totally sure what to think! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

Book : The Heiress
Author : Rachel Hawkins
Pub Date: 09 Jan 2024

Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press & the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.

When I got approved for this book I squealed with joy! I love everything that Rachel Hawkins writes. This book was no different. This amazing thriller was devoured in one sitting because I could not even make myself set it down.

This book has my favorite multiple POV and they each have different things that they bring into the story along the way. The pace of this book is so fast and the layers of mystery and the twists and turns all the way to the very end of the book are chefs kiss!

I will absolutely be recommending this book to every single person that I know. My book club would absolutely love to read this as well when it is released. Going down as one of my favorite book of 2023 and course another favorite of Rachel’s. I cannot wait to see what she comes up with and out with next!!

I was asked to review “The Heiress” by Rachel Hawkins, author of “The Villa” and “Reckless Girls.”

Camden is eager to escape his tumultuous past, managing to build a life for him and his wife, Jules, in Colorado. But the death of an uncle lures him back to North Carolina and the Ashby House, which Cam had inherited (along with a ton of money) from his adopted mother (Ruby) and had turned his back on. Yet, the more Jules learns about the family and its fortune, the more entranced she becomes, even as her husband fights to escape his family’s scandals.

This novel is told from the perspectives of both Cam and Jules as well as Ruby’s letters. The novel starts out slowly, but if you’re willing to be patient, there is quite the pay-off. Overall, I enjoyed this story and its many twists and turns.

Four stars out of five.

Many thanks to Rachel Hawkins, NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's for the opportunity to read The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins.

Rachel Hawkins rocks and this is, in my opinion, her best book yet.

Southern Gothic at its best with characters you're gonna love to hate. Think you have things figured out? Boo! Bet you're wrong.

Love this book!!!

The Heiress might just be my favorite Rachel Hawkins thriller yet! It’s got all the juicy twists and turns you could want, with an edgy, narrative style. With three POVs, there’s enough varying perspective to paint a full picture of the McTavish family. I loved how Cam and Jules seemed to be talking directly to the reader in an almost journalistic format, while Ruby’s voice is depicted through letters recounting her four marriages. This book is very reminiscent of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, but with its own distinctive flair. It’s an extremely fast-paced read and I could not put it down!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

The Heiress is an unputdownable, ingenious thriller with the perfect balance of engaging characters, shocking twists, and intrigue.

Our storytellers are Camden - the son, Jules - Camden’s wife, and letters from Ruby that were written before her death. Ruby was kidnapped as a little girl, and some have always questioned if the girl that was returned was the same girl that was taken. However, Ruby’s father left his entire fortune to her, with a few stipulations. Ruby has become fairly notorious throughout her life, and her family essentially owns the town and can do anything. This power and the lack of necessity to work seems to have gone to their heads, and the entire family is overall, not a particularly kind bunch.

After years of avoiding his family and his inheritance, Camden finally returns home to help out. He is met by unwelcoming, ungrateful family members who go out of their way to exclude him and question his legitimacy as heir. Jules starts to understand why Camden turned his back on his family years before. Will Camden’s family prove that he isn’t a rightful heir? What really happened all those years ago to Ruby? And what about all of Ruby’s husband’s that died?

This is a 5 star thriller from the moment you open the front cover! The reader will be yanked into the world of the McTavish family and anxious to get to the bottom of the mystery, and to learn what secrets Ruby’s letters hold the answers to. Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and Rachel Hawkins for the advance copy!! Pre-order this riveting thriller today!

This book reminded me of Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo! If you loved that book, you will love this one! There were so many twists and turns throughout the book. I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone I know!

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the arc of this book.

This novel is very similar to the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, so fans of that book will enjoy the latest from Rachel Hawkins. This is an easy read with many twists and turns that lead to a compelling story. Flew threw this book.

I read this book in less than 24 hours. While this isn’t the typical thriller I go for, I really enjoyed this one. If you like thrillers about Southern family with a moody gothic feel, this one is for you. In typical thriller fashion is also very twisty.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
