This is a story about a hippie mother and her daughter. Violet runs a startup business and has her first client who is hosting a trade association conference in the small town of Millersville. There is word of a protest about to begin but the police and the mayor don't believe there will be any problems. Daisy becomes the voice of the peaceful protest and it's anything but. Soon chaos ensues and the little protest becomes a riot rife with looters, fires and destruction. It's a tension building story and one of love and admiration from both mother and daughter. Tho they have different beliefs and values there is respect for each other. It is an engrossing story and I would recommend it.

This book, by Susan Specht Oram, is based on events we see on the nightly news. It truly reflects the current state of division in our society.

Violet is the owner of a security company, Outrigger Services, in the sleepy town of Millersville, Washington. Her first client is Bettermed, a tech company who services the medical industry. Outrigger is hired to provide security for an upcoming conference of trade members, hosted in Millersville.

What Violet discovers is that her mother, a peace loving, environmental activist will be participating in a protest rally during this conference.
Despite all reasonable expectations of a peaceful March, the protest turns ugly when anarchists join the fray.

Similar to current events, the author describes the struggle we face from crowds on opposite sides, and the havoc that ensues, without regard for people and property.

This book flowed well, was easy to read and very relatable, without bias!

This book was not what I was expecting and, although I finished it, I didn't really enjoy it.

The Mother's Threat: A novel by Susan Specht Oram.
Violet Cleveland’s mind is running on high alert. Used to tough challenges, the ex-covert-ops leader worries about keeping her unstable hippie mom in line while opening a security business. And just as she lands a make-or-break protection detail, her parent’s evasive comments about an upcoming trip trigger a loud alarm bell.
A good read. I liked Violet. 4*.

This book wasn't what I'd expected and definitely not a gripping thriller.

The story explores a complex mother/daughter relationship, however I found it difficult to care for the characters as they, particularly Violet, were so irritating!

Violet is portrayed as the head of a new security company, however she wasn't believable as an experience professional and didn't seem to really do much! The lack of interest from the police and the mayor was unrealistisic.

The Mother's Threat was an ok book but sadly not for for me.

This book opens up lots of topics for discussion, how to protest effectively, how to deal with mothers and daughters or family members being on opposite sides of an issue. Who gets hurt when a protest goes wrong, innocent bystanders, small businesses, and when a few want the protest to be more destructive when they are protesting destruction by big business.

This book was ok, a somewhat simplistic approach to issues of protesting big business and climate change. It primarily took place over a few days large protest, Violet who was the head of a new security company is working for the big business. She was not very believable as someone skilled in high level security and the conflict with her mother as one of the leaders of the protest was also over simplified. Fast read but not a favorite for me
