I didn't read the first book in this series, and I probably should have before I read this. However, this book kept me captivated and had my attention the whole time!
While I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first in the series, it still kept my attention and was overall well-written. I will be sure to caution readers to be sure to read the first in the series or they may be missing key background. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.
I did enjoy the Covid aspect to this novel. I felt this kept me engaged throughout the entire story. I enjoyed the multiple points of view and felt it was easy to follow. This was a great read with twists you do not see coming.
I really enjoyed this book. It was different than anything else I've read recently. I couldn't put it down! I will keep an eye out for this author's future work!
Easy quick read that kept you guessing. This double life made it hard to pin down the murder, because isn't it almost always the spouse.
Great follow up to the prequel, but could easily be read as a stand alone.
Great Novel! I have not read Adele Parks prior book, but I am adding it to my TBR list!
I kept guessing how the characters were connected and what the truth really was. The characters were fascinating and well developed, which made it easy to get swept away in the story.
I struggled a bit with this one, and I can't quite put my finger on why.
I liked the premise - two lives, two spouses. Maybe the amnesia part was just a bit too much for me. Also I figured things out long before the ending.
I did enjoy it, but felt it just didn't hit quite everything for me.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing/Mira for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you for allowing me to read this book as an ARC.
Sadly, I did not know that this is a sequel to another book and a lot of the information is based on what happens and character built in the 1st book. The author mentions that in the end. It would have really helped having that knowledge before starting this book!
While the story line was interesting, I did not find it very interesting nor suspenseful. It was way too lengthy and drawn out with a lot of parts that could have been cut down. It was very unbelievable and I did not care for any of the characters. The main partnof things "happening" didn't happen until the last 1/3 of the book and then it was too late for me to get excited about it. The author has lost me before that.
Maybe if I had read the first part of this series would I have liked it better? Not sure but if the characters were the same in the first book, I don't think it would be for me.
Two Dead Wives by Adele Parks is a thriller novel. The story in Two Dead Wives is one that is told by changing the point of view between multiple characters. It’s also a thriller that has continued the story from the first book in the series, Woman Last Seen. However, the author has written this second book as if the first didn’t exist so it can be read as a standalone thriller without reading the first.
Detective Clements is still looking into the disappearance of Leigh Fletcher/Kai Janssen or otherwise known as Kylie Gillingham. It’s been discovered that Kylie who happened to have two totally separate lives and two totally separate marriages giving police double the suspects.
As the Kylie Gillingham case is carried out in the national news Stacie Jones and her father have just returned from Paris with Stacie having needed brain surgery. As Stacie deals with her memory she watches the case as her father cares for her after returning home. Little does Stacie know the story hits a little too close to her own home.
When I picked up Two Dead Wives by Adele Parks I had no idea that it was linked to the author’s earlier book, Woman Last Seen. Starting this one off I had a niggle in the back of my head that boy does this sound like that other book I read…. Well, yes, I quickly learned what the author had done and I applaud her for it. Those that haven’t read the first will feel like this is a brand new story while those that have read the first will get a deeper dive into the case but both camps can enjoy the book which normally doesn’t happen with sequels, readers normally feel left out and I don’t believe they will this time. The story flies by and adds so much to what went on before that it was well worth the read!
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
I started this one in December 2023, got about 20% of the way through and felt like I was missing chunks of the background. So I went back to read the first book, which helped a lot with understanding where book 2 was. After finishing the first book, I picked the second book back up, but was just not feeling the characters, so I put the book back down. I finally picked it back up this week and finished it, but I still did not love it. I think it was a me problem more than an issue with this book. The writing is well done. I just could not relate to the characters or care what happened to them. I think others will love this book series though.
This book was hard for me to get through. The tone was very slow and boring. I felt like the plot was very far fetched. I don't know why I read it to the end.
What is with these plots lately there all the same and I figured it out three chapters in. I feel these thrilllers anymore are armature Next!!
I enjoyed this book! I read it pretty quickly, it kept my attention very well.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review!
This was my first Adele Parks novel. I enjoyed it, but it did not make me want to keep coming back for more.
An overprotective father has lived as a recluse until his adult daughter – Stacie Jones – returns from Paris, in need of radical brain surgery. Peculiarly, he appears to almost welcome her illness, it does at least mean she is back under his roof – and his control.
In the meantime, the country is rapt with the scandalous case of murdered bigamist Kylie Gillingham. Her husbands, son and best friend are left dealing with a confused mix of emotions: grief, fear and triumph.
But none of them can piece their lives back together while suspicion of her death hangs over at least one of the husbands.
Despite the evidence, Kylie’s two sons won’t accept she is dead and gone. They set out to search for her and find themselves in the same town as Stacie and her father…
How are these families linked and can any of them ever be a real family again after such tragedy?
I really liked this book but was very disappointed at the end to realize it was a sequel. I thought it was book #2 with detective Clements not all of the main characters also.
Kylie Gillingham, a woman presumed murdered, presents quite the investigative twist: she has two husbands. It's always the husband after all, isn't it? That is what caught my attention when I requested this book. I had no idea this was actually a sequel that would explain more about Kylie's choice to engage in her secret bigamist lifestyle. And if you forgot she is a bigamist, you are reminded a mere 24 times. while reading. Which okay, was less than I thought it was going to be, but with every further mention, I wanted to scream "we get it!"
Now even though this was a sequel, it wasn't necessary to read the first and I still understood the plot; I didn't even know it was a sequel until I was finished. Though I think if I read the first, I would have been more invested in the characters and perhaps I would have enjoyed this book a little more. This story was primarily focused on determining what happened to Kylie and not necessarily about her lifestyle. The story did, however, touch on the impact the discovery of her bigamy had on each family, particularly the feelings of her oldest stepson. He actually became one of my favorite characters despite normally despising teenagers in my thrillers/mystery novels.
There were multiple storylines woven throughout the book and I appreciated how they all came together in the end, even if it was a bit predictable. COVID does play a role in this book, which I know some people aren't ready for in their escapism material . However, I found it's presence to make sense and thought lockdown enhanced the storyline. Overall this was an average read for me and I while it wasn't necessary, I think I would have gotten more out of the book if I read WOMEN LAST SEEN first. 3.5- thank you HTP MIRA and Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was so good! I was hooked til the very end and that ending!! This thriller pulled me in and I couldn't stop reading this book! Loved it!!! 5 star read!!! I will definitely be reading more by Adele Parks!
I just reviewed Two Dead Wives by Adele Parks. #TwoDeadWives #NetGalley

This book was ok. The story follows Stacie who is living with her dad after having brain surgery where she is pretty isolated from other people. Then the story follows Kylie who is married to two men and is missing. Neither men knew of the other until her disappearance. The book was a bit long and dragged in parts.
I have spent the last few hours completing devouring this book! Then I find out that it is a sequel. I will be running to get the prequel, Last Woman Seen. I'm obsessed with the character building in this book and can't wait to dig deeper into the prequel.
Thank you, Adele Parks and NetGalley, for offering me an advanced copy in return for an honest review.
I typically really enjoy Adele Parks’ books, but after quickly realizing that this was the sequel in the DC Clements series (which I hadn’t upon request), I soon lost interest. I didn’t enjoy the first book in the series for many reasons, so it was disappointing to find out the story continued. Perhaps it will be more enjoyable for others, but sadly the book and series isn’t for me.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for an ARC!
