The simplicity of this story made it an easy listen. i liked the narrator and the story was fast paced enough to keep me invested. The twists and turns could be predictable but a fun mystery.

This story revolved around four individuals. Ellie, living at home with her mum, working in a job she hates as a waitress, spending her days in bed lacking motivation to change her life. Dawn, Ellie's widowed mum, upset and annoyed at her daughter's attitude to her life. Ellie's boyfriend, Darrell, a US citizen, someone she met on an online chat. Darrell's dad, Harvey, owner of a substantial house and pool in Los Angeles. Given the title of this book it always seemed inevitable that we'd find out Darrell was far from the perfect boyfriend, whatever Ellie might think, and the author did a good job of revealing Darrell's flaws, and exploring how others saw him as the book progressed. What I didn't expect was to find myself so annoyed by Ellie (who seemed to constantly whinge and whine and have totally unrealistic expectations of life) and Dawn (the words paranoid and controlling come to mind here). I did enjoy listening to this book, although found it took a while to get into it. The story itself also ultimately proved, for me, a little predictable

Another addictive novel from Daniel Hurst. It was a fast paced thriller. Some of the plot was predictable, but still I enjoyed the read. Thanks NetGalley for the audio eArc.

This one was prettt good. Not my favorite by this author, but still enjoyable. A young woman in the UK meets an American man online and falls in love with him. She and her mother travel to the US to meet him in person. Once they arrive, things take a turn 👀

This audiobook was an easy listen. It wasn't the most cryptic story and I easily guessed what had happened, however I liked the characters and I liked the narrator.

I’ve enjoyed quite a few of this authors books but felt this one didn’t quite match the others. It was a bit predictable and I guessed the twists.

The narrator was excellent. Yes, the narration was just as great as the story. Daniel Hurst has proven to be an author you know you’re going to get a solid gripping can’t put down stories from. Where did you meet the love of your life? If you ask this question to a number of people, you will get different answers. Some years ago, people would maybe rather meet face to face in a disco or at work, but nowadays it's not unusual to meet your one on the internet.

Is it normal to want to go and see them in order to find out if you could have a future together? No, not at all. Talking online and living together are two completely different things and I think it's a very good idea to spend a couple of days in each others company.

The book reminded me a bit of the show '90 days fiancee' where people from different countries, continents, cultures, religions fall in love and live happily ever after.

What I really liked here is that Ellie is not like a love sick puppy, believing everything her boyfriend tells her, but she asks questions and when she does not like his answers, she just does not accept it.

If Ellie would be my daughter, I would do exactly the same thing Dawn did: book myself a plane ticket too.

I liked the characters and the twist. I liked the way Ellie reacted, because even though she is in love, she still keeps her act together.

This is my fourth book by this author and I have loved them all and I have a few more to go. I have read the audio book and I want to say thank you to the narrators too. They did a splendid job just like the author did. 5 stars

Thank you

I am a big fan of Daniel Hurst's thrilling novels, eagerly anticipating the release of each new book. While "My Daughter's Boyfriend" provided an entertaining read, I must admit that it fell short of my expectations. Although it had its merits, the predictability of the plot diminished the overall thrill I usually associate with this author's work.

One of the book's strengths is its readability. Hurst has a knack for creating stories that are easy to follow and comprehend, making it a breeze to delve into the narrative. The writing style flows smoothly, allowing readers to progress effortlessly through the pages. For those seeking a quick and straightforward read, this book undoubtedly fits the bill.

The inclusion of a couple of twists within the story added a layer of intrigue. These unexpected turns momentarily piqued my curiosity and provided a glimpse of the author's skill in creating suspenseful moments. However, it is regrettable that these twists were ultimately predictable. As someone who appreciates the element of surprise in thrillers, I found myself anticipating the outcome well before it unfolded. This predictability hampered my engagement with the story, and by the halfway point, I began to lose interest.

Despite my disappointment with the predictability, I still recognize Daniel Hurst as a talented writer in the thriller genre. I have thoroughly enjoyed his previous works and would undoubtedly pick up another book by him in the future. "My Daughter's Boyfriend" may not be my favorite among his collection, but it still showcases his ability to craft an engaging narrative.

If you're looking for a quick and easy read, "My Daughter's Boyfriend" offers a solid choice. It is a book that can be consumed effortlessly, thanks to Hurst's accessible writing style. However, if you're seeking a thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end, this particular novel may not meet your expectations.

