Mary Burton is a go-to author for fast, thrilling murder tales. "The Dollmaker" was another great book added to her belt.
THE DOLLMAKER has a plot that pulls together both current murders and a 12 year old cold case. The cold case was that of the male lead Dakota’s half-sister, who he adored. Her death had a deep impact on him, and has affected his decisions and who he has become. Although there were some easy guesses, I still enjoyed Ms. Burton's writing and the way she pulled the story together.
The relationship of Tessa and Dakota was interesting. 8 months ago Tessa ran from a marriage in crisis and disappeared in an overseas assignment. That Tessa seemed immature, but the Tessa who returns in someone you can get vested in. Dakota doesn't believe the marriage can be saved but Tessa fights for it which I liked.
More mystery/investigation than actual RS, which is the way I like them.
Another unique mystery from Burton she always does a great job of drawing you in and connecting you to the characters. This one was fast paced and a great weekend read.
This book was unputdownable. The author's writing style was very engaging and the storyline kept me hooked from beginning to end.
The characters were well developed, the plot packed full of suspense and overall it had a very intriguing and slightly creepy premise.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading Mystery Thrillers with a second chance romance subplot.
Thank you Mary Burton, Net Galley & Kensington Books- Zebra for providing me with a copy of this book.
This talented and gifted author has written a cannot put down novel. It is a page turner. It is fiction but reads like a television thriller and nonfiction. The dolls are women…creepy to say the least. Red herrings kept me guessing. Realistic characters keep the story moving quickly. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author. Burton writes exceptional stories. Some of the scenes might be left out between the couples. That being said, this is great.
