What more do you need from a historical romance that a steamy dislike-to-lovers, forced proximity and arranged marriage? I loved Odessa throughout the story and found myself rooting for her. It was a little harder to like Jordan, while I understood his situation I wasn't a fan of him treating Odessa in the exact way she was afraid someone would treat her, only wanting her for her money. By the point in the story where Jordan and Odessa met, I was already firmly on team Odessa. Jordan could have had a little bit more of a redemption in my eyes. I've excited to read the rest of the series and meet the rest of the deadly sins!
Sinfully Mine is the third Deadly Sins series. While the previous book in the series was a little bit of a letdown for me, this new book about Drew and his love, Hester, brought back everything I love about Kathleen Ayers. Drew hates the country, Hester loves it, and the house Drew inherits from Hester’s dead husband is in the middle of their story. This a very good enemies-to-lovers book, and I really liked Drew and Hester. There is a good sub-plot involving attempted murder that elevates the story and adds some drama. My only real dislike in this series has been that typically Kathleen Ayers stories have more conversation between the MMC and MFC, but this book, and the previous in the series, seemed like more telling than showing. This is the only reason for my 4 star review instead of 5, because Drew is definitely a 5 star MMC!
This is shorter series of my Kathleen Ayers. I enjoy her all her series this far.
This is story of earls second wife (who was formerly his mistress) and the their kids who are banished and I’ll treated by the hier.
Great start to the series …
This is story of Jonathan Sinclair eldest of the second family. His 4 siblings (know as the deadly Sins) and him are banished and live in dire poverty until Bentley the hier dies but he has left the earldom in debt.
Thus starts the story of New Earl and his rise to position along with marriage to a greedy unscrupulous Whitehall who wants his daughter wed to the new Earl. Odessa Whitehall does her best to dissuade the Jonathan by ape eating disgusting in appearance smelling of onions and blackened teeth does not fool Jonathan. They story has a few well drawn out twists and turns till finale. There is a good premise to next story that if Tamsin Sinclair the next daughter.
Well worth a purchase
Delightful Historical Romance
Odessa's father wants her to marry a title, and she will do anything to escape that fate. How far will she go, and will she succeed? Onions, garlic, and tar are some of the things she will use, but nothing deters the earl. No Flatulence, belches, or blackened teeth are sending him away. What is she to do?
Jordan's late brother left the earldom in shambles, so no matter what Odessa does, and no matter how she looks or smells, marry her, he will. The two are busy outwitting one another; they do not realize it when their hearts become entangled. This is a delightfully entertaining story with laugh-out-loud moments. I enjoyed it and look forward to reading the rest of the stories in this series. The Deadly Sins should prove to be most delightful.
The Earl is dead, long live the Earl
When the Earl of Emerson died, his first-born son exiled his second wife and children to Northumberland to eke out a miserable existence raising pigs. For ten years, his siblings struggled to survive, their mother having died of consumption and a broken heart.
Now that the current Earl also has died, the five remaining Sinclair – nicknamed the “Deadly Sins” - leave the North for London, where they will struggle against the scandal of their birth and the contempt of the gossiping ton.
Ms Ayers' new series, The Five Deadly Sins, is off to a smashing start with this first installment. Odessa's father is a very ruthless and powerful man in the ton, and as such, she is shunned by most of society. Her father is adamant that she marry a titled gentleman, but Odessa does not have any desire to do so. She does everything she can to keep the suitors away and make herself appear undesirable. Jordan finds himself the new Earl of Emerson, but with the title, he also inherited a massive debt. The debt is held by Odessa's father, and Jordan has two choices, marry her and clear his debt, or become destitute. There is only one choice for Jordan, and none of Odessa's outlandish tactics will deter him from succeeding.
This was a well-written and enjoyable story and I found myself entertained from beginning to end. The characters were well-developed and interesting and I enjoyed following their story. I am looking forward to reading the next book of the series.
I received a complimentary copy from Dragonblade Publishing and Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this ebook and this is my freely given opinion.
