Finished reading A Winter in New York by Josie Silver and what a swoon-fest!!!!

It was full of love, friendship, a haunting past, finding yourself, cute NYC meet cutes, and a HUGE italian family with a secret gelato recipe!

I have been an avid watcher of 80s and 90s romcoms and reading this felt as wholesome as watching some of my absolute favorite movies such as When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail, While You Were Sleeping, etc.

I absolutely loved how the story converged and unveiled old family secrets.

A must read this Fall and Winter. I might just buy a hardcopy for this one!

Loved it! I have devoured all of Josie's previous books and this one was the same - easy to engage with characters, good paced story, ups and downs, a swoon worthy leading man, interesting backstory, great location and ice cream! What more could you want?! Highly recommended!

i really liked the concept of this book, but found the secret keeping very frustration and for me it was a way to make the book longer than it needed to be, the blurb was better than the story.

I was so close to giving this 5 stars! Such a lovely heart warming winter romance. I love the Belotti family so much and I wish I could spend a dinner at their table. Just a sprinkling of Christmas was perfect to keep this wintery and not too festive, balanced out with all the ice cream talk. I massively recommend this read!

This is such a lovely sweet book that has been skillfully written by a brilliant author. Iris lands in New York having fled London and her abusive ex and soon finds herself encountering Gio. But the lies soon add up and Iris ends up sabotaging her own happiness.

I found some of the lies (or omissions) frustrating as they were just so unnecessary, leaving me wanting to shake Iris at times. However I loved the storyline and the character that Iris showed herself to be. I love love LOVED the moments of reminiscence about her mother and thought many of the themes were dealt with sympathetically.

Josie Silver is back with another romance, this time set in one of the most iconic and romantic cities in the world, New York.

Iris, still grieving from the loss of her mum and trying to distance herself from a controlling ex-boyfriend, finds herself in New York City. A chef by trade, she finds herself flinging noodles at her new friend’s restaurant by night and exploring her new city by day. When a chance encounter at a gelato store brings back vivid memories of her mother, long held secrets will be revealed and a romance begins to bloom…

There is so much love in this story. The connection between Gio and Iris is palpable from the start, and only grows stronger when Iris forms connections with his family too. I think you can definitely fall for someone’s family as well as the person themselves, and if you’re lucky enough to be welcomed as one of their own, you feel special in a way hard to explain. You are not only accepted, but chosen.

In my head, Iris is a double for Zooey Deshanel, such is the vivid description given by Silver; I could truly picture her as fully formed and a complete character, one with depth and flaws and a true spark that makes them memorable. Gio I could see as Adam Garcia, brooding but welcoming, dashing but concealing a multitude of enotions.

The narrative follows Iris as she tries to help Gio and his family discover their lost family gelato recipe. We also occasionally revisit the past in the form of Iris’s mother, gaining a snapshot of how Iris came to be, and glimpse the Berlotti family of years before…

All side characters are fully-fleshed out and likeable, so much you wish they were real and that you could also become a part of this warm family.

A cosy and sumptuous seasonal romance, it will whisk you away to the infamous streets of New York and have you craving gelato in Autumn. Deliciously romantic, its the perfect book to escape into this October.

That usual story of half truths and misunderstandings sets things off here. But it’s lovely, mixing past history and present day beautifully. Romantic, funny and sad. I loved it, so beautifully written I felt I was there, in New York, hearing the carols, smelling the scents, tasting the coffee…and the gelato!

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Set in New York in Winter it got me straight in the mood for Christmas. I enjoyed getting to know Iris and the Belottis and the little duel story line with Irises mum and Santo is lovely too. Not too cheesy or corny a Christmas read, I’d highly recommend. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this early copy

Josie Silver is definitely one of my favourite authors. Her books always hit me right in the feel good spot. Just like her previous books A Winter in New York is full of likeable characters and is set in the perfect setting of New York City. I got married in New York and stayed on Mulberry Street where the majority of the book is based. I could imagine walking down the streets and visiting some of the places mentioned. I would love to see this book made into a film - I’m sure I’ve said that on more than one occasion about Josie’s books but that is because they’re so good.

An easy and enjoyable read that is told mainly through Iris trying to navigate her new life in New York after leaving a controlling relationship. Fate brings her to a shop that her mum visited and into the family of the only man that her mum truly loved. Add in a missing gelato recipe, best friends and a handsome Italian New Yorker and you have everything you need for a lovely book. Perfect to read as the nights draw in and if like me you like to indulge in festive books this is the one to start with this year as there is a festive hint but not too much that it spoils the magic later in the year.