This book was a super fun & twisty psych thriller with multiple POV. Although we predicted the ending (we high fived for being right😂), we found it really entertaining& found the characters to be written so well!

A bingeable, sit down in one sitting kind of thriller for sure & Dan is wanting a sequel😂

A great read!

This was my first from the author and I was not completely bowled over. I did like the story line however I found the characters a bit boring. The story did get quite predictable. Its a quick summer read.

A deceivingly good story of a mothers love and intuition leading through dread to hope to horror. Take your time to immerse yourself into this one as it really keeps you on tender hooks. Embrace a mother's instinct and comprehend what you would do in the same situation!?

This whirlwind story is fast paced and easily read in one sitting. As the title denotes, the story is about Dawn and her grown up daughter
Ellie who Dawn would love Ellie to settle down with a boyfriend and move out of home. Told from Dawn and Ellie’s point of view, the pair set off to LA to meet Ellie’s new online boyfriend. Dawn going to ensure Ellie is safe. They are met at the airport by boyfriend Daryl and his dad Harvey. On the journey to their house, Dawn sees a lots of posters for a missing girl and gets blank responses when she questions Harvey. Suffering with jet lag, Dawn is up early and explores the house, she goes into the basement and unearths some items clearly no one wanted her to see. Including a photo of Daryl and the missing girl. Alarm bells start ringing when Ellie isn’t in bed, and she learns Daryl has taken her to a secluded spot. Is Ellie in danger?
A clearly written story, with the title making you wary of Daryl, but he wasn’t the only person with secrets and a dark side.
You won’t be let down by Daniel Hursts latest, delivering a punchy psychological thriller.

Right from the off I was totally drawn in to this book. A very topical subject, meeting someone you feel you love online many many miles away often in another country.
Ellie does exactly this and tells her mum she has a boyfriend and she loves him but he lives in America and she's in the UK. Cue a trip to America to meet Daryl. Ellie's mum, Dawn is very protective of her daughter and allows the visit to go ahead as long as she goes with her.
As soon as they arrive, Dawn begins to feel that something is off and then the unthinkable. Ellie disappears and Daryl has taken her.
The level of intensity ramps up really quickly. The writing style draws you in and off you go on a journey of doubt, death, and definitely edge of your seat stuff. Daniel Hurst is a great writer in this genre and one I recommend.

My Daughters Boyfriend
By Daniel Hurst

Dawn is a widowed single mom who tried to protect her daughter Ellie. Little does she know the extremes she will take to protect Ellie.
Ellie signs up for a new app that connects people and allows them to chat. It’s not considered a dating app but in Ellie’s case she meets the man of her dreams. Unfortunately Daryl lives in Los Angeles, thousands of miles away from Ellie in Sussex. When Ellie becomes secretive, Dawn knows something is up and investigates finding that Ellie had this new boyfriend. As Dawn is apprehensive, Ellie wants to plan a trip to meet Daryl to which Dawn insists she goes with.
Will Dawn and Ellie make it out of America?

I enjoyed listening to this story even though for me it was predictable. It was an easy, enjoyable quick read. The narrators were great and aided in making the story even that much more enjoyable.
I love how the author set us up for a sequel and can’t wait to read the next installment.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture media for the advanced copy of this audiobook I turn for my honest review of this story.

Daniel Hurst has done it again! My Daughter's Boyfriend is another gripping suspense with unexpected twists and turns. Hurst has a way of creating flawed characters that seem so real to the reader. This particular plotline is every mother's nightmare. As a side note, Ellie's words, as well as persona, came off to me more as a bratty teen as opposed to a young adult in her twenties. I was a bit distracted by that. Hats off to the great narrator.

I have read several books by Daniel Hurst and this was sadly, among my least favourite. The story is told from two perspectives: the mother and the daughter and I did not find either of them particularly compelling. I will continue to seek out other books by Hurst but if you are new to his work, perhaps select from his other titles for your next read.

Wow! Not going to lie, everyone saw this coming, but that definitely doesn't takeaway from the story. This books is super fast paced and engrossing.

Seriously, the daughter Ellie drove me crazy. She acted like a school age child and the mom let her amount to nothing. Then she meets a guy online who lives 5,000 miles away and decides its a great idea to meet up. Thank goodness she brought her mom to save her since she wouldn't have been able to do it.

Thanks NetGalley and publisher for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
