Thank you, NetGalley, for an advanced copy of “No One Can Know” in exchange for my review.

I’ll start by saying, 2.5 ⭐️ rounded up to 3. For some reason, this book had a hard time holding my attention. I didn’t connect with any of the characters, and there were a lot of twists in this whodunnit than necessary. It just didn’t stand out to me, and wouldn’t be a thriller I’d recommend with so many other stellar titles out there.

No One Can Know takes you on a ride where everyone has secrets and everyone has something to hide. Don’t trust anyone.

I LOVED What Lies in the Woods, so I was thrilled to receive an ARC of No One Can Know. This story has a similar setup: three women, connected but estranged, a complicated and secretive history, a former forbidden crush. It is different enough to feel unique but easy to like for fans of WLITW.

Here’s what you need to know:
Small town
Dual timeline
Multiple perspectives
Don’t trust anyone

No One Can Know is so packed with secrets and twists and reveals that you get steady helpings of them all the way though. It never feels slow or like you’re waiting for the details to come out later. At its core, this book is about the things we are willing to do to protect the ones we love.

This is my first read by Kate Alice Marshall I was very skeptical at first. Glad I finished the novel because I ended up loving the storyline and characters, excited to read more than comes along from Marshall.

I like how Marshall protarys innocence and guilt. No One Can Know is a great example of being both a little bad and a little good at all moments.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

No One Can Know by Kate Alice Marshall delivers a suspenseful whodunit thriller that had me on the edge of my seat until the final reveal. Emma's life takes a sudden twist when she, jobless and pregnant, moves into her family's ominous mansion, co-owned with her two estranged sisters. Their lives were forever scarred by the brutal murder of their parents, which left a cloud of suspicion over them. The small town still believes Emma is the murderer, and she's determined to unearth the truth.

This story is a rollercoaster of twists and turns. The narrative weaves the past and present into a compelling tapestry of suspense and family drama. The lack of communication among the sisters adds to the intrigue but can be frustrating at times. The characters are not always likable, but this only adds depth to the story. The book is filled with secrets, lies, and misdirection that will keep you guessing. Emma's character, initially appearing weak, undergoes a transformation throughout the story that challenges your perceptions.

With short and engaging chapters, the book is a quick and compelling read. The multiple points of view, both then and now, create a complex and thrilling narrative. *No One Can Know* is a must-read for those who relish suspenseful family dramas with a twist of mystery. This book will leave you questioning everything, and the mind-bending ending is sure to stay with you.

I was so excited to see a new novel by Kate Alice Marshall. This story was twisty and entertaining. Not my favorite by the author, but still a hit!

This was gifted to me by Netgalley & the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

I was so excited to read another book by Kate Alice Marshall, after reading her last book, What Lies in the Woods. so the author is back with another murder mystery. In this book, we are following three sisters, two murders and of course ALL of the secrets.

Emma and her husband are married and things seem to be going okay, she’s never really brought up her past too much and her husband doesn’t really know a lot about her family. Emma and her husband are just living their lives until things get a little bit rocky. They lose their apartment, her husband gets laid off from his job, they find out they don’t have much money left in the bank, and to top it all off Emma is pregnant. They’re worried about what they’re gonna do when Emma realizes that she still has one asset she hasn’t told him about….her parents house. Now normally this would be fine, but Emma hasn’t shared a lot about her past for reasons that she doesn’t want to get her husband involved in. However, they have no choice so they return home and this forces Emma to reveal secrets about the house about her family about the town where she grew up in and things get a little bit more rocky than they anticipated.

I will say this I really enjoy the authors writing style and I think that I will definitely pick up any book that she writes from here on out. I think I enjoyed this book a little bit more than the last one but they’re both around a four to a 4.5 star for me. If you enjoy murder, mysteries, scary houses psychological, thrillers domestic thrillers, if any of these buzzword capture your attention I think that you would enjoy this book.

I really enjoyed Kate Alice Marshall's What Lies in the Woods, as a matter of fact I believe I gave it 5 stars. So I was excited to be approved for an e-ARC of No One Can Know. It's quite possible I came into this with my expectations too high. I was pulled in by the first chapter (maybe prologe?) but it just never ramped up for me.

