I really enjoyed No One Can Know by Kate Alice Marshall, I think it may be my favorite by her yet. It was the perfect whodunnit murder mystery, in a small town setting, where practically anyone could be guilty. The suspense was literally killing me. I thought I had it figured out, but the twists were so good!! This was told from the points of view of three sisters who grew up in an abusive household with wealthy and well known parents. I loved the dual timelines telling the story of their upbringing and their parent’s murder, and how the double homicide was still unsolved 14 years later, when Emma moves back into the home where it all happened. I was hooked from the beginning, even though some parts were a little difficult because I felt for Emma, and the example of how the people in someone’s life can break them. Thank you to NetGalley, and Flatiron Books for the ARC. This review is voluntary and my own.

This was so good. It was creepy, twisty, and interesting. I felt for our protagonist. She's been blamed for years for the death of her parents and she honestly can't explain what happened or why they've died. I loved the ending.
It was wonderful.

SYNOPSIS:
“This book is about three sisters, two murders, and too many secrets to count. Emma hasn't told her husband much about her past.
He knows her parents are dead and she hasn't spoken to her sisters in years. Then they lose their apartment, her husband gets laid off, and Emma discovers she's pregnant-right as the bank account slips into the red. That's when Emma confesses that she has one more asset: her parents' house, which she owns jointly with her estranged sisters. They can't sell it, but they can live in it. But returning home means that Emma is forced to reveal her secrets to her husband: that the house is not a run-down farmhouse but a stately mansion, and that her parents died there. Were murdered. And that some people say Emma did it. Emma and her sisters have never spoken about what really happened that night. Now, her return to the house may lure her sisters back, but it will also crack open family and small-town secrets lots of people don't want revealed. As Emma struggles to reconnect with her old family and hold together her new one, she begins to realize that the things they have left unspoken all these years have put them in danger again.”

This book was a wild ride! It is full of twists, turns, and a whole bunch of family lies. It had me hooked from the beginning. It bounces around between POVs and multiple timelines. So that does get hard to follow at times but it still all flows well together. This book kept me intrigued from the first page!

If you are a thriller lover, add this one to your TBR! I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

If you haven’t read anything by Kate Alice Marshall, you should! Her writing has an edginess and atmosphere that I love but her characters, well, I’m never quite sure I should fully trust or even like them but I find myself rooting for them, just the same.

In No One Can Know, she examines the dysfunctional relationship between three sisters who’ve been estranged for 15 years since the brutal murder of their parents.

Emma, married now and soon to be without a home, moves into the family estate, the scene of her parents’ unsolved murder. Emma’s then forced to tell her husband the whole truth – that people in her home town think that she’s the one who murdered them.

Emma’s return has made more than one person nervous and will unwillingly bring all three of the sisters back together again. One thing is for certain, there are a lot of secrets being kept by Emma and her sisters. Secrets between them and secrets from each other. How this all plays out is a brilliant telling in different POV’s, past and present.

Clever and quickly paced, this suspenseful thriller has all the hairpin twists I could dream of.

🎧Karissa Vacker narrates this superbly; every character with a distinct tone and nuance. She is a favorite and made listening to this an absolute joy. Bravo and well-done, Karissa!

NO ONE CAN KNOW by Kate Alice Marshall is a fantastic suspense that looks like it was brought out early for any of you BOTM subscribers!

⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

Three sisters are estranged years after their parents' brutal murders. Each has questions about that night. Each has secrets about that night. When Emma, the youngest sister, has to return to the house due to life with her husband Nathan making a downward turn, her presence stirs up more than her sister's suspicions.

I really don't want to say too much. This is a really good mix of dark family drama and suspense. I was so involved in the sisters recollections of that night, appreciating the headings of each chapter as the now or then. I paired the digital book with the audiobook, which is becoming my favorite! (The audio is narrated by Karissa Vacker who is one of my favorite narrators! I think her voice is like silk and she did the sisters well with the rising tensions, suspicions, and fear.)

Overall, I really enjoyed seeing the development of the sister's relationships. The small town suspicions of Emma fed the underlying weight of the story, as did her relationship with her husband. The flashbacks of the girls' childhood added to the growing angst. The ending was also one that I really enjoyed!

