I really enjoyed the writing style and the pacing. It's unique and I haven't read anything like it before. I would recommend this if you like suspense stories. Special Thank You to Abbott Kahler, Henry Holt & Company and NetGalley for allowing me to read a complimentary copy in exchange for a honest review.
Thank you to Net Galley and Henry Holt & Company for the chance to read and review this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
When Kat awakes from a coma, her twin sister Jude is the only one she recognizes. Jude tries to fill her in on their life and help her remember. The only problem is, Jude is not telling the truth. This is the story of what really happened before Kat woke up. There were some big surprises in this book, especially the end. I liked parts of this book, but sometimes it was hard to follow. I felt it was hard to really connect with any of the characters. It was just an ok book for me.
To be honest, i'm not even really sure why I didnt like this book, but it just didn't do it for me. I found it a little hard to follow along. It definitely was not for me. I was excited to start and then bored by the end. No connection to characters. Blahhh.
Two sisters who are mirror image identical twins share a tumultuous childhood. Their inventor Dad leaves one day and never returns and their Mother gets them involved in a cultish group. Now Kat has had an accident and can’t remember a thing and her sister, Jude, is filling in the blanks for her but everything is not adding up and she’s not sure who or what to believe about their past Twisty, creepy thriller!
Thank you to Henry Holt & Company for the ARC. #NetGalley #WhereYouEnd
This was sooo good. A slow burn and the ending 🖤 The connection of twins is crazy! When one twin wakes up without the slightest hint of what happened the last 20 something years, she has to relearn everything, except for her twin. But sometimes, things in the past should just be left there.
I was looking forward to reading this book because of it being Abbott Kahler's debut fiction book and the fact we grew up in the same town. I was looking forward to perhaps reading about familiarities of our hometown. This book did not disappoint for many reasons.
Where You End is about identical 22 year old mirror twins, Kat and Jude Bird. Kat and Jude are in a car accident in which Kat wakes up after being in a coma and all she remembers and recognizes is her twin Jude. Jude is piecing back her life for her but is everything she tells her the truth? And why is she lying? Through twists, turns and suspense, Kat starts to piece back her life. Will she love her sister as much as she thought she did? Will she love herself and Before Kat?
I hate to admit that it did take me a bit to really dive into the book and feel emotional connections with the characters but once I was able to invest in the story and characters, I couldn't put it down.....but it did take me about halfway through. I'm not sure if it was the writing style--I found myself at times having to reread some of the sentences to really absorb the story. The author used some historical perspectives, like the movements to expand human potential which was a trend in the 1970s (cults) to explain the upbringing of Kat and Jude which I did like learning about. I would certainly classify the book as eery, creepy and a thriller.
I highly recommend this book knowing you may need to give it some time--but I thought it was so worth it. And Abbott, I hope you write more fiction in the future. :-)
Thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan and Abbott Kahler for the advanced read.
Wow! What a delightful surprise this one was. I was so gripped by this story. I went into it with little to no expectations or knowledge of what it was about. I ended up tabbing/annotating this book and it has just really stuck with me. It deals with a lot of heavy topics. It was dark and haunting and also very emotional. I love the unreliable narrator and cult tropes. The events at the end were shocking and exciting. I always seem to be an outlier with my reviews, and I’m not sure what other people aren’t vibing with, but there was just something about this one that really impacted me. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a dark, character-driven thriller. If you’ve enjoyed books from Mona Awad, Rachel Harrison, or Ashley Winstead, I think you’ll also really like this one. I would definitely read from this author again in the future!
After waking from a coma, the only thing Kat can remember is her twin sister, Jude. So it’s up to Jude to tell her about their past. But, as time goes by, Kat starts to wonder if what she’s been told is true. She sets out to figure out what really happened in their past and why Jude may not be telling her the truth about it.
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for providing me with an advanced copy of this audiobook.
I think this one just wasn’t for me. It was perfectly well-written and plotted but the style just didn’t hook me and it’s a story where you need to be hooked. If domestic thrillers with a side of amnesia are your thing, definitely give it a read.
Where You End is a thriller with a unique premise, exploring themes that I had personally never read before. This story gripped me and kept me on the edge of my seat. Fell in love with the writing style.
