I tried to read this multiple times and it just was not for me. I didn’t like any of the characters and so much of it just felt flat to me.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc ebook in exchange for an honest review.

The book has the humor but none of the usual authorial voice and quirks that the authors other books have had, even when she switched genres from paranormal to contemporary, that voice shone through but in this one it is missing. That is not to say the book was not enjoyable, the ebook as well as the audible versions are fun witchy reads with a heroine who has been looking for her passion and perfect job. It is the classic case of a young women inheriting a home from an estranged late aunt, well when she goes to the island home where her late mother grew up, she expected to meet her aunt and have answers but because her aunt passed suddenly, she is left with only more questions. She is tasked with the familial responsibility of handling a house full of ghosts, chaos, humor and some sinister occurrences ensue. Her love interest is the Island librarian, running away from traumas of his own and started of on a very wrong foot with the heroine, the romance is sweet but somehow felt like something was lacking there.

This was a really fun read and I loved the focus on her magic being about moving ghosts on, keeping them contained and that runes are used as the base of the spells she needs to use on the ghosts. Riley and Edison’s first meeting was hilarious, poor Riley was severely sea sick and Edison was hogging one of the bathrooms while the other bathroom was out of order the entire time since he is afraid of being on a boat so needs to be somewhere he can’t see the water and when he finally gets out of the bathroom Riley throws up on his shoes. Great first impression for them both. I like the world building with the history of Riley’s family on the island and how they help spirits that are attached to objects which are all over the house and that Riley is the last of the family so her aunt who died before she could meet her, tricks her into becoming the next guardian of the house and its contents. I can’t wait to read the next book since the first mystery was resolved in this book with Riley’s romance with edition but they still have a lot to do with moving spirits on from the mass of objects in the house to the rival family thought banished that is trying to break in and find these artifacts that will enslave ghosts to their will.

Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of WITCHES GET STUFF DONE (Starfall Point Book 1) by Molly Harper in exchange for an honest review. Riley Everett doesn’t have much concentration to worry about meeting her estranged aunt on the ferry trip over to the island because she’s too busy being seasick and cursing the inconsiderate person who has locked themselves in the only functioning restroom throughout the entire journey. When Riley finally reaches the island, it’s to learn that her aunt died shortly before her arrival and left her the management of haunted mansion. Riley’s aunt left her quests to learn about her new role, and the ghostly butler is willing to help. Riley makes an immediate connection with some of the island’s residents, including a romantic one with the town’s head librarian. With mysteries, break-ins, as well as interpersonal and ghostly drama, it looks like Riley’s going to be busy for awhile.

I liked this book. I’ve been waiting for Molly Harper to write a new series for awhile. I have high hopes for the future books. I recommend this book to fans of paranormal romance.

Another Molly Harper book... another book filled with laughs, a small town and magic!

A strong start to what I hope is a new series

I love Molly Harper's books, and "Witches Get Stuff Done," was no exception. The worlds and characters she creates are always so much fun to get immersed in I look forward to each new release!

Riley connect with her estranged aunt shortly after the passing of her mother and in doing so gets an invitation to her aunt's Michigan home in Starfall Point. Upon reaching Starfall point however, she learns that her has also passed just recently. Her aunt has left instructions for her to be welcomed into the family home, her and ONLY her, and a very odd home it is.
Riley quickly finds that her aunt's house is not just a beautiful home, but part of a legacy her family cares for that involves caring for haunted objects and their attached ghosts.
This was a very cute rom-com, paranormal, story (with a couple new besties for Riley that I adored) and has the potential for more in the series or some spin off type novels. Everyone needs to find love after all!

When Riley Everett moves into her aunt’s house in Starfall Point what she least expects is to find that it is filled with ghosts and that her aunt has left her as it’s new caretaker... oh and that she’s a witch and has had magic all along.... and that she might be falling for the cute librarian with a tragic past. Riley has spent her life moving from one job to the next, she has never really found herself rooted in a place, so when she is told her aunt wants her to come to Starfall Point she can’t resist wanting to connect with a family member... except when she arrives she discovers that her aunt has already passed away and that the house she inherited is very much haunted with ghosts and that Riley is a witch herself. Now Riley finds herself not only taking up as the new caretaker of the house but helping all the ghosts pass as well, and she’s finally found a coven of sisterhood and support for herself. Then there’s the shy and cute librarian who got off on the wrong foot with her named Edison. Edison has been pushing people away ever since the death of his fiancee, he’s still recovering, but when a very angry and beautiful woman yells at him on a boat, he can’t help but be a bit smitten with her. Turns out she’s none other than the new resident of Starfall Point, Riley. Riley and Edison both have difficult relationships and pasts, but if they want a relationship to work, they’ll have to find a way to be together. This was a very Hallmark-esque witchy rom com and it kind of felt lacking in the romance and character aspect. Overall, it just didn’t work for me but if you enjoy Hallmark-esque romances than definitely give it a go!

