Thank you so much Netgalley for allowing me to read this incredible preview of a book I am even MORE excited about now after reading this!!!
Hockey romance will always be my book trope of choice and this little sampler had me begging to have the chance to read more of it!!!
Everything is being set up so well and I just can’t wait to be able to read the entirety of this story because I just KNOW it will sweep me off my feet in the absolute best way possible!!!
This preview for Rachel Reid's forthcoming book, Time to Shine, includes six chapters--enough for me to be fully invested in the characters. Landon, an AHL goalie has been called up to his NHL team as the backup goalie which means he could be there for a few days or months. Landon's quiet and introverted...and still struggling with the loss of his sister a few years earlier. Casey is a star forward on the team--chatty and friendly--who offers Landon a place to stay while he's in Calgary. Casey's also a social butterfly always meeting "new friends" (read: hookups) but never slowing down long enough to make deeper connections either as friends or lovers. Casey's also has a deep, dark secret which he's kept hidden from everyone, but is going to be hard to hide from Landon.
Talk about opposites! I hope Casey can pull Landon out of his isolation while Landon helps ground Casey with a staunch friendship. I'm very much looking forward to the release!
This being a preview of the book I was only able to read the first 6 chapters of the book. It had a strong beginning building the characters so that you knew some of their personalities. I will defiantly be ordering this book so that I can finish it when it comes out.
I am already so invested!! Casey and Landon are so great and feel real right off the bat. Looking forward to the rest of their story!
Thank you Carina Adores & Netgalley for the opportunity to read a preview of Time to Shine by Rachel Reid!
Okay - I need the rest of this book, like yesterday. I had so much fun in the first 6 chapters! I'm new to hockey romances & I'm loving this one already. You can feel Casey's chattiness through the pages - and he had me laughing out loud! I loved the broodiness of Landon, I'm really interested in his storyline & excited to see him blossom on the team.
This was well written & hooked me from the very first chapter. Running to pre-order right now!
I LOVED this preview!
Right from the start I was invested in both Casey and Landon's backstories. As an avid hockey fan who loves romance, it was an interesting, as well as a fresh perspective to hear from an AHL-level player, and how Landon dealt with the uncertainty and obvious pay disparity between that and the NHL players. I'm going to assume that he's going to end up actually playing for the first team as the book progresses. It will be interesting to see how he performs.
I liked that even though on the surface Casey appears to have it all, he has his own demons. In the six chapters we don't get to dig deep into why he's so afraid of the dark, and being on his own, but I'm interested enough to find out more.
I will definitely be reading this book!
This was such a joy to read! I was immediately rooting for the characters. Casey and Landon are the sweetest boys ever; I wanted to pluck Casey from the pages and give him a mug of hot chocolate and a big hug.
The dialogue is hilarious and I laughed out loud so many times while reading this preview. I can't wait to see how much I laugh with the rest of it because I will DEFINITELY be buying a copy when it comes out!
Please do yourself a favor and check this book out!
I only read the first few chapters so far and honestly immediately ran out to preorder this book! The writing is amazing and the characters are deeply relatable and sort of flawed in the best way possible! I can’t wait to read the rest!
I loved this preview and it really drew me in! Landon and Casey are both immediately likeable characters in their own ways and I am very excited to see how the love story unfolds. I personally connected more with Landon immediately, as a quieter person, but I know so many people like Casey so it really helped the story come to life for me. I can’t wait to see where it goes.
The cover of Time to Shine immediately drew me in and I was excited to read the preview. I was definitely not disappointed. This 6 chapter sample provided ample context and a great introduction to the two main characters: Lawson and Casey. This is a MM hockey romance. Lawson is brought onto the team after another player is injured and comes across very shy and closed off but still passionate about hockey. He is introduced to Casey as if they’d been friends for years and Casey’s character was just golden retriever energy straight away.
I went and requested the full book within the first couple of chapters and fingers crossed. I get the chance to read it because this was a great introduction. I will definitely to looking at Rachel Reid’s other books!
***Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this copy in exchange for a review***
(Disclaimer: I was only provided with the first 6 chapters of the book.) I loved this!! I haven't read very many sports romances, but this was so easy to get into. The characters were interesting and dynamic, and I definitely wanted to keep reading. I found myself smiling and really getting into the story and will absolutely be picking it up when it comes out.
This is only a preview and it certainly got me invested! Now I want to read the rest of the book. It's amazing but it only 6 chapters it made me feel so many emotions! I'm excited to read more about Landon and Casey.
I have read the first 6 chapters as a preview.
I really enjoyed the characterization. The two main characters Landon and Casey are interesting and well written. They are not just your 'typical jocks'. The book skips over the actual hockey matches but does include scenes from hockey practice. I think I would have liked more of thr actual games included so hopefully that is included in the rest of the book.
This was SO cute and such a fun preview/sneak peak!
I need the full story now! Casey and Landon are cute. I love Rachel's writing and her characters. I am going to preorder this one for the cover alone!
While nothing and no one will ever replace Shane and Roz in my heart as my favorite couple, after the 6 chapter sample I’m in love with Landon and Casey. I already know I’m going to be a real problem when this book comes out. Rachel Reid’s new hockey romance proves why she is the absolute queen of the genre. Many people (myself included) were hoping for a 7th game changer book, but this sample is making me eat my words.
Now how do I get ahold of the rest of the book like yesterday because I honestly don’t know how I’m going to survive the wait.
Just read the first six chapters of Time to Shine by Rachel Reid and I am excited for September! Rachel has a solid track record for hockey m/m romance. One thing I really like about this one is that Casey doesn’t just fit perfectly into a romance hero box—he deals with anxiety, that’s not that unusual, but he does it in this unusual package of being: friendly, bubbly, generous, not very tall and with self perceptions of sometimes being dumb or “too much”. He’s charming and I can’t wait to see how his sunshine and Landon’s stoicism go together.
Brace yourselves, because this novel is a fast-paced game of hockey that will leave you breathless, yearning for more!
From the first puck drop in Chapter 1, I was immediately captivated by the raw intensity and passion that surged through the pages. The chemistry between the two main characters, Alex and Mitch, crackled like a live wire on the ice. Their interactions were a rollercoaster of emotions, from fiery clashes to stolen glances that sent shivers down my spine.
Reid's writing style is a power play, combining heart-pounding action with heart-wrenching emotions. Just like a skilled player maneuvering through defenders, she weaves together the exhilarating hockey scenes with the tender moments that made my heart melt. The way she describes the game is nothing short of artistry, making every slap shot and body check come alive with palpable energy.
Chapters 1-6 left me on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating what's to come. The anticipation, much like the build-up before a decisive penalty shot, is almost too much to handle. I NEED to know what happens next! Will Alex and Mitch's undeniable attraction ignite into a blazing romance? Will they overcome their differences and find solace in each other's arms?
The sizzling tension between these two characters is like a charged power play, ready to explode into an unforgettable love story. Reid has created characters so rich and vibrant that they feel like real people, cheering them on as if they were battling it out in the Stanley Cup finals.
In the spirit of an electric game of hockey, "Time to Shine" scores a hat trick with its compelling plot, well-crafted characters, and a romance that burns hotter than a Zamboni's exhaust. I eagerly await the opportunity to preview the rest of this sensational novel because, just like a true hockey fan, I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS! The final buzzer can't come soon enough!
So grab your jerseys, lace up your skates, and get ready for the ultimate showdown. "Time to Shine" will leave you breathless, yearning for more, and desperate for that overtime victory of love. Rachel Reid, you've scored the winning goal with this one!
I cannot wait to read the whole thing! I loved Shane and Ilya from Reid’s Game Changers series, and I’m already loving this grumpy/sunshine pair. I can already tell I’m going to find this so funny and heartbreaking and everything in between.
The preview was good and set up good expectations for the rest of the story. I would love to read the rest and see how it turns out.
This excerpt is a fabulous introduction to Time to Shine by Rachel Reid. It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of MM hockey romances, and this book looks like it will be another great one. Quiet goalie Landon and outgoing, intriguing Casey have all the hallmarks of interesting characters who have a lot going on underneath the surface. But what ultimately brings these opposites together? I can’t wait to read the rest of their story!
