This was a really cute and cosy fantasy with a simple magic system, cosy Cornish village setting and a sweet second-chance romance plot. It was a super easy read and the whole thing just felt like a warm hug.

At times, things felt slightly half cooked, almost like the author had a plot lined up then realised she was running out of pages to cover it and glossed over some parts that I would've liked more from.

On the whole, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who needs a bit of a pallet cleanser between much harder hitting and more complex books.

Also, Boris the Badger is incredible. 🦡

Linsey Hall built a charming and whimsical world to fall into in The Modern Girl's Guide to Magic. I think the author really excelled in creating the setting so I definitely look forward to the other standalone novels to be set in this world that are forthcoming.

I enjoyed the dialogue and interactions between the FMC and MMC and could have read more of that. The FMC's inner voice felt a little immature at times which came across as disruptive and, at times, some of the content skewed a little cheesy. As a whole, it didn't detract from the book overall and it was a fun rom-com.

This is an easy book to read and enjoyable. I enjoyed the lightness of the story. The one problem I found with the book is that I wasn't sure whether it wanted to a rom-com or a steamy book - I personally felt that the latter wasn't needed to pull the story together.

There were some likeable characters (and less likeable ones who acted like they were in high school). The magic was so element I enjoyed and was interesting to learn about the main characters magic. I did feel that there was the potential for more depth there and the grandfathers sideline plot.

This book was a little outside of my normal genre, but it managed to weave together romance and magic well. My biggest issue with the book was that it felt very juvenile throughout most of the story in terms of the writing and portrayal of the characters, but then there would be a more explicit scene a couple of times and it just felt out of place with the story. I also felt like the ending wrapped up super fast and every issue just had a simple solution. Overall, it was a quick enjoyable read, but it was just missing something in my opinion. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

An intriguing premise for a book, with magic, family, friendship and romance throughout and a sort-of talking badger. This was a cosy read which focused on Aria, a witch who has had difficulties with her powers her whole life but feels an affinity for plants. After a chance meeting years before, she considered Callan her enemy - one she wasn’t expecting to run into again. In a small village, it’s hard to avoid anyone, especially your competitor at a weeks-long competition that holds your future, and the future of your village, in the balance. This was an easy read and I liked Aria and her friends and family, as well as Callan, but I didn’t feel much of a connection between them, and would have loved to feel more chemistry and to have truly seen their budding romance play out on the page. It felt like the romance was a side plot, which in itself is okay, but since we spend all our time with Aria and Callan it’s difficult to say that they had chance to fall for each other in a short space of time, when they encountered each other - in the grand scheme of things - not too often. Otherwise, it was a good read and I liked the insight into different types of magic and magical beings and the tasks for the competition.

I received a free copy of this book. All views are my own.

I absolutely loved this. It’s sweet and cozy and cute and funny. The author does a great job of describing the world that Aria and Callan live in. It made me want to live in the quaint little town of Charming Cove. I loved the supporting characters, especially Boris. I totally want my own Boris and will make him all the bacon sandwiches. This book is a quick easy read that gives you the warm fuzzy feels. I really hope this is the beginning of a wonderful series because I am in love with Charming Cove.

Ohhh this book fed my heart and soul. It was an absolute joy to read from start to finish and I was left feeling so warmed and happy. It was like a pure hug in book form.

It was so cosy and I know it’ll be a world I long to go back to again. I’m so happy there will be more books planned in this series as I seriously need it! It’s one of those books you don’t know how much you need until you start it. It’s a snuggle up in a blanket and a cup of tea kind of book. Break out the biscuits and calve out half an hour of chilled reading time and you’ve cracked it!

I absolutely devoured the book in just over a day and I want to do back to the beginning and read it all over again. It felt like a gentle and low stakes read but also a drive to win and find yourself along the way kind of journey for the character. It was delightful. It had all the tropes I love: enemies to lovers, forced contact that turns into genuine connection, family and friendships, magic, witches and community. It has everything!

Aria was such a great character too and watching her grow from her chaotic beginnings was fab. Callan, the billionaire playboy type returning to compete was a great element and the whole challenge to win the chance to inherit the much coveted Garden of Enchantment was super entertaining.

After this I can definitely say I am a Charming Cove convert and will eagerly await the day I get to go back and slip back into this cosy series again.

What a lovely witchy romcom, enjoyed every second of it.

Aria is classed as a 'dud' with her magic, but she is entered into a competition to win the Garden of Enchantment, however the 'Witch Weekly's Sexiest Man of the Year' appears back in town to also compete..

It was enjoyable to read the plot, characters, families and friendships, and of course, I cant forget about Boris - he had me laughing out loud a couple of times. Think he might be my favourite furry character!

The ending had me smiling with how heartwarming it was, and I can't wait to read more of the Charming Cove series!

The time simply just flew by whilst I read this cute, magical romcom about a Witch whose powers just don’t cooperate . Aria hasn’t really fitted in anywhere since leaving Cornwall but when her Grandmother asks her to come home and help win a magical garden it’s a call Aria cannot ignore . It’s just too bad that one, she knows she can’t win with her flaky magic and two, Callan the guy who previously ruined her connection to her Grandfather is also in the competition and he definitely has a handle in his magic !
This was an easy, fun read that had amusing characters and a sweetness to it that felt very satisfying . The romance is low key if honest and it’s primarily the journey that Aria makes to understand her powers that kept this story merrily bouncing along . All in all an entertaining story with little angst and a whole lot of a happy ending and what more could I ask for ?
This voluntary take is of a copy that I requested from NetGalley and my thoughts and opinions are honest and I believe fair

I’m a magical disaster. My magic never quite worked right, and I was teased relentlessly my entire life for it. At 18 I left the town of Charming Cove and set out on my own. When my grandmother comes to me and begs me to come back to town to enter a competition to take over one of the largest gardens, I reluctantly go. As soon as I get back I run into Callan – the sexy, rich, womanizing talk of the town. Too bad I hate him. He’s also in the running for the garden, but I play to win.

Ah! What a fun and cute book. This one was amazing witchy romcom. The main character was a whole lot of fun. She had flaws but was also very sweet. This book was a light enemies to lovers as I don’t think that it is a true enemies tale when one of the parties doesn’t hate the other. Callan was an amazing character as well, he really cared for her. The gardening competition was amazing. I loved how vividly the setting was. I felt like I was right there in the town of Charming Cove with the characters. I also love that this one is the first in a series – I can’t wait for more.

This one is out today! If you want a super cute, light, witchy romcom then make sure to grab this one!
