Full disclosure that I am a huge fan and supporter of everything Chris Bohjalian writes. I recommend his books for discussion groups or for anyone who wants depth in their reading experience. Chris is fantastic at researching and providing social issues as subplots within his novels. The Light in the Ruins is no different. Of course, beautiful prose is his writing style and this book explores WWII through the lens and scenery of Italy.
Not my favorite Bohjalian book, but that's just because I don't appreciate the graphic murder of a person. Yes, it was needed to explain the story. So I'll just say it wasn't my cup of tea, although I felt the historical aspects were well done as was the leap between time periods.
I apologize for the delay - I thought that I had submitted feedback regarding this book, but it appears that I did not. I read it a long time ago and I am sorry that I do not recall the specifics of the book. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book and I apologize for any confusion.