This is the first of a new series about the Sinclairs, an scandalous and shunned aristocratic family in Regency England. The first part of this sets the background for the family, and focuses on the elder brother Jordan. He and his younger siblings are the children from the scandalous second marriage of the Earl of Emerson, who married his mistress, their mother, shortly after the death of his first wife. On his death, his heir, their half brother, turns them out and banishes them to a small, remote, run down estate near the Scottish border, leaving them to fend for themselves with barely anything while he lives an opulent life.
Over the many years of neglect, they lost their mother to illness, and were forced to take care of themselves, learning to do what they can for themselves. Then the family solicitor finds Jordan to inform him that his brother has died, leaving the Earldom in Jordan's hands. But this is not welcome news because his wastrel half brother has beggared the estate, and left them in massive debt. The only way Jordan can save the Earldom and find a better future for his remaining family is to take on the obligations his brother left, chief of which is the marry the daughter of the man who holds his debts, Odessa Whitehall, the daughter of a man known to be a shark, who has become wealthy from taking advantage of indebted nobles, and now seeking an a greater rise in Society through his daughter.
Odessa is aware the Haute Ton look down on her and does not accept her and her father in their august halls, but is not aware of her fathers schemes; she thinks he is a businessman who has pulled himself up from the gutter and looked down on by the aristocracy for his success. But she is aware that while she may be reviled by Society, she is still chased by those seeking her swollen dowry and does what she can to put them off, including some truly off-putting habits and disguises. Especially as she has her sites set on what she thinks is the man for her; someone who she thinks appreciates her, not her money.
Jordan realizes that he has no choice but to agree to Mr. Whitehall's contract, and is determined that he will wed the chit to discharge his brother's debts. After all, Jordan thinks Odessa is aware and just as culpable of her father's schemes, and just because he has to marry her does not mean that he has to live with her in a true marriage. Ultimately Jordan plans to take her money in exchange for the title of being his countess, and abandoning her - which is just the kind of situation Odessa is afraid of being trapped in - be used by a fortune hunter, even if it is one picked by her father.
Initially he is put off by her disguises... but when he sees beyond the image she projects, he realizes what she is doing, and thinks he has the better of her. Their so-called courtship is a constant give and take battle, but they slowly grow to appreciate each other and develop an attraction, despite their lack of trust in each other initially.
I do like some of the characters in the story. Odessa is quirky with her enjoyment of the morbid, and her schemes to put off fortune hunters, and her desire to be wanted and loved, seeing as how she has been treated and rejected. I understand Jordan's hostility with the world in general, seeing how his half brother and the extended family has maltreated him and his family, and then continued to slander and demean them when Jordan becomes Earl. But I just could not accept how Jordan planned on using Odessa, by taking her fortune, and then abandoning her. It was such a prevailing thread through much of the story, that it tainted the story for me. Likewise, her father was manipulating and using her (and others) to gain social status for himself too. I did not feel the romance of the story, and was left frequently disliking Jordan because of his lack of regard for Odessa for so much of their so-called courtship.
3 stars out of 5
I think I was a good series starter book. I immediately fell in love with Jordan and the rest of the clan. The villains are really something else, you will l definitely loathe them. Jordans and Odessa's love story perfect 🥰 I loved everything about them although I wanted a little bit more spice. The story was delightful and had a great plot.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!!!
Kathleen Ayers is one of my favorites. She is able to make with laugh and cry in a book and I love this about her books. While this new one wasn't my favorite, I am so excited to read this new series. I loved Jordan and his dedication to his family in a difficult situation. I also enjoyed meeting all, but one of his siblings and can't wait for their stories.
I only complaint was that I was 30% into the story before the heroine and hero met. I like them to meet earlier and really feel the romance develop. Their romance was quite developed for me, and I couldn't really feel them fall in love, only knew that they suddenly did.
Oh my! What a fabulous start to a new series.
I loved Jordan and Odessa. Her tricks to get out of marring Jordan were so funny and he was having nothing to do with it. Very unique approach to the situation. I’m sure the other books in the series will be just as fun and great to read. Can’t wait to read them.
