I received a complimentary copy of this book "The Block Party" and all opinions expressed are my own. I had both the kindle and audio of this book. I'm glad I went with the audio because I don't think I would have finished the book on the kindle. Definitely a slow start and too much going on. Narrators were good but book was just ok.

Thanks to Macmillan Audio for the ALC.
So much fun. I love a juicy story for summer and this delivered. If you like rich people behaving badly and all of their gossip and drama, you should check this out. Told from the POV of a mom and daughter, it kept the story engaging because both the adults and teens have a lot going on in their lives. The author did a great job of giving snippets of reveals throughout, and I especially liked the community page addition to keep me guessing. There are quite a few characters but once you get into it, I promise they’re all distinct enough to keep straight. The two narrators did a great job, and I highly recommend the audio. Each captured their characters and the other ones perfectly.

I am a sucker for the "neighbors with secrets" trope, so this one did the trick for me! The narration was great, the story was solid, and I stayed engaged the entire time, trying to figure out who was up to what. I will recommend this one, and I will read more from this author if given the opportunity.

The Block Party is a fun murder mystery told from two different points-of-view, Alex and her teenage daughter, Lettie and it kept me guessing until the very end! I spent a long time thinking I knew what was going on and who did it, so the extra revelations at the end were a nice surprise. I both read and listened to this title and I thoroughly enjoyed both experiences, particularly the two narrators for each point of view. This is the perfect summer beach read or listen and I look forward to recommending it to everyone! Big thank you to Macmillan Audio, St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for the early access in exchange for my honest opinion.

Do you ever drive through neighborhoods and think to yourself, "I wonder what it is like to live there?" Everyone on this street has a beautiful home, beautiful family, they are all successful and everything looks picture perfect. As you get to know the characters their secrets start to unravel and thats when things get interesting. Did she kill her husband? Did he cheat on his beautiful wife? Is he an abusive father and husband? Just when you think you know the answers - it all falls apart. The narrator of this audiobook did a wonderful job. I did not want to stop listening to this story.

It's time for the Memorial Day Block Party. Alex has done so much in preparation that she deserves a little treat(much booze) and passes out inside. When she awakens, sirens are blaring and it's full pandemonium.

To gain some context, we go back in time to last Memorial Day and revisit that party and the year leading up to the tragic one in question. We meet a whole cast of characters, perhaps way too many.

There's Alex, our main girl, and her daughter who narrates the rest. They're both likeable enough, the wannabe Greta Thunberg daughter is a little annoying but she's a youth. It just felt very long and it had so many side quests that it was getting tedious halfway through.

It's a pretty average domestic drama that started off really clever but just got too clunky. I'd definitely check out more from this author in the future but this one missed the mark for me.

This book initially starts in present day, Memorial Day. We are then taken back exactly one year to the date & live through the events leading up to the night of a murder that has occurred during the annual block party at the exclusive cul-de-sac on Alton Road.

Thank you to Jamie Day, NetGalley & MacMillan Audio for giving me the opportunity to read/listen and review this book. All opinions are my own and 100% honest.

I received this book in the audio format & enjoyed it. I enjoyed the way @Megan Tusing and Suzy Jackson articulated & narrated the story as well as distinguished the characters. I found them both to be very animated which kept me engaged throughout the book.

The Block Party is a uniquely written book filled with drama, secrets, & twists. Initially starting this book it felt a bit juvenile. I found it very catty and calculated, but once I hit the 30% mark I WAS INVESTED. This story follows multiple characters & ties in different point of views — from Adult to YA, which I found to be crucial. The book left you questioning everyone and their intentions. Every time I thought I knew something, a new revelation came to light making me question everything I thought I knew. The story was gripping with likable characters (for the most part), it was hard for me to put down. This book left me in shock with all the twists, revelations and secrets. I highly recommend picking up this book!

This book was full of fun, take-charge women who I really liked! There are multiple POVs and two timelines which make it extra suspenseful. We are reading about what leads up to this huge event that unfolds in the beginning of the book while also trying to figure out what actually happened during the big block party. I loved every minute of it! The END was awesome and surprisingly I didn’t figure it out. Great, fast read. Thank you NetGalley for the audio ARC.

It’s time for the annual Memorial Day Alton Rd block party. The night ends with cop cars galore, and a murder. Who is dead though? And why? We travel back a year to find out more about the neighborhood and the cliques and lies that make up the neighborhood.

Did I start this book the same day that my parents neighborhood had a block party? Yes, yes I did. Don’t worry nobody died at ours, though there was some slight chaos as always. While the people at our party were actually meeting neighbors for the first time, the residents of Alton road know each other fairly well. The street itself could have had its own real housewives show. This is a typical rich people neighborhood with all the gossip, lies, cheating, drugs, etc. I found this one to be thoroughly enjoyable.

This book will leave you guessing from page one until the final word! I recommend it to anyone interested in a mystery with one surprise after another. Thought the alternating chapters of points of view was original.

