Fun similarities to My Fair Lady. Elizabeth Miller grew up in a poor area of London, but her mom had her take elocution lessons so she would blend in with high society and have a better future. She uses her skills to open and run the Spitalfields School for disadvantaged young girls so they will be qualified for better jobs. She’s not easily intimidated, even by powerful men with high political standing, and publicly stands up for what she thinks is right. Elizabeth dislikes frivolous society and feels like a charity case, a poor orphan in the care of wealthy relatives, though they treat her like she belongs. She’s especially close to her cousin Dahlia Lancaster and the other members of the Blue Orchid Society.
My favorite scene of the book is when Elizabeth first runs into Lord Chatsworth, also known as Charming Chatsworth, who she greatly dislikes. He is a huge tease and thought to be a cad, but he’s actually a good person. He just doesn’t know how to act around her because she’s different from all the other young women he knows. He also loves bird watching which plays a large role in the book.
Expect fun banter between opposites attracted to each other, a strong young woman, and a clean romance. This is book 4 in the Blue Orchid Society series but can be read alone.
If you enjoy stories about strong women, Jennifer Moore’s Blue Orchid Society series is perfect for you. I really enjoyed Educating Elizabeth and getting to know these characters better. I would have liked maybe one more chapter to help the story wrap up, but it doesn’t feel incomplete. I also appreciated that several types of love are represented: romantic love, familial love, and friendship. Definitely add Educating Elizabeth to your TBR! 4/5 stars
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This was super cute and fun. It's the perfect weekend read, lighthearted and easy to get through. The characters were well written, the premise was interesting and the plot and chemistry between the characters kept me interested all the way through.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with an ARC through NetGalley. As always, my opinions are entirely my own.
I liked this book, and it's the 4th in a series so I might go back to read the others and get to know the characters I got to know in this one.
This series of connected standalones is just delightful! Getting to know Charles more than we already did was wonderful! He was such a fun character and his relationship with Alice was adorable! I loved Elizabeth's dedication to teaching the less unfortunate. My one confusion is a main plot point has Elizabeth participating in protests, but I don't really see her enjoying that in her character in this book. It all happens before and it just doesn't seem like something she would regularly do. But it truly was a delightful read!
This book was a really enjoyable fairly quick read. I liked the characters, and the plot was well written and held my interesting all the way through.. This was a clean read and can be read as a stand alone as I haven't read the other's but will be going back to check them out. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Each one of the books in this series has been a delight to read. I loved hearing about Elizabeth’s school for underprivileged girls and felt her frustration every time an obstacle came along trying to keep her from succeeding.
This book had such likable characters and I especially enjoyed seeing characters from previous books in the Blue Orchid Society series- I loved how that group of friends stood by each other.
I loved the humor that was in his book and the romance (sweet and wholesome). Best of all I enjoyed the ending- everything was wrapped up nicely.
This is part of a series, but it could be read as a stand-alone without missing too much.
I have loved this series from the beginning. The Blue Orchid Society is such a great group of women who don't quite fit in, but want to make a difference. I love how they are able to support and champion each other. Elizabeth is someone worthy of love and understanding. I love her character, especially the way she cares for others and champions them. I liked Charles too. I always enjoy getting to know a rake better and realize there is something better underneath. It's hard for me to even think of Charles as a tease and flirt, because he was so much more in this book. I really liked him and I loved him and Elizabeth together.
This is a series, but the books can be read on their own. However, I suggest you read the whole series because it is so good.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through Netgalley and this is my honest review.
Educating Elizabeth is a Victorian romance featuring Elizabeth Miller, headmistress of a school for poor-working girls and Charles Seaton (Lord Chatsworth). Although having some rough interactions in past scenarios, they unite their efforts for the benefit of Alice, a relation of Charles. Meanwhile love blossoms, while still having to overcome social inequality, misunderstanding, and self-protective hearts.
Also, that first kiss! ❤️❤️❤️ It was so well written and perfectly timed!
I quite enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more by Jennifer Moore.
Educating Elizabeth other the 4th book in the Blue Orchid Society series by Jennifer Moore. Even though it is part of a series it can easily be read as a stand alone.
Elizabeth Miller has finally accomplished her dream to run a girls school for under privileged girls. But now nothing seems to be going right. She needs to raise a large sum of money in order to keep the school open. When Lord Charles Chatsworth, a man she absolutely detests, offers to give her the money in exchange for tutoring his younger sister she doesn’t have a lot of options but to accept. What follows is a lot of fun. I love a good enemies to lovers story.! Charles and Elizabeth learned that first impressions are not always right.
I gave this book five stars. I really enjoyed reading it!
At first it seemed that Elizabeth Miller and Charles Seaton, Lord Chatsworth, couldn’t be more different. She, a serious young lady who runs a school for girls, and he a cad, flirt, and tease. But, as you get to know Charlie better you realize that he hides behind this persona and is really a deeply caring young man.