Tropes: Arranged Marriage, Forced proximity, Class Differences, Fake Courting,
"The onion will keep him from getting too close...” Odessa stared at the peeled onion sitting on the table beside the mirror. The smell emanating from the small, white ball was so strong her eyes watered. She took up the onion, hesitating only for a moment before taking a bite."
Hot diggity dog y'all... Kathleen Ayers has a new series out called the Five Deadly Sins and I love it. If the first book Sinfully Wed is any indication of what's to come, we're in for one helluva a fun ride.
Sinfully Wed is an absolute blast, packed with a whole lot of funny moments that will have you rolling on the floor laughing. The characters are a hoot with vibrant personalities. Their antics will keep you entertained from beginning to end.
Odessa Whitehall is odd. Fascinated with all things morbid and macabre, she's clever and cunning and willing to do anything to keep from marrying the foppish dandies chosen by her father…including employing a bit of deception…and just a dab of …onion???
Jordan Sinclair has just inherited a title that was meant for his half brother …one weighed down by debt. Faced with the choice of penury or marriage to Odessa Whitehall, Jordan sets out to woo Odessa. His plan…settle his debt, set his estate to rights and see his siblings settled. Unfortunately he encounters a very willful woman set to deter his courtship at every turn.
I can't say this enough..Sinfully Wed is a delightful page-turner that will have you grinning from ear to ear. I loved almost everything about this book. My only gripe…I wanted more. The Sinclairs have arrived…and I can't wait to see how deadly these five Sins will be.
A hilarious romantic comedy about a dysfunctional family that didn’t blend well. You have a heroic underdog Jordan Sinclair who inherits after the death of his wastrel half brother Bentley’s untimely death. Jordan finds himself swamped with debts and a forced marriage due to Bentley’s blunders. The Sinclair siblings, nicknamed the five deadly sins, have a lot of spunk and determination. Jordan’s fiancée Odessa resents her father’s efforts to trade her for a title and schemes to make herself as unattractive as possible. But then, she doesn’t really understand how underhanded her beloved Poppa has been. Odessa’s disguises and eccentric interests add humor to what is otherwise a tragic situation. If you love a strong resourceful hero who overcomes overwhelming challenges this rom-com is for you! I thank the author for an advance review copy and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
Why yes, I did stay up all night to finish this, because KATHLEEN AYERS BOOKS ARE AWESOME and I was really excited. You can tell this is going to be a great series. Jordan was a great start (pig farmer turned surprise Earl) and his siblings are so very interesting, I will not be able to wait until their books come (Malcolm and Andrew, you boys are so mysterious--you're going to be fun).
Anyway, as I said, stayed up all night reading, which was frankly surprising, because for 2/3 of the book, I absolutely loathed Odessa, the heroine. But that is what made the book pop, because I was still pulling for them to get together even though I didn't like her. It's not her fault I didn't like her--she didn't want her dad to choose a husband for her so she was up to some creative and disgusting machinations to prevent that. She was so focused, she was missing a lot of other signs, and that got me frustrated (but thanks to her totally fun auntie, we were seeing all the signs). So a lot of the book was me yelling, "stop being so bullheaded!" This is a different plot from many of the historical romances I've seen, but did it work? It sure did. Kept me engaged and waiting for her to finally catch a clue.
This is a solid 4-1/2, which rounds up to a NetGalley 5. This series is going to be amazing. I hope we see more of the Duke of Ware, too. He was a fascinating secondary character!

While this was a very pleasant and enjoyable read, I didn't feel that it contained much depth. And along with that, it had a very large cast of characters that still felt distant and unknown to me. I didn't understand the personalities of Jordan's siblings or some of the other secondary cast. I'm sure they will play bigger roles in coming books, but if a character is being introduced, I feel like the reader should have some insight even preliminarily into who they are. Additionally, it felt like there wasn't enough of the main characters interacting with the secondary characters. I can understand the unique situation that Jordan was in, but as a reader, it would have been nice to see some interaction between Jordan's family and Odessa or something beyond just a few interactions with Odessa's father or the captain. I felt like there was a great quantity of cast and events and plot threads but a dearth of quality sometimes. Despite this, I thought the premise was very entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed Jordan's character. Odessa came off a little bit naive and childish but it was mostly overlookable. Overall, a fun and light read.