This book was a quick read that wasn’t nearly as lighthearted as I thought it would be, but still had elements of fun and lightness to it. I have mixed feelings overall.

Riley arrives on the island of Starfall Point expecting a reunion with her aunt, but instead finds her aunt is gone, she’s inherited a house full of ghosts, and has magic in her blood that she never knew about. She’s not given much information or guidance on how to manage her know home, and with the help of two new friends, Alice and Caroline, she stumbles her way through uncovering the secrets of the house. The town librarian, Edison, also comes into the picture, bringing the possibility of romance into Riley’s life.

What I liked most throughout the book was the theme of found family on the island, specifically the bonds formed between Riley, Alice, and Caroline. I also like the development of the relationship between Riley and Edison. Edison was adorably awkward early on and couldn’t help repeatedly putting his foot in his mouth. The ghost personalities were also entertaining. I also appreciated the idea of hope and finding love after loss, though that leads to what brought the book down for me.

I struggled with the overwhelming amount of tragedy so many of the residents faced. It seemed like every person had truly traumatic events in their pasts, and it brought a really heavy mood over the story for me. The intruder storyline took a very sad route that really deflated me toward the end as well.

In the end, though the main events of this specific book are resolved, there is a cliffhanger left to set up the continuation of the series. I’m undecided about whether or not I will read what’s next.

I have read a lot of this author and this is looking like another series I will be happily following along.

Like her other series, one of my favorite parts is the town that she places the characters in. This time its in a small town in the Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan - a place that is dear to my heart so this was an extra layer of fun for me (I laughed out loud at the "fudgies" - Great Lakes tourists with an intense need for fudge). The small town busybodies and town history makes it a character onto itself which I find delightful.

I think the pacing was a bit off - there are days that stretch forever and then suddenly months have passed; and most of the action is jam packed in the last section between the B plot resolution and a third act breakup while there is minimal conflict or impetus in the middle to push the story along. And personally as a librarian, Edison's job isn't really accurate - he spends most of his time coveting a historical collection rather than doing any library related tasks other than reading or recommending a handful of books (which is not really what we do all day).

This book is full of Harper's typical snarky one liners and a setting that I would once again love to move to which makes is a fun read that I would gladly recommend. I love the entire concept for the book (and hopefully series) though and I see a lot of opportunities to keep exploring this world.

This idea was cute and there were a bunch of quite funny one-liners, but the pacing was really bad--so much so that the characters were terribly undeveloped and I didn't care about anything that happened in the climax.

I have loved MollyHarper books sine the Nice Girl series. I have devoured all item she wrote, including this one. This was given her usual flair for characters and their witty snark. I’m interested to see where she goes with this series because if it anything else like she wrote, it just gets better

Light, fun, and includes two of my favorite subjects -- magic and libraries! Pretty hysterical opening on the ship to the island as Alice heads out to meet her long, lost Aunt.

This was a nice little paranormal/mystery/romance read. I loved the main character and seeing the island through her point of view. I like that on top of the romance between her and Edison that there was also a mystery that she was trying to solve.

4/5 stars

I love Molly Harper and this book was no exception. A bit long winded but a cast of thousands to enjoy. Riley and Edison are great and the girls and ghosts really made me laugh. Read this.

Highly entertaining witchy tale of making family, dealing with the families you are stuck with, and some mystery along the way - including some highly involved ghosts. Small island, small town, everyone in everyone's business, where to go to be lost, then found - and villians in hiding. Looks like the story may continue ...

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. Loved this book. It was a quick read with small town vibes and fun characters. This book has witches, spells, and love, what more could you ask for?! The perfect book for Fall!

Based on the blurb and whimsical cover, I was expecting to be swept off my feet in some magical feel-good story. Unfortunately, I didn't feel interested in what was going on. It lacked some wow factor to reel me in. Maybe it's more suited for a young adult audience.

I always love molly harper books, half moon hollow has my heart forever! They are always slightly cheesy romantic comedies with a dash of paranormal, this was quite simple in terms of plot but the characters are the main attraction for me, if you enjoy easy reading, likeable characters and a hint of spooky I recommend this or any of her other books!