I have enjoyed each of the Blue Orchid Society stories, but this has been one of my favorites. Elizabeth is resourceful and comes up with an ingenious way to offer reconciliation and trust to a man she had once felt was trying to destroy the opportunities for the girls at the school. Charlie was great at letting Elizabeth take charge of that situation instead of telling her what to doin order to earn Elizabeth’s trust.
Things I loved about the book include:
Forest walks
Bird watching
Alice, Charlie’s younger sister
Spitalfield School for Girls
Humorous stick incident
Political enemies
School Carnival & Open House
Great friends and supporters of the school
I highly recommend this historical romance. Readers of all ages will enjoy the romance, story, and characters. It is part of a series, so I’d recommend reading all of them, but it isn’t necessary to follow this story.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher through NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Elizabeth Miller did not have the advantages of polite society, but thanks for her mothers determination, she received a good education and with the help of her Aunt and Uncle she has done quite well for herself. She now moves in society circles, she is also the headmistress of a girls school for the less fortunate.
Charles Seaton’s parents have passed on. which prompted him to fill his fathers shoes sooner than he had planned. This responsible for the rest of his family, his grandmother, younger brother, sister, and recently learning of a stepsister‘s, has put a lot of weight on his shoulders.
There is a lot going on in this book, a girls school for the less fortunate, powerful men that are trying to undermine the success of the school, and a man who is trying to take care of his family. Which makes for an intriguing and interesting read. I appreciate the authors research and detail to the political and industrial revolution at the time. It was sweet how Charles worries and dotes on young Alice. I didn’t feel a connection with Charlie, he was kind and attentive but no real spark. Elizabeth held strength, wisdom and common sense. I really hoped someone would have swept her off her feet. There was some drama, but really nothing to gripping. I enjoyed many parts of the story, but some were just a little lackluster. The series is great and I look forward to many more books from this author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Two similar meet cutes of a questionable state of dress make for a very hilarious situation.
I couldn't get enough of Charming Charles Chatsworth. His flirtations, kindness, and banter won me over from the start and as I got to know him better and better throughout the story, I only fell harder.
I love the Blue Orchid society and its friend group of strong, independent and ahead-of-their-times women. Elizabeth has overcome a lot in her life and as headmistress for a school for girls, she's determined to keep it funded and open, which requires her to ask for a little help. When meddling Charles intercepts a letter intended for his grandmother, a deal is struck and I couldn't have been more delighted with the outcome. This couple gave me all the feels, while making me laugh out loud at the same time.
Charles also wormed his way into my heart with his love of birds, as my husband and son are very much into them. I loved reading about the nature outings he embarked on with Elizabeth and Miss Alice in tow, along with a group of like-minded individuals.
Jennifer Moore's writing style is so lovely and engaging and I loved all the things with this one. The characters are congenial; the secrets and interactions are sweet; the banter and personalities are hilarious. I adored this addition to the series!
Content: mild romance; vague mention of a marital affair
Educating Elizabeth is another lovely, endearing story in The Blue Orchid Society series. I loved this enemies to lovers, opposites attract, delightful book. It’s the story of lasting friendships, a plight to help the poor, misjudging, rich versus poor, and pride.
Elizabeth Miller learned from an early age that men could take everything from her on a whim. She’s worked hard to pull herself up from her humble roots, changing the way she speaks, dresses, and her manners to become a successful woman. She’s finally acquired her dream of opening a girls’ school to educate underprivileged young women and give them a chance for success. When her school is in danger of closing, she receives help from the most unlikely source.
Lord Charles Chatworth known as Charming Chatworth is the opposite of the serious, driven Elizabeth. Like his nickname, he’s definitely charming, teasing, flirtatious, and appears the scandalous lord. Underneath his handsome facade, is a caring man who wants what’s best for his half sister. He’s seen the affects of his father’s behavior and vows never to do that to a woman. Elizabeth intrigues him and when he has the opportunity to help her school, he strikes a bargain with her to give the needed funds for the school if she’ll tutor his half-sister. As he sees the remarkable woman underneath the barbs, he begins to fall in love, but will she be able to overlook her pride and prejudice of the wealthy class to accept him?
I loved Charles & Elizabeth! Their first and subsequent meetings are hilarious, and will give you second-hand mortification for Elizabeth. I loved Charles’ personality. At first, he appears to be just another frivolous nobleman, but there are surprising depths to his character. I loved how Elizabeth’s preconceived notions of him changed over time. I enjoyed how he cared for his half-sister, sharing his knowledge of birds with her, and wanting what’s best for her. I loved the way he really listens to Elizabeth and respects her opinions. Their first kiss will definitely have you swooning.
