This is the first book I've read by this author and it was a good fun story. Marla's husband, Damon, was involved in a hit-and-run and now lies in a coma at the hospital. The story is told in four alternating views in timeframes both before and after the accident. Without revealing too much, there are several women in Damon's life who are affected by the accident, in different ways. They don't know if he'll recover and they are not sure if they want him to or not. I personally wouldn't, he's the definition of an unlikeable character and a despicable person. The others aren't much better, honestly. And the fact that the characters know they keep making bad choices but do it anyway doesn't help. You just want to throttle all of them for being so stupid. But I did love the reveal of how the accident happened. There's another reveal, but that one wasn't really a surprise.
I think it might have been interesting to see from the detectives' points of view, at least once, to see what they believed really happened. And really, less of the obsession with Damon's looks - I can't believe a female author would write female characters like those in the story. Damon has literally no redeeming qualities yet women can't stop throwing themselves at him all the time. Intelligent, mature women. Ugh. And finally losing the obsession with him when they knew all along how stupid they were being does not count as character growth. That's why I would categorize this as a breezy beach read because you can't take it seriously. It's a fast-paced story full of vapid people making dumb decisions but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy watching them do so!
Fabulous author who in my eyes has never written a bad book! This book was everything I look for in a book. It was so exciting. The plot was fantastic. It really had me on the edge of my seat, and my heart racing. It was very well written and flowed well. Hit me right in the feels! 5 stars.
No true winners, but everyone gets what they deserve, or doe they? Told in multiple voices, four women revolve around one narcissistic and beautiful man, who just can't stay true to anyone but himself. A complex tale of false and lost hope, and some unintended revenge.
Another fabulous read from Nicole Trope.
What a cast! Each and everyone dislikeable for different reasons.
Engrossing storyline which kept me guessing as the twists kept coming.
The ending blew me away!
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
My one regret is that i read it to fast.
A hit-and-run accident leaves Damon Kennedy in the hospital and his wife, Marla, deceived by her husband, must confront the decisions that have brought her to this point.
The story is a quick read with a rhythm that alternates between the three main characters and their personal version of Damon. Although I found it entertaining, I didn't quite like the characters, at some point I found them forced and the final surprise was almost to be expected knowing Damon.
In short, perfect for those looking for a light read.
I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. Even though she is one of my favorite authors, I did not care for this book. It definitely was not one of her best ones. It read more like a woman's fiction book and not much of a thriller. The story is told in parts by Marla (the wife), Athena (mistress) and Sonya (mistress) with some parts by a person you don't find out who it is until the end. The man in the story, Damon, was a cheater and it was constantly mentioned in the book. I will definitely try another book by this author but this just wasn't for me
A wife struggling to accept she is married to a selfish irresponsible serial philanderer. Two women deeply and obsessively in love with a liar and cheating lothario. A hit and run incident which leaves the victim in a coma: the police unable to clarify if the result of an accident , intentional or identify any individual involved. Chapter upon chapter unfolds as each protagonist retells from their prospective , the story of events leading up to the present. No one in this story escapes the shadow of culpability and self harm inflicted by the implicit acceptance of their situation. The latter part of the book retells events from the day of the accident with an unpredictable and unexpected conclusion as much retribution as consequences of one’s actions. Many thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
This was my first book by Nicole Trope and I really enjoyed the multiple points of view including one that we did not know who it was. The story was fast paced and interesting and the transitions in time and narrater were both done well. My issue with the book is I felt like the ending and twist just fell flat for me. It felt easy to mostly put together as the story went on so it just lost that shock effect. I did enjoy reading the story though. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
I love this author and am usually so invested in her stories, not being able to turn the pages quick enough. While this one was enjoyable, I didn't feel that pull this time and felt it a little lacking. The final twist did take me by surprise and I wasn't expecting it to end the way it did, so kudos to the author for that which is a hard feat in itself. This was overall an average, enjoyable read that I recommend if you need something quick between reads. Three Stars.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.
Wow! That was a crazy tale! Geez good book though! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense, intrigue, action, murder, betrayal, mystery, cheating, a great who done it and some really crazy twists and turns that I would have never guessed! The storyline was very interesting and had me glued to my Kindle! I will definitely recommend reading this book as its well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
This gifted author has written a cannot put down novel. The characters keep the story moving. Red herrings keep the reader guessing. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author.
I’m not really sure how I feel about this one. I didn’t hate it but didn’t think it was a five star read either. I definitely found the story to be interesting and I managed to finished the book but there didn’t seem to be any shocking twist that I look for in thrillers.
My Review:
Loved!!!!! I have read almost every single book by this author so far and I have enjoyed them all. She is one of my favorites and I look forward when a new book comes out by her. What I love the most about her are the twists at the end of all her books. You think you know what is going on the entire book then bam there is a secret revealed at the end that blows your mind. You never would have guessed it either. Nothing is ever as it seems with this authors books. That makes her books awesome to read. They keep you entertained and at the edge of your seat the entire time waiting for the other shoe to drop. You flip through the pages so fast just so you can get to the shocking ending. This book was no different then her other ones. In fact, it is up there as one of my favorites by her so far. It had everything I look for in a great read. It had great characters, a great plot and a great ending. What more can you as for? I know I sure can’t ask for anything else. I can’t wait to read more by this author.
In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
