At first I was a bit confused about what was happening in the first chapter or so but if you feel similarly stick with this book because it got really good really quick with an ending I didn’t see coming.
The Bigamist by Rona Hall was a quick read with alternating POV chapters. While I enjoy this writing format, I had a hard time connecting with the characters as portrayed. I found the storylines a little too far-fetched and the ending left me shaking my head, looking for another page. Perhaps the author plans a sequel and purposefully left the hanger, but I was left feeling mostly disappointed in this book.
Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for this electronic ARC. All opinions expressed are authentically my own.
Unfortunately, The Bigamist was a DNF for me. I can usually suspend disbelief when reading fiction, but it was too unrealistic to me for a real-world mystery/thriller. Thanks to the publisher for an advance copy.
Wow! This was excellent in my opinion.. what a page turner I couldn’t put it down. It’s got plenty of twists and turns all the way through and the ending was amazing. The characters were great and story itself was very enjoyable and suspenseful and the style of writing was perfect. I have read other books by this author and have immensely enjoyed them all, I can’t wait for the next book to be out.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading psychological thrillers.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.
Rona Halsall is certainly a writer who can turn everyday events on their head and creates drama. This is the third of her books I have read and once again she has certainly gone out of her way to pull the reader in with multiple twists and turns. I was invested in this story for a while, but certain events had me suspending belief in order to accept what was going on. For me the constant changes within the plot felt a little too ‘busy’ at times, with too many surprises dropped into the story, something that I felt spoilt the enjoyment of the whole thing
Emma is married to Sam, an architect, who works away during the week and returns at weekends. Pregnant with their first child, she begins to suspect her husband is less than truthful with her when she discovers an article in a magazine featuring a house he's designed for retired model Marcey Dubios. What is contained within the article leads her to suspect he has been leading a double life. But, of course, things are not quite as clear cut as they appear.
A disappointing read – a shame as I have read several of her other books and really enjoyed them - but as I mentioned above, there are parts which didn't work for me and for that reason I only feel able to award three stars.
My thanks to Rona Halsall, Bookouture and Netgalley for an ARC of The Bigamist in exchange for an honest review.
Rating: 4 stars
Omg, this book had so many twists and turns!! It's definitely worth the read if you like this genre.
I'm really interested to read more from this author.
Thank you to Netgalley, Rona Halsall and Bookouture for providing me with this copy. All opinions are my own.
I had a difficult time with this book. It just never pulled me in. Interesting story, I just lost track of the characters and honestly didn't like any of them...maybe that was on purpose. I'll have to read it again to see if I missed something.
Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and mostly the author for this advanced copy.
Unreliable and unlikable characters, a plot that pushes believability and I liked this book anyway. Why? It was the suspensful. creative and unpredictable plot that almost effortlessly engages the reader in a suspenseful thrill ride. The twists and turns in this book were so much fun and completely unexpected. Emma, coming out of a time of loss and sadness meets her match at a grief group and finds herself in love with Sam, a young aspiring architect and his counselor sister, Faith. Enter the Bigamist, but no spoilers here. Grab this book. Author Rona Halsall is a master chef of suspense. Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this advanced copy of The Bigamist in exchange for my honest review.
Having read and enjoyed a few of Rona’s books in the past, it was an easy decision to choose to read her new book, as she is a very good writer and her story lines are pretty impressive.
So her latest book, The Bigamist, I was intrigued by the title and the blurb. The story itself was for the most part highly enjoyable/entertaining and plenty happening throughout, certainly kept me engaged and turning those pages pretty quickly.
I had a love / hate relationship with a couple of the characters, main one being Emma. I just didn’t feel for her at all, and there was quite a few things she did that I completely disagreed with, couldn’t believe she did them and all that she got away with too.
And then there was the ending, or should I say what ending, there was no ending, it was left (in my opinion) open ended with no actual conclusion of the story. Now some readers may be a fan of those sorts of open ending storylines, where the author invites the reader to come to their own conclusions as to what might have happened. But nope not me, so not a fan of those. I’m kind of hoping the open ending means that there will be a follow up book, but who’s to say on that front.