I loved finally getting Elizabeth’s story! She’s overcome so much & I enjoyed getting to know her better. I loved seeing her open her heart to Charles. I loved the thoughtful way she tutored Alice, helping her understand she wasn’t changing her worth with changing her accent.
This series is so good! I absolutely love how each book highlights one of the strong women from the Blue Orchid Society and how they rally around and support one another. So often women are portrayed as rivals, yet in this unique series it shows the depth of friendship and support women give to each other. Highly recommend this romantic, funny, sweet story. I hope there are more books to come!
I received an advanced complimentary ebook from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided. 4 1/2 stars raised to 5.
Educating Elizabeth was book 4 of the Blue Orchid Society and its a stand-alone. I gave it a high 4 ⭐️.
Elizabeth Miller was passionately frustrated and determined to run a school regardless of the discrimination she met at every turn.
It was a clean romance that had a gentle angst with a simmering chemistry. The romance brought the best out of them and a clearer understanding of what’s most important about living. Alice was a special delight and I loved her.

Elizabeth grew up between two worlds, feeling herself to fully belong to neither, so when she meets a young girl in a similar position and has a chance to help her, she takes it - even when it means interacting with a man whom the world considers a flirt and she finds perpetually flippant. Her background taught her that men are not to be trusted, and Charles seems to confirm this, until a trip to the country with his sister shows her another side of him - or perhaps the true man behind his 'society' mask? But when her beloved school is threatened, her return to London seems the end of both the old dream and the new. Can Elizabeth and Charles save the school? And can Charles convince her that some men can be relied on - and he's one of them?
This is far from your typical regency romance, but I loved the change. Elizabeth, though accepted by society, is determined to do the best she can to improve the lot of those less fortunate, which was great to see, and I enjoyed watching her gradually come to accept that Charles really isn't what she initially thought. I also really appreciated the bird-watching - somehow it really brought Charles to life as a character, even though I've never been a bird-watcher and know nothing of birds in England. The Blue Orchids didn't come into it quite as much as some in the series, but they're a great group, smart and forward-thinking but also supportive of each other and those around them (when appropriate). All in all, great writing, interesting characters, a touch of mystery, some heart-warming scenes and a satisfying ending - what more could one want? Recommended.
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
Favorite parts:
-Uncle Eldon
-Alice
-Bird Watching
-The West Sussex Order of the Friends of Fowl and Feather
-The guest instructors at the girls school
-Spitalfields Girls' School Event
-Snow Geese
I loved Elizabeth's story! I love her determination to start a school for girls and all she does to help the school and students succeed.
I loved Charles! I love how he changed and how he respected Elizabeth when she told him she felt about his teasing her. I love how he so wants to help his family.
I loved watching their relationship change and develop into something deeper.
This is the 4th book in the Blue Orchid Society series. I have loved each of the books and I love how we continue to see the characters from each book. I love the strong bond of this group of friends and how they are so willing to help each other.
This book can be read as a stand alone, but it is so much more fun when read in order!
Thanks to NetGalley and Covenant Communications for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
Educating Elizabeth was a great read. It is the latest in the Blue Orchid Society and while it is part of the series it can be read as a stand-alone with no difficulty. The storyline was sweet and engaging, the main characters interesting and relatable. Loved the author’s note on women being supportive and encouraging in real life to one another as opposed to how they are portrayed in fiction as enemies and rivals.
Thank you NetGalley for my advanced copy, all opinions are my own.

EDUCATING ELIZABETH is another in The Blue Orchid Society series. I love how these strong, independent women support each other instead of tearing each other down. (Much more like my real life than having women who are nasty to one another.)
Elizabeth is strong-willed but deeply hurt from her childhood. Lord Charles Chatsworth happens to push all her buttons the wrong way—and he doesn't understand that. But he has some surprising similarities to Elizabeth's childhood.
I enjoyed both of these characters and how they had to talk through their problems. The drama with Elizabeth "tutor his relative in elocution" adds so much to the plot. It's like puzzle pieces that fit together just right.
The time period of the Industrial Revolution works so well in this series because long-held attitudes were being challenged, more opportunities were arising for women, and the classes were deeply divided. I feel like each of the women in The Blue Orchid Society are a bridge between the worlds of upper and lower class.
This is an absolutely delightful read! So put on your bustle, loosen your stays if you must, and get ready to read.
I highly recommend this book!
Happy reading!
I love Jennifer Moore's books and have loved this series since I read Solving Sophronia. It’s very well-written and engaging! I loved Educating Elizabeth. I thought Elizabeth was a strong character, and I also really liked Charles. Their relationship was so lovely. Now I'm excited for Dahlia’s story!
I just reviewed Educating Elizabeth by Jennifer Moore. #BlueOrchidSociety #NetGalley
