As always, Buzz Books is a fantastic resource to find out what's coming in publishing. I'm looking forward to Rosie Dana's newest and was happy to see a new Venezuelan author featured.

This was a really unique look into what’s up and coming in the romance world!

Oddly enough, I hadn’t heard of a lot of these authors. These were enjoyable glimpses, and there’s a few stories I’m looking forward to. Especially My Roommate is a Vampire!! I’d love to see more diversity and queer rep, but this was nice.

The Buzz Books 2023: Romance booklet is a great resource for upcoming releases. It highlights and gives excerpts of 14 upcoming releases from such authors as Mary Jo Putney and Kylie Scott to newcomers. The books will be available on NetGalley for request to review.

I found several books that I am going to request and hopefully be able to review. I hope to find more of these kind of preview booklets in the future.

In order of how excited I am for each book based on their previews:
1.) Do Your Worst by Rosie Danan: Danan never does any wrong and I'm already in love with Riley's fearlessness. The plot is shaping up to be reminiscent of "Emily Wilde's Encyclopaeadia."
"Good whiskey tasted like indulging in bad decisions- the same satisfying burn."
2.) The Once and Future Fling by Leigh Headey: The first few chapters were so laugh-out-loud funny and just insanely GOOD. I'm distraught that I can't read it all right now. It started with such an engaging scene that left me with questions. I was dying to keep reading.
"While media might have been time sensitive, 'The Girl from Ipanema' was forever, apparently."
3.) The Last Days of Lilah Goodluck by Kylie Scott: Started off iffy, but once the plot took off...it really took off, like a fast-paced domino effect. I loved watching the main character's life fall apart within a few chapters!
4.) Silver Lady by Mary Jo Putney: The tiny hint of fantasy was so *chef's kiss* and the preview left on a cliffhanger that has me ready to preorder.
5.) My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine: Too much dialogue to start, but the vamp's formal emails saved it. I worry that the full book will quickly lose steam-- the first few chapters failed to keep me engaged.
6.) The Kiss Countdown by Etta Easton: The chemistry between Amerie and Vincent was fireworks-worthy right off the bat, BUT everything else was...bad. From the run-in with the ex, to how obsessed with her parents marriage Amerie is, to the clunky "telling" rather than "showing." The clunkiness does dissolve near the end of the preview.
7.) The Emperor and the Endless Palace by Justinian Huang: There's no world in which this is a romance. It reads like literary-- if it got a significant clean up. There's so much filler (phrases like "yet," "and if," "it turns out," "Needless to say," "back then.") that it bogs it down and makes it boring as hell to get through. It has potential, though.
"A rumor spread like summer mold through the endless palace."
8.) Earls Trip by Jenny Holiday: There's some potential there. The introduction of the Morgans was long-winded and the dialogue is bogged down by overexplanation-- show, don't tell. But the storyline is intriguing enough to save it.
9.) The Good Ones are Taken by Taj McCoy: The beginning at the bar was so punchy and good. "A wide smile bright enough for a toothpaste ad." If She's going to fall in love with Garrett, why are we so focused on her other friends? Immediate points off for one of the friends being a cop's daughter. Barf. Read the room.
10.) Stars in Your Eyes by Kacen Calender: The writing is so bad, but the story is already shaping up to be SO GOOD. I'm a sucker for famous people romance, so I'm almost willing to give it a chance. The table read scene saves it from how infuriatingly corny Mattie is, with his "My big secret is that I still have stagefright."
11.) What Happens on vacation by Jo Watson: I think I might hate workplace romance, but their arguments were actually really fun.
12.) Love of My Lives by Yamile Saied Merdez: Jayden is too much of a bozo for us to be so focused on him. It's a cool concept, but the execution is pretty bad.
13.) As Long as You Love me by Marianna Leal: Wow, this was bad. "I glared over at my nemesis of almost four years, Gabriel Cabrera." The stakes are high, but the tone is cutesy and the writing is flat.
14.) Wildlife by Opal Wei: I'm sorry but this is so unbelievably boring. I just...did not care at all about these characters and their horrific dialogue.

Usually I love the books they highlight in Buzz Books. The subjects authors are writing about these days just do not appeal to me anymore. I didn't request any of these except for one. Oh well, not every book is for everyone, but it seems to me authors are writing for one specific group. I usually request at least ten of the books that offer a link. This makes me sad.

I was very excited to read Buzz Books 2023: Romance. It is always a delightfully dangerous experience for my TBR pile! I really enjoyed the sampler of Stars in Your Eyes (Kacen Callender) and Do Your Worst (Rosie Danan). I enjoyed Kacen Callender's YA books and am excited to read their adult romance. Rosie Danan is one of my favorites and the premise sounds excellent. I also need to read Love of My Lives (Yamile Saied Méndez); I loved her YA debut. I was intrigued by My Roommate Is A Vampire (Jenna Levine); I was intially drawn in by the beautiful cover. I can’t wait for them to be released so I can read the full stories! Thank you so much to Publishers Lunch Buzz Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read the sampler in exchange for honest feedback.

So excited to see these excerpts! It looks like there are some great releases ahead--and although most were contemporary, I was happy to see some non-contemporary books in the mix.

I absolutely love getting a sneak peek at the hottest (she's spicy!) upcoming reads! Berkley releases are always on my radar, so I'm glad this collection included two Berkley selections. I added My Roommate Is a Vampire and Wild Life to my 2023 reading list.

This edition of Buzz Books Romance is out now and, even better, it is free. Anyone who reads (or is thinking about reading) in this genre, should give this title a look. There are fourteen generous excerpts from upcoming publications here. Prospective readers can see the books’ covers, learn about the authors, read a summaries and then try out the titles. Perfect.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Buzz Books for this title. All opinions are my own.

Thanks to #NetGalley as always for these Buzz Books year after year and season after season. I always enjoy perusing the lists and see what books I want to read and what authors I will discover..

I always welcome the opportunity to have a sneek peek at the future releases and sample the first chapters before I buy. Nothing here to tempt me at the moment as romance is not really my genre but lots of goodies for romance fans.

A catalogue of prepublication book excerpts from 15 amazing authors like Kennedy Ryan, Scarlett St.Clair and Abby Jimenez.

All excerpts contain 1 to 2 chapter of one of their upcoming books!
