If insta-love, high heat, and a fast paced romance are something you seek than look no further than Man Hunt by Vanessa Vale. This is the first book in Vale's On a Man Hunt series, and it is a low angst enjoyable read if you are looking for a quick escape. Vale's writing is easy to engage with, she has a way of blending humor and heat that make for a delightful read. This is definitely insta-love, the hero and heroine basically experience a love at first sight style of romance. This novel utilizes a age gap, billionaire, boss/employee tropes, but none of these really create any conflicts in the relationship. Both hero and heroine jump quickly into a physical relationship in which they feel a deeper pull and connection. This novel clips quickly along, and the physicality of their budding relationship really takes a forefront. Overall, this is a fast, easy read that was a great escape from the everyday. If you do not like insta-love or a very physical building of a romance you might wish to skip this one. I expect I will pick up other books in this series when I am looking for a quick and fun read.
I was so excited to read this author for the first time but this one was just very cringey for me. Take encounters that could be subtle and sexy but instead make the quiet part be out loud is what it reminds me of.
This was my first book from this author and the first in this series! Now to read the rest of the series, I am totally hooked!
DNF at 20%.
Not trying to be mean, but imagine if Twilight was a non-vampiric workplace romance... That would be this book. Aka, a cringe-fest.
//"I think I scared her off," I admitted. I wasn't sure how I did that-since I hadn't said any of my dirty thoughts aloud-doing everything I could to reassure her I wasn't mad about the spill. I even held her hand and called her baby. I'd never done that before, called anyone baby, but it just seemed... right.//
Right, because when I spill an iced coffee on a total stranger after he eye-fucked me across the café because he stood way too close behind me, I want his first words to be "baby, look at me" while tilting up my chin, because that's not creepy AT ALL. Oh, and I'd love for said total stranger to be 15 years older than me and think that he's "robbing the cradle" when thinking about how attracted he is to me. (Sure fire way to make me cringe at one of my favorite tropes)
Not trying to yuck anyone's yum. If you liked this one, I'm happy for you. But I cringed so much I cannot continue reading. Also, a boss picking a fight with his employee (even one he's firing) and thinking he "has no choice" but to fight this man? Nope. Not romantic, just very unprofessional.
It had potential, I loved the first chapter and the premise, but writing the FMC as a meek insecure 22 year old who will follow a total stranger's command instantly because she's in dire need of love and affection is not for me.
*Thank you to Valentine PR & Literary Management for providing me an advanced reading copy of this book through Netgalley. This review is my honest opinion. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*
I could not get past the first couple of chapters. I knew the premise was that the FMC accidentally sends her boss a sex quiz, I did not know how sleezy the main character and her friends would sound. I love a good boss romance, but this is just not it. The characters are just not interesting or engaging. Even the MMC sounded lukewarm.
Bridget just 'Sixteen Candles'-ed herself!
Inspired by watching the movie 'Sixteen Candles' (the best John Hughes romcom, btw) Bridget's friend Mallory decides to make her own 'sex quiz' for their friends to fill out and have a fun girl's night out discussing it. When Bridget gets flustered while finishing it, she accidentally emails it to her boss MA-verick instead of her friend MA-llory. An easy to make and hard to take back error created in our autofill world.
I laughed so hard at how cringey-awkward it was for poor shy Bridget! I couldn't help it, it was too funny! The rest of the book kept me giggling, sighing, cringing, and a little/lot hot under the collar.
This is a fun story with plenty of steam and heart!
I am really looking forward to the rest of the series!
(I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley)
Whoa. This was steamy. It's also a very sweet love story and I'm excited to continue the series. Thank you to NetGalley for a digital copy
This steamy, spicy, not able to put down romance is oh, so good! I laughed out loud and felt as though I was binge-watching a delicious gossipy show. It is unique and engaging. I cannot wait to share this with MANY readers!
Rating: 4 stars ⭐️
If you want to read a steamy romance with a lot of suspense and spice, this is definitely the perfect option for you!
Thank you to Netgalley, Vanessa Vale and the publisher for providing me with this copy. All opinions are my own.
This was a quick contemporary read. It definitely had a good bit of spice packed into it but it just felt like it was missing something. It was a fun plot and storyline with some good characters it just needed a little more to it. Overall it was a decent read.
I received this galley via NetGalley for my honest review. Mistakes happen right? Like spilling your coffee on a smoking hot guy who turns out to be your billionaire boss? A total accident! Or emailing that same smoking hot boss the sex quiz your best friend MADE you fill out for girl's night. A completely reasonable, happens all the time, accident! Right? At least that's what Manhunt's FMC Bridget tells herself as she breaks into his office and laptop to delete the incriminating evidence. Little does she know, he's already read it....and he has some follow up questions.
First and foremost, let me be clear in that when I review a book and rate it, I do so based on what it is and what Manhunt is is a fluffy, chuckle worthy Rom-Com of a book. It's the first in a 5 (for now) part series about a small town in Montana and the first 4 books follow a set of brothers as they find love in this small town.
So yes, I gave a Rom Com 4 stars but for me, it was a 4 star Rom Com and it earned it! It made me laugh, it was ridiculous in the best way, but had some minor issues that I didn't love thus keeping it from that perfect 5 stars. None of these concerns kept me from POWER READING through the other 3 available books in this series and it shouldn't keep you either.