Thank you to @netgalley @macmillan.audio & @flatiron_books for this suspenseful thriller and letting me share my thoughts! This title will be published for all us non BOTM people on January 22nd or possibly sooner?!

No One Can Know follows three sisters in the past and present as they deal with the murders of their parents and the secrets they’ve all been keeping from each other.

Emma and her husband have moved back to Emma’s hometown fourteen years after her parents were killed. This is the first time she had been reunited with her sisters since the murders. The local police have always suspected that Emma was the one who murdered her parents, so she had to deal with their suspicion as she and her sisters confront the past.

This was a solid thriller that kept me guessing about what exactly had happened right up until the last chapter.

Thank you NetGalley, Flatiron Books, and Kate Alice Marshall for the advanced copy of No One Can Know in exchange for my honest review.

Marshall strikes again! I could not put this book down. I loved that we got alternating point of view chapters that also jumped around the timeline. Sometimes this can get confusing but I thought it was executed very well in this case.

Towards the end I did get a little confused about what *actually* happened the night the parents were murdered, but I did eventually get it figured out.

There were definitely twists I didn’t see coming which I can always appreciate in a thriller. Can’t wait to see what Marshall comes up with next!

What a twisty story that had me flying through to the end to see how it turned out!

Emma and her husband Nathan are losing their apartment, their bank account is in the red, and they find out they have a baby on the way. She confesses that her family has a large home that she shares with her estranged sisters, and they can go back to her hometown to live. The house is also where her parents were murdered, and she was the prime suspect… Will moving back home expose secrets of the past?

This story was full of so many twists, secrets, and angst throughout, that it had me guessing until the very last page! I love her way of telling a story, and loved the jumps from past and present to piece together the entire picture. Would highly recommend!

Thank you NetGalley and Flatiron for my ARC, in exchange for my honest feedback.

My problem with this book was that in an effort to be unique the author put 19 plot twist at the end. Half of the people in the novel are like “It was me I killed him” and you don’t know the whole truth until the epilogue. At some point it was just ridiculous, literally 4 people were blamed for the same crime in like 5 chapters. However, it was still interesting and well written, the ending was just like a bad soap opera in my opinion.

2.5-3 stars

I really enjoyed What Lies In The Woods so I was excited to read this, but unfortunately it was somewhat of a miss for me.

The first 3/4 of the book really dragged. Between the different POVs and dual timelines, it just seemed like the story wasn’t moving forward much.

I was originally excited to read a story about 3 sisters and wish their relationships and personalities had been developed more.

So much happens in last part! Twist after twist, and it was hard to keep up. I did enjoy the last chapter and wrap up of the book.

Thank you to NetGallry and Flatiron Books for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was a solid mystery/thriller. It started off slow but the second half flew by. There are A LOT of secrets being kept in this book. So many that I actually started getting numb to it. I would recommend to people who love mysteries and thrillers, but I wouldn't say it brings anything new or earth shattering to the table. I was satisfied with the ending.

The storyline was all over the place in this book, which made it confusing to follow and stay engaged. I didn't connect with the characters, and there was just too many of them. The twist was predictable. Just "meh" overall.

I'm very thankful to Macmillan Audio, Flatiron Books, Kate Alice Marshall, and Netgalley for the advanced physical, digital, and audio access to this twisty flashback thriller before it's projected to hit shelves on January 23, 2024.

14 years ago, the Palmer sisters, Emma, Juliette, and Daphne, found themselves in a sticky situation as their parents were murdered execution-style in their family home. The blame was ultimately placed on Emma for she had the most motive at the time, but flash forward to present day and Emma and her new husband (with baby on the way) have returned to clean up and sell the home for profit. This return home has brought upon a series of gossiping and vandalism for the whole town still ardently believes Emma is to blame, but boy oh boy are they so very misguided.

JJ (Juliette) and Emma bind together to learn that their seemingly perfect family had more nefarious intentions all those years ago, involving themselves shady business and extramarital affairs that lead to their untimely demise, but still who is to blame other than one of the girls? The twist will get ya, and while I totally saw it coming, I feel many would still enjoy this book's narrative and plot.