In this exclusive cul-de-sac, there are secrets and scandals hidden from the rest of the world. Each year, they have a block party. One year, during this party, there was a murder. We follow the story between now (the night of the party) and then (back to one year earlier leading up to the party), trying to figure out who died, who killed them, and why.
"Everyone has secrets. And secrets are hard to keep in this day and age. ... When it comes to getting revenge, you won't get anywhere by playing it safe."
Suburban drama, Desperate Housewives and Gossip Girls are your thing? This book is for you! Is it a thriller? Not really. I kept on waiting for the action to move along. I listened to the audiobook and the narration was great. It's told into a point of views from Alex and her daughter, Lettie. I couldn't relate to any of the characters and most of them really got on my nerves, especially both narrators. The Facebook posts/comments portion was annoying in audio format But I know I would have loved to read them on paper. There is one sub plot (the Wookie one) that I thought was very superfluous and didn't add anything to the story. However I liked that the ending wrapped every little secrets up very neatly.
All in all, the premise was super interesting but I think it fell kind of flat. Let's just say I'm glad I don't live in this neighborhood, and it's just a reminder that nothing is ever as it really seems...

Thoroughly entertaining. This felt like a hoa Facebook group come to life with crime and murder. Definitely will be a top book of the summer. All in all it was a good read. Neighbors with secrets. Some are a little crazy, but still pretty good. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC

Domestic suspense about a neighborhood Memorial Day get together gone wrong. Lots of family secrets, drunk housewives with rebellious children, plus a dash of murder to untangle. A little too long, but there were some good twists and reveals towards the end that made up for it.

This was a slow rolling meandering story, while I felt that the plot was well developed, and came to maturity well it was a little on the slow side for me. The multiple point of views broke things up nicely and helped make it not seem so drawn out. I also appreciated that different narrators were used for those multiple point of views. Overall for me this one wasn't my favorite, perhaps it was the adultery, or the slow pace, but over all this book was middle of the road for me.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of this audiobook. This was a great book, I especially loved the use of multiple narrators which made it feel like I was listening to a movie. The story line was good; I did figure out the big twist on my own, but there were other elements that I didn’t.

This book was a wild ride. It started out pretty slow, I mean there was a ton of drama between these neighbors, but as it's genre is thriller first, it didn't get thriller-y until more towards the end. We know from the very first "present" chapter that there is a murder, but it takes a long time to get there.
This book is told mainly in the past, from the Block Party one year ago up until the present this year's Block Party. And honestly, it's mainly about the drama. Everyone, including the kids, has SO MUCH DRAMA. I was here for it though. I think I liked the kid's stories the most. I say kids, they are the children of the other characters, but are in high school or graduated. Lettie has been suspended from school because her former best friend Riley (who is now dating her cousin Dylan) identified her on camera for graffiti. Lettie wants to get revenge and when she meets new neighbor, bad boy Jay, they hatch a plan. But all of the kids have their own secrets, and most of them are dark. The parents all have their own stuff going on too. I won't go into it all because it's a lot.
There are a lot of characters in this book. At first, it was hard for me to remember who was who, who was married to who, which kids belonged to which parents, but after a while I got it.
Like I said, from the very beginning, we know there is a murder. We get little snippits of some kind of online forum or text message group of people talking about it, not knowing what happened. This happens infrequently, so for me, it honestly didn't bring much suspense. It just kind of kept reminding us that all this drama was leading to a murder.
The ending when the murder happened was actually insane. I couldn't stop listening, the reason for the murder was insane, I was just on the edge of my seat. There were also a lot of other drama-related things that were resolved which I thought were handled well.
There were 2 narrators and they were both great. They really brought out the characters, drama and mystery.
All in all, the first part was a fun book with lots of drama, and the ending had an insane thriller feel. A perfect thriller read for the summer!

The Block Party has an interesting plot. I found myself more invested in the audiobook – switching back and forth. The narration brought the characters to life in a way that simply reading the story missed for me. I enjoyed the writing overall. I would have preferred less possibilities and more dedicated focus on the main story. The ending was satisfying. I especially enjoyed the inclusion of life after the event. The was my first read from this author but it won’t be my last.

I loved this. It is just all the drama that can happen in a middle class, or upper class, neighborhood. It covers revenge, drugs, and potential affairs. I loved Brooke.
The narrators were spot on with their characters.

This was such a fun listen, I enjoyed it. It was a very drama filled suspenseful read. You don't know who to trust, who's hiding something, who's reliable and I love that.

The setting was great it was really engaging to find out about all the neighbor's, and spying on them, now I wonder what my neighbor's are hiding. There were 2 POV's from Alex and Lettie which are mother and daughter, I enjoyed the adult and teens view. I felt they really enhanced the the tension, drama and you got to see how the adult secrets affected the parents and vice versa.

The character development was great, not just from the 2 MC but also the side ones, as things were revealed we could feel the growth and regret. I honestly did not predict anything of what happened, I didn't see anything coming and that's the best part. Although some parts were slower, it didn't stop me from being immersed in the story. The ending was just right in my opinion.

If you're looking for and addictive, drama filled, unputdownable, slow building suspense thriller ride add this to your summer TBR!

This was a good domestic thriller set between two Memorial Day block parties. The story was told with many different narrators, but it read quickly and was interesting.Another story where you never know where the truth lies! Gave me Big Little Lies vibes. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