My biggest beef with this book (and it continues in the series) is the contradictory nature of some of the story line. Bridget has a boss that's giving her problems and making her uncomfortable in the workplace (this all plays out in the first few pages so I don't consider it a spoiler of any kind) and Maverick (the hottie billionaire) cuts that off quickly, firing the jerk boss. However, when the accidental email is sent to Maverick (the premise for the whole romance kicking off), that's fine. Because it was welcomed sexual advances, it's no big deal. That didn't quite sit right with me and the characters do discuss that very topic in the book, but it was a little too on the nose/a 180 for me.
Additionally, while I am all for love at first sight and a fast paced romance, Maverick dropping "Baby" within 30 seconds of seeing Bridget was a bit fast even for me. A little more build before Maverick was casually obsessed would have added to the plausibility of it, but then again we don't come to books like this for plausibility most of the time do we?
Either way, this was a GREAT read that I would recommend to anyone looking for a light-hearted, smutty romance series to pick up. I personally love a series that centers in a small town on a specific family, so I ate this series up and will be reading the 5th when it comes out!
Read this book as ARC for Netgalley.
I have got to say that I haven't laughed out loud from reading in a long time and it felt wonderful. Mav and Bridge are so completely opposite that they work. Going from a insecure dumped on woman to the apple of his mind, body , and soul is a welcome change. Twists that happen have her second guessing everything he worked so hard to prove to her...This is an excellent story and can't wait to see what happens with Lindy and Dex.
I started reading this and continued to read the series. It is a great read that I have been enjoying
This was laugh out loud funny, full of heat, and had the kind of swoony instalove that I am a complete sucker for. I will be picking up every book in this series, without a doubt. And those covers? Forget about it. Subtle and gorgeous.
Bridget is brilliant with math, but not so much with people - especially men. After being betrayed while away at college, she's hiding out back home in Hunter Valley. A series of meet-cutes with the head of her company, Maverick, has him on his ass, immediately taken with the nerdy, shy assistant. Their chemistry is fantastic. His read on her needs and fears was oddly comforting - it's age gap without the daddy issues, and someone who is socially innocent and needs a protector who wants to lift her up and bolster her confidence. It's one of the strongest relationships in an age gap I've read, even thought they basically fallf or each other over the course of three days.
If you don't like instant love, and I mean Love, this is not for you. If you want a guy who is immediately over the top for his woman, who makes mistakes while figuring out what she needs, and is always willing to make it up to her, this is definitely your read.
What an awesome and unique contemporary romance. One of my favorite movies is Sixteen Candles and it was so cool that this book was written as an homage to the movie. It starts with math genius Bridget accidentally sending a sex quiz to her hot billionaire boss. And then it just explodes from there. What a fun, funny and hot book! I loved it and I just rushed off to buy myself a copy for my personal library and all the others in the series! Thanks to NetGalley and Valentine PR and literary management for the opportunity to read this book! All opinions are my own.
The book was nice, nothing spectacular.
The timeline was impossible to believe. I'm fine with insta-love/insta-lust, but everything happened in a week... come on, it's simply ridiculous.
Bridget and Maverick were not particularly likable characters, they were simply okay.
The third act was insufferable, and I hate the miscommunication trope, especially when it's not handled well and only shows how truly idiotic the characters are.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing an advanced copy…
He was cute! I enjoyed it from beginning to end. I just feel like it’s kind of a typical romance book. The meet cute, but don’t get each others info… only to find out they work together.
It was insta-love, he falls first. He has a gaggle of brothers, that intrigue me so I’m excited to see where this series goes.
I’ve been wanting to read this series for a while and was thrilled to get approved for the arc on NetGalley. I really adored this steamy workplace romance; especially the age gap! That particular trope can be hit or miss for me, but Vale does it wonderfully here. I especially connected to the nerdy female main character and adored the possessive (yet sweet, cinnamon roll) male main character. If you want a funny, steamy, fast page-turner romance read, add this to your TBR today! I can’t wait to continue the series.
I loved every moment I spent reading Manhunt by Vanessa Vale. Thank you so much for giving the chance to read it. I laughed at Bridget, who doesn't double check their emails!! Maverick was the best!!! What a cinnamon roll hero,, he's like "I want to protect you, baby!!" He's a sweetheart ❤️... yeah, I love him! So much.
Bridget accidentally sends a sex quiz to her boss, and when she meets him in person the next day, there is an unmistakable spark. Bridget's parents died when she was a kid and her older sister was responsible for caring for her. She is basically a walking calculator and went to MIT, but her professor screwed her over and she left before she graduated. Now she is working as a project assistant on a construction site and her supervisor is a total jerk. When Maverick walks in, and she realizes who he is, he immediately is not okay with the locker room talk about her and fires her boss. He wants to protect her at all costs.
I love a good spicy romance but this felt so short and forced at times. I felt like it was unrealistic in that they immediately hopped in to the type of relationship that they did. The age difference was interesting and the insta-love felt like love bombing honestly. Very spicy and I loved seeing his brothers and her friend and sister getting introduced for their stories to come later.