No One Can Know tells the story of the aftermath of a murder of our three MCs parents, the suspicion that follows them over the ensuing decades, and of course how everything comes to a head after all three of them end up back home where it started.

There was nothing wrong with the writing, and the plot was interesting enough, but it was just rather 'meh' for me. The issue for me is that I didn't like or care about any of the characters. With the multiple POVs over 'then' and 'now', I couldn't find a chapter I cared about. It was all a bit too convoluted for me.

I would still recommend No One Can Know to fans of thrillers, or of the author's other writing.

Thank you to NetGalley and Flatiron Books for the e-ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Net galley for an ARC of this book.

Oof. This book drrraaggeedd. It finally picked up around 60% but if I'm being honest, I still have no idea who the murderer is. There were too many characters which made it impossible to connect with any of them. It definitely isn't a book I'll be recommending but I'm glad I got to read it because I really am a fan of Kate Alice Marshall and I'm still excited to see what she comes up with next.

3-3.5/5. This book is a bit of a mixed bag and I really really struggled for the first 40% or so because there are some terribly unlikable characters putting the main character in situations that felt so emotionally claustrophobic and horrible to me that I didn't want to keep reading. I literally told my partner 'I need X to get their comeuppance or else I'm gonna be so mad,' but then thankfully in the chapter immediately after my breaking point they did! So I was able to finish reading.

The Writing:
This is a multi-POV story from the perspectives of 3 sisters, each of which has a Then and Now timeline to follow. The Then timeline mostly takes place in the 3 months before and immediately during/after their parents' murders, and the Now is over a decade later when they've been estranged and out of communication for most of their lives.

Characters:
Emma is ostensibly the main character as she both has the least knowledge of the past events, the most personal fallout from it, and the most chapters devoted to her POV. She is very meek for most of the Now and I struggle to read from passive characters, so the story definitely improved for me when she started doing things and being an active participant in her own life with just the barest hint of backbone.

Apart from her Gabe/Lorelai, every single other character didn't really feel deep or real enough because they also had to be just ambiguous enough to be sus for the plot.

Relationships:
I think the hardest part for me is that the sisters essentially had a major breakup and have not been in communication for years, so any positive relationship dynamics between them feel unrealistic. AND OMG I cannot avoid mentioning the absolutely weird marriage between Emma and Nathan. It was entirely unrelatable and weird and I don't have any real world relationships that even sort of mirror this dynamic, so for me it was so depressing to read while also pulling me out of the story the whole time because it was so unrealistic/unbelievable that two people that incompatible and miserable would stay together or even get together in the first place without external pressure forcing them. Ymmv on this one, but that relationship alone probably knocked a full star off my rating.

Abuse:
I also wasn't ready for there to be so much abuse-- mental, emotional, and physical in this. The past timeline was incredibly difficult to read for me, so please be aware of child abuse if that is a trigger for you.

The Mystery:
There were some elements I really liked, like the reveal with Lorelai, but mostly the mystery did not run very deep and I felt like the tension was being dragged out to make the book longer without necessarily being more satisfying for it. Overall it had the proper amount of setup and reveals, if a slight rush at the end.

I enjoyed this book. I liked the characters. It was a fast read and I enjoyed all the twists and turns. Towards the end, they just kept coming and I had no idea who the murder(s) were!

This was a fun twisty mystery with a familiar premise...girl returns to hometown years after a tragic incident and grapples with unresolved relationships. In this case, the incident was the murders of Emma's parents, and the subsequent suspicion thrown on Emma and her two sisters. They have been estranged since then. When Emma moves back with her husband, secrets begin to be uncovered...and Emma finds that she is still in danger...

A fun read!