Where you End
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a great Thriller with all kinds of great twist. I couldn't stop reading. I had to kn I was what happened next. It was great story & characters that will hold you & draw you in. I really enjoyed & can't wait to read more from the Author. Sooo talented!!
Thank you NetGallery!
Slowly got into this story but once I did couldn’t put it down!!
Family bond twisty thrilling tale.
While the premise of this novel was compelling, I found it hard to follow at times. I struggled to connect with the characters which contributed to my overall lack of momentum with the book. This one was not for me.
I unfortunately didn't enjoy this one. I didn't feel like the characters were fleshed out enough to be interesting and enjoyable. The pace was very very slow and most of the book just feels like nothing happens, in fact... the entire book kind of feels like nothing happens. I was holding out for the ending to be a big showdown and it wasn't. The meeting with the mother was completely brushed over and wasn't even impactful or interesting enough to be apart of the book at all and the showdown with Bash was just lackluster as well. So disappointed.
When Kat Bird wakes up from a coma, she sees her mirror image: Jude, her twin sister. Jude’s face and name are the only memories Kat has from before her accident. As Kat tries to make sense of things, she believes Jude will provide all the answers to her most pressing questions:
Who am I?
Where am I?
What actually happened? Amid this tragedy, Jude sees an irresistible opportunity: she can give her sister a brand-new past, one worlds away from the lives they actually led. She spins tales of an idyllic childhood, exotic travels, and a bright future.
But if everything was so perfect, who are the mysterious people following Kat? And what explains her uncontrollable flashes of violent anger, which begin to jeopardize a sweet new romance? Duped by the one person she trusted, Kat must try to untangle fact from fiction. Yet as she pulls at the threads of Jude’s elaborate tapestry, she has no idea of the catastrophe she’s inviting. At stake is not just the twins’ relationship, but their very survival.
Thank you to NetGalley and Henry Holl & Company for giving me an advance copy.
Where You End is an interesting read. The intrigue of learning the details of Kat and Jude’s past kept me reading, however, I wasn’t as thrilled by this book as I was hoping I would be when I saw this delightfully creepy cover. It was a slow burn and I felt the mystery was muddled by excess that did nothing to enhance the twist of the ending.

And Amazon.
As a mother of "mirror" twins I need to not read these thrillers featuring twins.
Especially when one of mine is also called Katherine.
This book was good, confusing, and super creepy. It isn't for moms of identical twin girls because we deal with enough.
I have some trauma to deal with. Absolutely wonderful book for non twin moms.
Novels featuring twins don't usually capture my imagination, but something about the setup of this one did, particularly the term "mirror twins," reflecting a rare occurrence when a physiological anomaly results in the two being mirror images of one another and closer than the usual form of twinage. As Kat awakens from a coma after an accident with a completely clear mind, no memory at all, her twin Jude seizes the opportunity to create a past that never existed, and Kat learns at the same time as the reader what really happened to them growing up. Not for the squeamish.
Unfortunately I DNF'd this at the 50% mark.
I was really looking forward to this book, but I was left feeling disappointed. I love a good psychological thriller, and this synopsis was on point with a dramatic storyline with a set of mirror twins that get into a bad car accident and one twin dies and comes back to life with amnesia. This leaves their twin sister to fill in the blanks of their lives. Add a cult into the mix and I'm in.
Originally I was hooked from the start of the accident, but once Jude starts working things got very slow. Kat begins to explore her neighborhood and figuring out what she likes as a person without the influence of her sister. There's so many different timelines happening at once that it starts to get confusing. I began to lose interest in the characters by the time we get a good look into the cult. If the timeline was more structered the transistion would've been excuted smoother.
I did enjoy the attention to detail in descriptions of horror elements. Those scenes kept my attention and left me feeling uncomfortable in a good way.
Thank you, though, to NetGalley and Henry Holt & Co. for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. This title published January 16, 2024
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author, for an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
The premise of the book drew me in but once I started reading it, I just couldn’t get into it at all.
I wish the author, publisher and all those promoting the book much success and connections with the right readers.
