Great little book for children that gives the main characteristics of cats as well as different kinds of breeds also has pictures of cats throughout the book because who doesn't love looking at cute cats.
I had the pleasure of receiving an eARC of My First Book of Cats from Netgalley, and I must say it's a delightful resource for young readers and cat enthusiasts alike. This book introduces kids aged 3 to 5 to the fascinating world of cats in an engaging and informative way.
The book is filled with lovely pictures of various cat breeds, making it visually appealing, especially for young children. What I appreciated most was the wealth of interesting and educational information about cats, from their history and unique personalities to fun facts like how kittens are born with blue eyes. As a cat owner myself, I found this book not only enjoyable but also a great way to share the love and knowledge of our furry companions with the next generation. If you're looking for a cat-themed book that's ideal for early readers or simply want to learn more about these fascinating creatures, My First Book of Cats is a fantastic choice.
My first book of cats
Calling all cat lovers! This book describes a variety of cat breeds for lovers of the species. Written on a lower reading level and gorgeously illustrated, children will no doubt eagerly examine and exclaim over the pretty pictures of the sweet cats. While the book does not speak much about issues of the care and feeding of cats, that information is readily available elsewhere. Many beginning readers love books about pets and this one definitely fills the bill.
The book would fit nicely into a school library collection or a public library collection.
My First Book of Cats is an introduction to cats for kids. The book talks about the ways cats interact with us and with each other, a little about their lifestyle, and contains TONS of cool feline facts. The second half of the book is an introduction to different breeds and what distinguishes them from each other.
The pictures here are super adorable! If you and your child love cats, you absolutely need this book in your library! 🐈❤️🐈❤️🐈
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advanced review copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review on the book!
This was a fun book to read to learn about the various types of cats and their characteristics. I learned a lot more about the different breeds that I didn't know before reading this book. I think this definitely is a fun book for young school children to read as an informative text. I also really liked the photos that were taken for this book. So many cool and adorable cats!
If you’re looking for a cute book about cats for young readers, this may be the book for you! In this short read, you will find a variety of interesting facts about cats that are simple enough for kids 3 to 5-years-old to understand. Even though the book is simplified for young readers, it’s not boring at all for adults, especially if you love cats! I’ve loved cats since I was very young and absolutely loved reading this. I even learned why cats have tails and the tail’s overall purpose.
There’s also plenty of pictures of cats throughout the book along with short and easy to understand information about various cat breeds. I do think that some of the information, such as the general size of each breed, might fly over the heads of younger readers. However, I also think that it’ll be easy for parents and guardians to use something about the same size as the measurements listed to show their kids around how big a particular cat may be.
All in all, I think this is a wonderful book that can introduce cats to kids as well as bring interesting facts and information about cats to kids who already love cats.
Princess Fuzzypants here: As a Maine Coon, I believe it is never too early to teach children about cats. And this is a good book to do so. The writes up on each breed are simple and have lovely pictures to accompany the text. There is good information but digestible for the small ones. And as we all know, once a kitty lover, always a kitty lover.
Five purrs and two paws up.
Lovely pictures and a lot of intersting and informative piece of informatiion. Perfect for kids or if you want to learn about cats
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
I have learned more about cats in this children's book which is targeted for young audience! "My First Book of Cats," consists of realistic images of cats and their basic stats. In this book we will explore differnt breeds of cats as well.
To be honest this book is a great informative book for young readers however this is a little advance for a 3-year-olds. Perhaps for readers above 4 years of age.
This sweet little book breaks down various cat breeds and their distinctions. I learned about several for the first time from this book! The author points out their level of activity, size, longevity and coloration. She also devotes the first section to history about cats, cat facts and what makes cats distinct from other mammals. I loved the close up photos of cats that provide a visual for all the facts. The author is a kindergarten teacher and you can tell by how well she conveys information to the age group.
I loved this book so much! I am such a cat lover and this is the perfect book to give the kids in my life for birthdays and holidays to teach them about how cats live, all their many wonderful traits, the many types of cats, the many animas in the feline family, the many mannerisms of cats, etc. Just a great educational, fun, kids book with great/cute pictures :)
Thank you for the ARC!
This book is full of great information about cats. I think it’s targeted to an older child, not the 3-5 age range it says. My son is four and while he enjoyed the photos, he lost interest in the text quickly. It might be the way it is formatted on my phone, but it did read in an engaging way. The photos are great, but the white pages and black text isn’t very appealing. I think this is a fun book, but needs to be targeted to older children or less “wordy” for younger audiences.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
Review to come July 11th to blog/Goodreads (my blog is all full).

I just cannot resist books about cats, I love cats but sadly cannot be around one for long due to allergies. So books are this are perfect! Cats! So many cats~
+Love the photographs that are everywhere in the book. From cute to silly we get a lot of fun photographs and I was just awwing all the time.
+Great information about cats in simple terms with words highlighted. Under the photographs we also get some fun facts, like I didn't know that cats couldn't taste sweetness! That is so strange and interesting~
+Extra information on cat breeds from A-Z which I really liked reading. Would have liked to get kilos and centimetres though.
+A glossary at the end to explain the highlighted words! Definitely a bonus~
-A big minus though is that the book felt like a PowerPoint presentation instead of a book. One page is all white with text on it with the title in a special colour and font and then the other text in black with a word or so highlighted. Then next slide, um page, is a photograph. I would just have liked to get a bit more of a book-feel rather than a PP presentation. I am hoping that when the book comes out for real that the ebook and the physical will look better.
All in all, I did have fun reading this one, but I just missed the book-feel.
I read this book with my 5 year old daughter and she loved it!
At the moment she is loving all things cats after a new couple moved in next door who brought two cats with them, one of which has adopted us as its new friends.
The book was a great introduction to cats, kittens and all things associated with them. The book has an overview of some of the key species of domestic cats and that side was nice and informative.
The book blurb said it is aimed at ages 3-5 and I would say that it is probably a little older age range and more 5-7 with some of the wording and the content but it was a perfect read for us.
It is 5 stars from us for this one, easy to read and follow and it has some lovely photographs too – very highly recommended for young cat lovers out there!
My only disappointment with this book is that it is marketed to children 3 to 5. Why? This is a delightful, concise book about cats that is appropriate for all ages in my opinion. There are wonderful photos, little bits of trivia, and information about many breeds of cats. This little book would make a wonderful gift for any cat lover.
oh, this was very informative, in my opinion!
i requested it because i have 2 persian cats and wanted to know more about them, but this book told me much more. i didn’t know there are so many breeds of cats. i just want to pet all of them 😭❤️
thanks to the netgalley and publisher for the copy.
