Cute lil witchy story. I really loved the Starfall Point Island setting and all of the Ghost Characters. Fun read for the spooky season, but there was a lot of moving parts within this book that made it feel messy. Especially since the book is shorter, it felt like things were resolved too quickly and easily for the MCs in this one. It’s a fun - no thinking book for the season, but I wish we got a more in depth version of either the romance plot , the mystery plot or both.
I've been a Molly Harper fan since she released her debut, Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs, and it was nice to see her return to adult fantasy/romance, now with a witchy heart rather than a vampiric one. This series starter wasn't quite as silly/funny as the Jane Jameson/Half Moon Hollow books, but I enjoyed how Harper established another quirky, colorful small town -- this time in the U-P of Michigan, rather than the muggy South. The leads were interesting, both on their own and together, and I loved the sprawling, ghost-filled Shaddow House. I just wish we were given more time to sit with the story before the plot hurtled onwards; it sometimes felt like the characters kept sprinting through the story, and that Harper felt a need to cram more plot into a smaller space. Hopefully the next book breathes a bit more!
Thank you for allowing me to read and review Witches Get Stuff Done by Molly Harper. If you haven't read Molly Harper before she is a fun flirty and at times touching author of great series regarding paranormal romances. They are not hard to follow but it is her characters and her style of writing that stands out and this novel is no different. If you love paranormal romance or if you've never even read it check out Molly Harper you will not be sorry.
This is such a good book to read in the fall! It reminded me a bit of the show called ghosts because the characters were funny and quirky. The meet-cute had me laughing, and the town was perfect.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
This was a great paranormal romance.
Witches Get Stuff Done by Molly Harper is a delightful and whimsical read that combines magic, humor, and a touch of romance. Harper’s witty writing style brings the quirky characters and their enchanting world to life. The protagonist's journey is both entertaining and relatable, filled with laugh-out-loud moments and heartfelt scenes. The plot is engaging, with just the right balance of magical mishaps and personal growth. While the story can be a bit predictable at times, the charming characters and lively dialogue make it a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Overall, Witches Get Stuff Done is a fun and enchanting read that leaves you smiling.
Super cozy and fast-paced. I also adored the side characters, both living and dead. I love this author!!!
A promising beginning to a new series with a few roadbumps.
To start we meet Riley who is about to visit with her aunt for the first time, but when she arrives on the island she is suddenly alone with a house full of ghosts.
This book was off to a very good start with the main character and the people we were first introduced to. I wish we had seen more of some of them in the book, especially the barista and caféowner Petra. The humor is warm and delightful. Sometimes things seem to line up unrealisticly easy for Riley and her love interest Edison. The biggest issue for me was the crime element at the end that seemed tacked on and nothing previous prepared us for that character suddenly having such a potential for evil. Finding I really wish this person had survived the encounter, but it might be the perfect setup for continuation in the next installment? We will see. Will definitively read the next book in the series as I really want to see what happens.
Before I've mostly listened to audibook-versions of Molly Harpers books read beautifully by Amanda Ronconi.
This was a fun witchy read and I'm glad I was able to get an ARC. I can't wait for the others in the series. I'm a sucker for anything small town and anything witchy and this series fits the bill, especially with the haunted house thrown in as well. I'll definitely be reading more from this author.
A good adult paranormal romance, with an interesting plot!
I received an e-ARC of this book from the publisher.
DNF First Chapter.
The first 5 pages were very focused on the fact she is horribly sea sick. I wish it had just skipped that and mentioned maybe how she felt like crap after being sea sick the whole boat ride. This was a big turn off for me and I couldn't force myself to get past this section.
Who said it had to be fall in order to read witchy books? This book was so refreshing and fun to read! Not only is it a romance, but it’s funny and has a mystery in it as well. This book does end on a cliffhanger, but lucky for me book 2 is out and ready for me to read.
Super cozy and fast paced. I also adored the side characters, both living and dead.
Absolutely captivating! This book exceeded all my expectations. From the beautifully crafted characters to the intricate plot twists, every page kept me hooked. A definite must-read for anyone looking for an unforgettable literary journey. 5 stars without a doubt!
Cute book with a great cast of characters in the pages. I loved the whole book and how it was presented to the reader.
I wanted to love this one but I couldn't connect to the characters. I didn't feel chemistry so when they first kissed, I sat there like ... wait - is she dreaming? Unfortunately, this one just wasn't for me and I DNF'd it at 60%.
Maybe next time with this author!
As someone on a witchy romance kick, I just devoured this book. I loved the characters, the setting, the plot. It was a super fun read!
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I recently had the pleasure of delving into this book, and I am beyond impressed with the mesmerizing world that the author has crafted. From start to finish, the intricate plot weaves a tapestry of suspense, emotion, and unexpected twists that kept me eagerly turning the pages.
One of the standout features of this book is undoubtedly its characters. Each one is meticulously developed, breathing life into the narrative with their unique personalities, motivations, and flaws. The protagonists are not just names on paper; they are relatable, complex individuals with whom readers can form a genuine connection. The antagonist, too, is not a mere foil but a multi-dimensional force that adds depth to the story. The author's ability to create such well-rounded characters is a testament to their storytelling prowess.
The plot unfolds seamlessly, drawing the reader into a richly layered narrative that expertly balances tension, drama, and moments of poignant reflection. The pacing is impeccable, maintaining a perfect rhythm that keeps the reader engaged without sacrificing the depth of the story. The author skillfully navigates through various plot arcs, interweaving them with finesse to create a cohesive and satisfying whole.
What sets this book apart is its ability to tackle profound themes while maintaining an accessible and engaging narrative. The book seamlessly combines suspense and emotional depth, making it a truly immersive experience. The author's prose is both elegant and evocative, painting vivid imagery that lingers in the reader's mind long after the final page is turned.
As I reached the conclusion, I found myself yearning for more from this talented author. Their ability to craft a gripping plot and bring characters to life is truly commendable. I eagerly anticipate future works and would wholeheartedly recommend this book to any reader who appreciates a masterfully told tale. If you're searching for a book that seamlessly blends captivating characters with a compelling plot, this is a shining example. I can't wait to explore more literary worlds crafted by this exceptional storyteller.
Molly Harper's 'Witches Get Stuff Done' blends elements of witchcraft and romance with a light-hearted tone, set against the backdrop of a haunted Victorian house and a small community's dynamics. While the novel offers moments of charm and humor, its pacing and character development were where the book faltered for me. However, it does present a mix of magical whimsy and everyday challenges that echoes familiar themes in the genre. Harper navigates the balance between the supernatural and the mundane, creating a narrative that contributes to the witchy romcom landscape.
I thought this was a good first book to start a series. I liked the characters and the story. I thought the pacing was a little off but nothing terrible.
I love Molly Harper, and was thrilled to see her name on this book! Witches Get Stuff Done was a funny, charming, and had a handsome librarian! What's not to love about that?? I loved Edison and Riley's relationship, it was such a fun dynamic.