I feel bad writing the above paragraph, as author Rona is a great storyteller, that comes across in her writing every time, she knows how to keep her readers captivated. So yeah I really really wanted to love this book as much as I have her others, but I just feel a little bit empty and that the story was left unfinished.
Lastly, don’t let my review put you off from reading this story, as if you’ve read other reader’s reviews you will hopefully have garnered that this book is very much worth a read.
Unfortunately, I struggled to get into this book. I do plan to give it another chance, because the writing was good, the premise seems good... It just didn't captivate my interest the first try.
The Bigamist by Rona Halsall took me on a thrilling ride of deception and secrets. From the moment I started reading, I was captivated by the story of a woman who falls deeply in love with Sam, a charming architect. Their life seems perfect, but as the plot unfolds, shocking revelations turn her world upside down. Sam is leading a double life—he's already married to someone else.
The twists and turns in this book had me gasping in surprise. I usually pride myself on predicting twists, but this story had me completely blindsided at times. The slow start quickly gave way to a gripping tale that I couldn't put down. The narrator's skillful storytelling added to the intensity of the plot, making it an immersive experience.
While the ending felt a little overwhelming with multiple revelations, it didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the book. I was left craving more from this talented author. If you love dark and twisty thrillers with unexpected turns, The Bigamist is a must-read. Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange for my honest review.
Emma and Sam are married and having a baby which should be perfect. However, the title of the story gives away the storyline.
Rona has a clever way of writing books which always have a twist that you just don't expect. A definite must read.
***** I received this ebook as a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
I started out loving this story. It has me turning pages wondering how it was going to turn out. There was a great twist with Emma and Zach and I was all in. BUT… then the story went into a completely different direction. It didn’t fit the story as well as it had started. The second half of the story disappointed me.
I’ve never read anything by this author before but liked the cover and blurb of this one. It had a unique storyline with plenty of twists and turns. It kept my attention from start to finish and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will definitely be reading more by her in the future
SO GOOD! Full of twists, turns, unexpected moments. I stayed up all night to finish this one. I had no idea where this one was going, had me guessing til the very end!
2.75 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the E-ARC. I was really into this book until probably the 60 % mark then it just sort of went downhill for me and felt like everything after that just dragged. I was already disappointed by this point that I did not enjoy the rest of the story. I didnt vibe with the rest of the book but that was just me because I have read another book by this author and enjoyed it
Full of suspense, lies and deceit, an absolute page-turner, with a unique twist that I never saw coming.
Rona's best book yet and one I will definitely recommend .
Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy of this amazing eARC!
FABULOUS psychological thriller that keeps you guessing throughout amidst lots of suspense & some very
interesting characters. RECOMMEND this & all of this authors' other works as they are all great!! Thanks to#NetGalley/#Bookouture /for #The Bigamist in exchange for my honest review.
A dark and gripping thriller with twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Even though it was a little slow in the beginning it did have me hooked from the start! I'm usually pretty good at guessing twists in thrillers as I read so many but this honestly had me completely surprised.
Due to the clever writing you’re so suspicious of everyone and constantly kept guessing. It’s an entertaining, well paced, twisty thriller.
I can't wait to read more from this author!
Emma met her husband at a grief support group through the leaders of the group faith who was his older sister. She felt her and Sam got on so well and she hasn’t felt this good since losing The life she once knew. Before she knows it she’s pregnant and her and Sam are planning a future not to mention Faith and Emma or becoming the closest friends almost as close as Faith and her brother Sam are. While going through a magazine she’s looking at an award-winning house notices a painting that she knows isn’t original because it belongs to her when she looks further in the article she sees her husband Sam’s name. When she calls his phone to ask him about it another woman answers and Emma informs the woman she needs to speak to Sam she’s his wife and it’s important, the woman tells her she knows who she is and that she is not his wife because she’s his wife that Emma is just a stalker that won’t leave her husband alone. this is one of the most twisty backstabbing full of liars duplicitous people and I am being serious when I say there’s dishonesty all around and a little delusional thinking on MS part. This was really a great book a definite five star top-notch read! There’s only three or four authors I know can write a great book like this in Rona Hall saw is definitely one of them this is a really great book and one I highly recommend. I want to thank NetGalley and Bookoucher for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