Emma has been estranged from her 2 sisters since the murder of their parents when she was 16 years old. Everyone in their home town was convinced that Emma had something to do with the murders. Emma finds out she is pregnant, her husband gets laid off, and they can no longer buy a new house. She has no choice but to move into her parents home and that means contacting Juliette and Daphne. The sisters have never spoken about what really happened the morning their parents were murdered, but moving back and reconnecting with her sisters will reveal more than just the secret of who killed their parents. I really loved What Lie in the Woods so I was excited to dive into No One Can Know. This one felt more like a suspenseful family drama than a thriller. Miscommunication is one of my least favorite tropes but this was just no communication which I found even more frustrating. None of the characters are remotely likable, especially Emma's husband, what a jerk. I did enjoy the chapters where the sisters went back in time revealing what had happened leading up to their parents deaths. There are a ton of twists and the chapters are short so it's a quick read. Thank you to Flatiron Books and Netgalley for my eARC.

Talk about a family full of secrets! The Palmer family had enough skeletons to fill up a few closets.

Juliette, Emma, and Daphne are sisters still living in the shadow of their parents' unsolved murder from 14 years earlier. When Emma and her husband are forced to move back into the old family home, unanswered questions and suspicion come back to haunt the sisters and once again call into question their memories from the night of the murders as well as the depth of their sisterly bonds.

No One Can Know is full of tantalizing secrets, family drama, and crazy soap opera worthy twists that had me second-guessing every character's honesty and motivation. I loved how the author unraveled the story in a well paced but still intriguing way. Just when I had settled into the plot and thought I had a good sense of the direction in which things were headed, the author pulled the rug out from under me with another wild story development.

The characters, while often deceptive, still managed to be interesting and compelling even if not always likable. I had no idea what was truly going on for most of the book, but I couldn't help but wish the sisters, whether guilty or innocent, would get some version of a HEA.

Once again, Kate Alice Marshall has given us a well written and cleverly constructed mystery about complicated family ties, deception, and long-held secrets. The twists kept coming until the very end, and this was one of the most entertaining thrillers I've read this year.

Thank you to Netgalley and Flatiron Books for providing me a copy to read and review.

This felt like a slow burn which I don’t mind! This was a wild ride. It felt like the characters were very realistic and I was mentally yelling at them at their choice they made or didn’t make. Consequences were dealt. I enjoyed this one.

No One Can Know by Kate Alice Marshall

My rating:
3.5/5
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Emma must return to her childhood home, when her husband loses his job and they have no where else to go. This is the same place that her parents were both murdered. When she returns to town, whispers of the past start to resurface and Emma and her estranged sisters are put in the spotlight, as they never found out who murdered their parents.

I really liked this story as it was a good pace and had multiple POVS of the 3 sisters. I like when you slowly start to find out what happened in the past and having two different timelines being told at the same time.

This was a solid 4 for me the entire book, until I got to the end where it was very confusing and lots of twists happened all at the same time. My original theory ended up being right, but it wasn’t satisfying because I still have questions.

This was my first book by the author and based on her writing style, I will definitely read another! Her other book, What Lies in The Woods is actually on my physical shelf so I will be reading that one for sure!

While I didn’t give this one the highest score, I do recommend reading it for a nice thriller!

Thanks netgalley and Flatiron books for the ARC! This one will be published in January of 2024!

Thank you to Netgalley and Flatiron Press for the ARC! I always appreciate my thrillers and I enjoyed this one a lot. I really liked the overall structure of the book- going between the sisters and time to discover the past and present. I also liked the twists and turns in this one- keeps you guessing all the way to the very end!

I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Three sisters are torn apart after the brutal deaths of their parents. They are objects of pity and suspected of murder. Violence tears them a sunder, but ties pull them back towards each other.

Thanks for the ARC! This was such a great read - Kate Alice Marshall does it again! This book hooked me from the beginning and I could not wait to find out what really happened. I thought that the twists were really good, and I really wanted to find out just what happened to the parents and who snapped. Great read!

No One Can Wait has a bit of gothic flavor. Big mansion, mysterious deaths, and sisters bound by a secret.

And it is one of those mysteries where the author likes to keep using the “Oh, but wait,” trick to keep adding in yet more things at the end to keep the story going. And going. And going. And going. I think authors mistakenly think this is a fantastic writing method that ratchets up the tension. Instead, the climax happens, but I then I have to start faking excitement because it isn’t exciting anymore. I just want it to be over so I can see what happens and get some resolution. Something a little more concise.