Harsh words, anger and resentment follow the second family of the Earl of Emerson after his death. They are banished by their step-brother, the new earl, to a far estate to live hand to mouth. When their step-brother dies eleven years later, Jordan becomes the new earl with a mountain of debt left by his step-brother's extravagant life style. To survive and support his siblings and those dependent on the earldom, Jordan must marry the daughter of the moneylender who holds all the debt. Odessa Whitehall resents her father's obsession to marry her to a title. Her hilarious attempts to discourage a match had me in stitches. Unexpectedly, Jordan and Odessa fall in lust and love for each other, even though they don't want her father to win. A well played trope with passion and humor. Great read for the first book in the series. Heat level HOT!!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
When Jordan Sinclair and his mother and siblings were cast aside by his older half-brother, he found himself living a life of poverty. Upon inheriting the earldom, Jordan becomes the new Earl of Emerson. Yet his brother, has left him drowning in debt such that he must accept marriage to Odessa Whitehall, the daughter of the very man who holds all of Jordan’s markers. Odessa does all that she can to make herself undesirable to her past suitors but when she meets Jordan, her attempts are unsuccessful. Soon Jordan and Odessa, find themselves enjoying their courtship, one which neither had believed possible, until events transpire to change their future.
A great start to a series ‘The Five Deadly Sins’, with Jordan, who is honourable and also determined to care for his family. I enjoyed all of Odessa’s tactics to spurn Jordan, and her determination to be her own person. Putting these two together, seemed so right for the situation they find themselves in. I thoroughly enjoyed their story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this start of a new series from Ayers! Definitely look forward to more from her!
Thank you for the chance to read early!
Sinfully Wed by Kathleen Ayers is a funny book about two people who are determined not to wed. Jordan has accepted his fate, but his bride to be, Odessa, refuses to and the lengths to which she goes to get him to cry off are hilarious, as is his response as he begins to notice her machinations. Jordan and his siblings were his father’s second family and upon his death, the new earl, their half-brother, Bentley, relegated them to a rundown manor house as far north as one could go and still be in England. The place had holes in the roof. Bentley provided them a pittance to live on and refused to pay for a doctor’s care when their mother became ill and subsequently died. Jordan did what he could, earning money by raising pigs. He was not particularly kind to the solicitor who came to give them the news of Bentley’s death, although the man turned out to be a good friend to the family. Among other things he inherited his brother’s betrothal to the daughter of a man who held most of Bentley’s debts, of which there were many, and offered a huge dowry, which Jordan and his family needed desperately. He was determined to marry Odessa, no matter what. She presented him with a hilarious disguise to discourage him as well as disgusting personal habits. He refused to be discouraged. Then he discovered her ruse.
This was a totally amusing piece of fiction. Call it a romantic comedy Regency-style. Of course, things worked out in the end but the journey was fabulous. It is not often a Regency romance makes one laugh. Ayers offered the reader interesting characters above and beyond the two main ones. She also offered revenge, which is always worth the read. The plot was all about thwarting Bentley, despite the fact he was dead, as well as Odessa’s father, who was a greedy and underhanded man. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and laughed out loud multiple times. Thanks Kathleen Ayers!
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Sinfully Wed by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Dragonblade #KathleenAyers #SinfullyWed
Great book! Another great series starter from KA! This book is the starter of the "deadly sins", or the Sinclair siblings. The book is about the new Earl of Emerson, Jordan Sinclair and Odessa Whitehall. Odessa, gotta love her! I'll never look at an onion again without giggling! This book had it all, a great story, wonderful characters, adventures and romance. I can't wait for all the Sinclairs to get their own stories. Great book, great series, read it!
