I love this whole series, but this book, specifically, addresses so many specific worries that make children feel scared sometimes! The book is simple and yet profound in how it addresses various fears. I love that the book reminds children that God is always with them, even when they are scared. The illustrations are amazing -- nothing too scary for young children, and yet, children will relate to what they see. Great job all around. I highly recommend for parents, grandparents and teachers of young children.

This book is an excellent. I read the book with my 8 year old daughter who has generalized anxiety. It gave her more of an understanding and feeling that it’s okay to be scared and that everyone gets scared sometimes. It was helpful that it gave so many different ways that being fearful can come out and can help young readers have empathy and recognize fear in others. It also gives ways of coping and managing anxiety that is age appropriate. It was great seeing how differently the wording is so that kids can understand. So often as adults, we understand anxiety but it’s harder for us to put it into words at the kid level. This book does just that while encouraging their hearts with God’s promises. So often in today’s world- there is an emphasis on teen and adult mental health and not so much on younger children, this book is just what’s needed to address the younger children. We read it twice the first day and she woke me up the following day by asking to read it with me again which is also huge because she could have easily read it by herself but it also proves that it fosters connection with trusted adults.

Michelle Nietart and Tama Fortner have penned another needed book in their series, God, I Feel. They brilliantly take the big emotion “scared” and break it down into manageable chunks where kids will identify scary feelings and conquer those fears through age-appropriate actions. Parents, don’t be surprised if you learn a few tips and tricks yourself! A vital resource for parents and schools to support good mental health habits in young children.

This is another wonderful book in the "God, I Feel" series. The illustrations are sweet and the language simple. I appreciate the authors showing the many ways 'scared' shows in our senses, listing specific examples. The letter to parents in the back is equally valuable to the book text. The authors list several 'calm-down skills' that are simple and doable for any age. If you are around children, this book is a great resource for your library.

This is a phenomenal book for those who want to explain the emotion of scared to a young child. This covers situations that can lead to fear, as well as body responses. The lesson is not given in a way that causes shame for a young child and it is accessible.
I will adopt this title for my therapy practice.

I received an electronic ARC from Zonderkidz through NetGalley.
Encouraging book that acknowledges everyone feels scared. I appreciate how Nietert models the many ways people show this and acknowledges that are all okay. The illustrations connect to the text and offer more information on situations and feelings. As this is written from a Christian perspective, the author emphasizes ways that God can help calm people when they are scared. It affirms that He is aware and part of their lives. The letter to parents included at the end offers more tips for helping children learn to cope with these feelings. A well done addition to family libraries.

Great book to read to kids who have frequent worry or fears. Great for therapy with kids. Gives kids real examples of ways he or she may encounter fearful feelings, along with how it feels in the body. Gives ideas on how to cope with the fear. Will definitely purchase to read to clients.

Beautifully illustrated book that does an excellent job presenting all the ways fear can show up in kid language. It did feel a bit long with all the negative fear examples for the majority of the book though and I would have appreciated if the positive options for dealing with fear were mixed in throughout the book instead of saved all for the end.

What a delightful book to use with children to help them identify and deal with the emotion of fear. Young children often have difficulty articulating the emotion they are feeling. Throughout this book, fear is defined and skills to deal with the emotion are taught. The pictures are appropriate and colorful and show different situations in which fear might surface. I also love that in the back matter, there is information for adults in helping children with their fears. I look forward to more books by this author on handling emotions.  #GodIFeelScared #NetGalley

This book not only helps children understand their feeling of being scared, but also helps them explore the other feelings that may be happening. It illustrates how other emotions may feel and how to deal with those situations. The illustrations go hand in hand with everything written in the book. Loved how the main idea is to “talk to God. He knows exactly how to protect and comfort you”. Great message and great story.
Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review!

I really love the God I Feel series by Michelle Nietert and Tama Fortner and the latest installment God, I Feel Scared is no different. I love how well written the book is and it is written at an age appropriate level, but not dumbed down. I love how the book goes over different facets of fear, how it may appear, and what to do about it, and most importantly that we can talk to Jesus about it.. I used this book to help me prepare for Church Camp where we are learning about emotions and how God can help us with them, I also love the helps that are mentioned as well. I highly recommend this book. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.

This is a perfect picture book for all ages—including adults. Rather than dismissing being scared, the author does a great job of explaining that fear is an alert system…and that people feel scared in different ways.

The illustrations are colorful and cute—but do not distract from the text. I like that each page is a different child with other kids or parents. I also love that the book that end a with the verse that God has not given us a spirit of fear.

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy—I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

The book starts off with the fact that God gave us our feelings. Some are really fun and some not so much. But God has a reason for everything.

For example the authors state that, scared isn’t the most fun emotion to feel, but it can be God’s gift to you. It’s His way of sounding an alarm and letting you know something might be wrong.

“Some fears are big, and it’s good to ask for help. Talk to a grown-up. Talk to a friend and most of all, talk to God. He knows exactly how to protect and comfort you.”

The book offers ways to deal with emotions: take a deep, slow breath—in through your nose and out through your mouth. Then take another ... or two! Breathing will help you think again so you can find your words.

I recommend this book as a comfort to children to understand that their feelings are normal and everyone has them.

Bottom line, rely on God through prayer to help you through the hard times in life.

I thought that this book was very good and it really got the point of the book home well.

The story was easy to follow and understand. I read the book with my daughter (5 at the time of writing the review) and she is the perfect age for the story.

She goes to a Catholic school, so the book really resonated with her and we used the book to talk about different feelings and to know that she is never alone in anything that she does. The illustrations were lovely and brought the story to life.

It is 5 stars from me for this one – very highly recommended!

God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

What a great book for kiddos that suffer from fear. Fear comes in many different forms- anxiety, depression, anger. Fear maybe a the root of many different emotions. This book read along with your young reader helps identify fear. What it looks like. How it affects our body. The next step is how we can take our fear to God. It may not change the circumstances but how we respond to those circumstances and that we are not alone in those feelings. Encouraging a bond with your child when you share in those fears, emotions, fails, and the victories.

A special thank you to Zonderkidz and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review

This book was such a good read! Especially for my younger kids. I love that the author walks the reader through their emotions, and then turns it right back to scripture. God gave you feelings, but even when you’re scared, He’s with you. This is one that we will read again and again. Especially when the scaries pop up.