Josie Silver writes gorgeous stories and this one is no different
Iris is running away from an abusive boyfriend, and finds herself in New York. As a chef she has no problems finding work and so when we meet her she’s working in a noodle store, not too taxing but ideal for someone who needs time to figure out what’s next.
While out celebrating the feast of St Gennaro, Iris comes across a beautiful gelaterie which is run by Gio a man she had a slight contretemps with in the local bookshop. Iris realises that the gelateria where he works is the same shop that’s in an old photo of her late mothers. Curiosity compels her to revisit the shop the next day where she finds herself drawn to Gio and his family as they struggle to keep their business afloat, which is reliant on the secret family recipe that only Santo, Gio’s uncle knows. He is in a coma and so the family fear that the recipe is lost for good.
At this point Iris realises that she is the key to saving the Belotti family from going under, but can she break the promise she made to her mum?
A Winter in New York is a gorgeous feel good book. I think for anyone looking for a hallmark Christmas book this is it.
I would like to thank #NetGalley for my ARC of this book. For me it’s a 4⭐️ story.

What a great story line! Yes, romance is involved, but who thought it could happen over an entwined story of a mother, daughter & a secret vanilla ice cream recipe!

Iris moves to New York after walking out of an abusive relationship. She's grieving the loss of her mother & finds a photograph of an ice cream parlour in her mother's belongings & this begins her journey to find out more about her mother's life.

With romance, family & friendship thrown in, it makes it a lovely book. Enjoy!

There’s nothing more comforting to read than a new Josie Silver book at this time of year! Although her stories pull at the heart strings somewhat they always leave you smiling. This offering was no exception and by the end of the prologue I was quick to turn the page. My interest had been peaked!

Iris has left her life in England behind to start afresh in New York. A chance encounter brings back memories from her childhood which she can’t ignore and leads her into a very awkward situation! Mixed into the scenario is the handsome Gio whose life has also changed and not for the better! Iris has the power to solve one of Gio’s many problems but at a huge cost to her and to the memory of her late mother.

There were times I could’ve cheerfully knocked their heads together especially Iris but their chemistry was something I relished seeing it play out throughout the chapters!

One of my favourite parts of the story is Gio Berlotti’s family. They took Iris under their wing especially his daughter and sisters. It’s clear Iris needed this much loved family and the comfort they offered however, this only made her secret harder to keep.

There is no doubt this author can write one hell of a romance story but also she ties it in well with elements of a more serious nature. There were parts of this book which really did make me laugh but also parts which made me sad. It was very well balanced out and for me made the story relatable. Congratulations Josie on another brilliant read!

I really enjoy this author’s writing and this book didn’t disappoint. This is so much more than just a romance story and I thought the author tackled the more poignant topics brilliantly. This book made me want to laugh and cry; I went through all the emotions (as well as a craving for a big bowlful of vanilla gelato). I loved the chemistry between Iris and Gio and the way in which the Belotti family embraced Iris as one of their own. The side characters are right up there, especially Iris’s best friend Bobby and the characters who make up the Belotti family.

This is such an immersive and heartwarming read and I couldn’t put it down. Another brilliant book by this author and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

As with all books by the fabulously talented author Josie Silver, this is a hug in a book with a brilliant recipe of a story with great characters as the staring ingredients.

After the death of her mother Iris travels to New York from London with just her gelato maker and a battered case, her most precious object is a recipe written on a napkin that signifies the love of her mothers life. Iris meets Gino in a bookshop and their relationship develops with Iris not giving away her mothers secret and trying to find her own way.

This is a beautiful love story and shows the strong family bonds within an Italian family and the joy for finding love when all seems impossible. The book is so well written and has some lovely characters that are joyous to meet, even those who play bit parts in the love story that unfolds between Iris and Gio.

I would highly recommend this book and will be adding it to the collection I have from this amazing author.

Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Having loved ‘one day in December’ by Josie Silver and just been to New York messed this year for my Birthday I couldn’t wait to dive into this book.

Iris flies to New York on Christmas Day to escape a bad relationship. She picks New York as her Mom had life’s there and and she was born there. She meets Gio there and so begins a romance.

A slow lingering read just right for winter nights. Great characters I enjoyed the links to to the past with Iris’s mother

New York at Christmas is one of the most magical things - and Iris using it as her escape is one of the best things about NY. The characters were both so captivating and I really rooted for them throughout. I adored this cute whimsical Christmas story.

I really struggled to get into this book. I found the story telling to not flow well and got a bit confused. I also didn't really have any interest in our main characters and their story. I ultimately dnf'd after a couple of chapters.
