A twisty mystery with some moments of creepiness. Perhaps the most creepy part is how real this seemed, the parts about The Plan and leaving the group. I can see this happening even today and it's scary to think about how people fall under the spell of these types of groups so easily. The author did a good job showing the closeness of the twins, their special bond before and after the accident.
Unfortunately this was a dnf for me. I made it about 30% in and just couldn’t get into the story. It had the makings of everything I look for in a book, I just couldn’t get invested in the characters or why any of the actions were happening to them.
This book is the definition of unpredictable. I won't lie, I was genuinely confused for maybe a quarter of the book, but I also feel like that just made the book that much better? This is a perfect cult/psychological horror book. It describes what these kids went through as they were growing up and how it shaped them to be who they are present day. I loved reading the two different times of past and present. Again, the only reason I knocked a star is because I was a bit confused in certain parts, but I highly recommend this book! Very unputdownable and intriguing.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC! I am so grateful.
If you haven't heard of this novel where you end you have to check this out! It is delicious and decadently creepy. It will keep you up if you're reading it at night, but I recommend read it during the day. Where You End is one of those novels that will stay with you long after you read it. If you don't like things that are thrillers or psychological terrors in nature, then I would recommend you not read this novel but if you enjoy a little bit of terror and light to be on the edge of your seat you should pick this one up!
I don’t even know what to say about this book other than I just wasn’t a huge fan of it, they was too much with it that it just didn’t hold my interest and bored all the way.
Where You End is about two identical twins and then how an unsual form of amensia turns the twins life. They have to face the dangerous shadows of their past. This book drew me in by the cover and plot but sadly this one was not one I liked. In the beginning it was good and then somewhere in the middle I got confused. The characters were ones I didn't like and at the very end of this book I was just lost. I am going to try the authors other books but this one was not for me. Thank you to NetGalley and Publisher for this read in exchange of my honest review of Where You End by Abbot Kahler.
This book was entertaining and I think my students would enjoy this being in our classroom library. Little bit of mystery and family drama
I started this book as an advanced copy and about halfway continued with audio. The narrator for this audio has a nice voice and does a great job.
For the story itself, I feel like I lost connection and slight interest somewhere in the middle of the book. The beginning and the end kept my attention, but somewhere in the middle it seemed to lose the story
Creepy is definitely a correct word to describe this book-LOL.
I felt the hairs on my body stand up while reading this sometimes. I had to put it down and try to forget the story but was never successful for long. I keep having to pick it back up!
This was quite a read- I really enjoyed it!
When Kat wakes from a horrible accident she has no memory of who she is or of her past life. All she knows is her twin sister Jude. Now Jude is trying to help kat remember her past and fills in her childhood for her. But is Jude telling her the truth? And if not, why? As Kay tries to unravel the mystery that is her life she uncovers secrets that she may not want to know. This book has a dream like tone and made me want to find out what happened to the girls when they were young. Their parents unusual lifestyle and their traumatic past was slowly revealed and everything made sense in the end but the unraveling was slow and confusing at times. The surreal feeling of the book stayed with me long after I was finished reading. I enjoyed it. 4⭐️. Thank you NetGalley for the digital copy
This was a great emotional book. This tells a story of 2 twins, they are mirror twins. It was really cool, I've never heard of anything like this before. One twin has a terrible accident and doesn't remember anything when she wakes up so her twin is helping her remember her past and all that has happened. This book I gave a 5 stars. The cover was also so beautiful. I enjoyed this so much I made it my Aardvark book pick of the month.
Where You End is a strange, surreal look into the memories that haunt us. I was instantly taken with Abbott Kahler’s somewhat literary writing style, and loved how expertly she made me feel just as clueless and vulnerable as the main character, Kat.
Kat wakes from a coma with no memory of her previous life, with one exception: she remembers the name and face of her identical twin, Jude. The first half of the novel is filled with Kat trying to remember who she was before the accident, with Jude filling in the blanks along the way. However, pretty quickly it becomes clear that Jude isn’t being entirely honest. What follows is Kat’s twisty, sometimes confusing, journey to discover what is real and who she used to be.
I could see some readers finding this book a bit jarring. You really have to trust the process and immerse yourself into the story; you have to accept that you are mainly in Kat’s POV, therefore you are on the journey of discovery which is absolutely not straightforward. You do get occasional flashback chapters from Jude’s POV, but those often just make you even more uncertain. Again, I think Kahler is masterful in making her readers truly sit with the characters and live this story out right beside them.
Overall, I was a big fan! It was a fun, dark story that went in directions I didn’t entirely expect.
Didn't finish this, was not at all what I expected from the synopsis. Certainly not bad, but don't feel that we need this in our collection.
Maybe 2.5? This felt like the outline of an interesting book, and the story itself was certainly intriguing. It’s also a fast read. The problem is I didn’t care at all about the characters. It just felt like a lot of moving from point to point where there was no emotional context. I get some of it was meant to be vague but it never really hit the emotional depth I would expect with this kind of story.
Sorry this took me so long.
Creepy and cult like. I wasn’t sure what I had read when I was finished! The grooming of the girls are such a young age had me feeling all kinds of cringe.
Where you end by Abbet Keeller is a Book about twins were one got in an accident and must learn everything about their life from the other twin Jude is the one teaching cat everything she forgot but when cat starts to find contradictions and things that just don’t seem kosher to Judes other stories she goes off investigating it for herself I really thought I was going to love the story but sadly I did not after reading the authors nonfiction book Eden undone I really thought I was in for a great ride there were some parts that are out and out confuse me and didn’t make sense to the overall art of the story which is sad because once you read the whole book all you think is that could’ve been a great read but sadly it was not. I want to thank the publisher for my free ARC copy via NetGalley please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
I was really excited to get approved to read this but I think I expected something different. This isn’t a negative reflection on the author or this book – if the synopsis sounds interesting to you, definitely check it out – I was just expecting something much more twisty and fast paced. However, I think fans of cult-themed suspense and slow burns will really enjoy this one.
Netgalley ARC
The first part of this book caught my interest and I quite enjoyed the relationship between Sab and Kat. However the plot as well as the rest of the book felt very predictable and flat for me. I didn’t warm to the main characters even though the things they went through were horrific.
Don’t know that I would read more from this author. The best thing for me was the cover! I love rabbits!
QUOTE: “the pain of her own presence hits her acutely.”
A haunting tale that explores the fragile boundaries between memory, identity, and the shadows of the past. The premise is intriguing but the execution occasionally falters, leaving gaps in tension and pacing.
Many thanks to Henry Holt & Company and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I enjoyed this book. Unfortunately, it was a little slow for me but it was enough to keep me engaged and I was a little confused at times.
I liked the concept and how I was trying to guess what was going to happen but couldn't figure it out.
Eerie and creepy and I am really into reading about cults so that was a great piece!
A great fictional debut novel for this author!