Kate Alice Marshall is officially an auto-buy author for me now. This book was so good! The dual timelines were used perfectly and I love how twisty the ending was. I stayed up late last night to finish it and I have no regrets. Marshall is a master storyteller! (It doesn’t come out for a month or so, but if you have BOTM, you can get it now.)

This book was a bit on the predictable end for me. I enjoyed it nonetheless but I still was able to detect where the story was going fairly easily. Twists were very much anticipated but still effective. First read of mine of this author and I would read her again. 4/5 stars.

As a thriller lover, I was fully invested in this story from the get go. The author intentionally gave us just enough information to reveal parts of the past, but not quite enough to form a true theory about the actual murders. Of course as time went on, we learn more and start to question who to believe. The pacing was perfect, the ending was satisfying, and I’ve been thinking about it even after finishing the book. The only reason I didn’t rate it 5 stars was because I began to get confused due to the amount of characters from the past and found it hard to keep track of all of them,

This was my first book by Kate Alice Marshall, but I’ll certainly be reading more of hers soon!

This book revolves around Emma. She is one of three sisters in the Palmer family. Their parents were murdered in their childhood home and Emma was thought to be the primary suspect. She was never brought to trial, it was all conjecture on the police’s part. However, the town treated her like a murderer and shunned her. The three sisters have been estranged since the night of their parents murders. Emma has always felt abandoned and unloved because of it. She is now married to Nathan and just finds out she is pregnant - at the same time Nathan tells her he has lost his job. They are forced to move back to that childhood home so they will have a place to live. They soon find the town still thinks of Emma as a criminal and the house is vandalized and Emma keeps experiencing police harassment by the same policemen who tried to pin the murders on her when she was younger. Emma has never told her husband all the details of her past, he knows her parents are dead but doesn’t know how they died, or how Emma was the main suspect. Emma realizes she must face the past and try to figure out what happened that night and who was responsible for her parents’ murders. The three sisters have kept silent on the events of that night all these years and “protected” one another., now Emma is determined to find the truth and possibly clear her name so she can live in peace. The story is suspenseful and has a few twists and keeps you drawn into finding out the truth. The characters are well written, not all are likable, but that’s to be expected. I thought the ending was good, but it had a little too many extra twists that made it a bit jumbled. All in all, I enjoyed the book a lot and recommend this book if you like family mysteries. I give the book 4 stars out of 5.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book is set to be published in January, 2024.

Do you believe your family is messed up? Well, you have not been properly introduced to the Palmer family. The family that has it all. A life everyone dreams of, money, three gorgeous daughters, everyone should be jealous of what they have. Once you open the front door and step over the threshold all that facade crumbles. Anger, tension, and greed lead to all three girls trying to hold onto themselves. Wishing they could be seen and loved as they are. Not some shiny object that must always be on display no matter who is around. The curtain falls one night, as the silence explodes with the sound of gunshots. The three girls are the only ones left alive. Emma is the one who takes the fall for her two sisters. Never telling anyone what occurred, not actually knowing herself what happened. All left up in the air but knowing her sisters could not take the fall...

Emma is pregnant. She wants to shelter and hold on to her belly, protecting it from everything and anything. Nathan breaks the news he has been laid off. Where are they going to go? They have no money, the last of their savings going to the loan that was supposed to buy their new home. Emma opens her mouth and offers up her family's house. Her and her sisters own it jointly, but they could live there. None of the girls have been back to the house since that horrific night that took their parents. No one in the town of Arden Hills has forgotten that Emma was probably the one who murdered them. The hostile stares, police visits, the comments, will it be too much for Emma?

I loved this book! It is one that made me think I had it all worked out, but I did not. It flings you between Then and Now. Giving you bits and pieces of the story through the three sisters. Giving you enough information to have you running in one direction, until the next chapter's details have you going in another. Thank you to Kate Alice Marshall and Flatiron Books for my copy of this dark family drama!

If you enjoy a good mystery, be sure to pick this up in January. It is not my first by this author but I think this is her best. I enjoyed the family aspect. I enjoyed the alternating chapters of past and present and the story kept me guessing until the very end.
