Would you look at that? I’m the first tor ate and review this. To be fair, I don’t know if I should be the first to rate and review poetry books—I’m no expert. Moreover, I don’t care for most modern poetry. But I do try, if only for different reading experiences.
And this one was actually quite good as far as modern poetry goes.
Yes, some of it reads just like prose, divided up semi-rhythmically which makes you wonder about just how elastic the definition of poetry is, but the mood and the tone was strong, and the author did a very good job of depicting a landlocked state’s state of mind, the oppressive closemindedness of that particular brand of Americana that Oklahoma (and places like it) represents.
So this must be a success then. Because poetry at its best is meant to be like art, isn’t it? Rendering things clearly visual with words. Okay then, great job, author. Thanks Netgalley.
