Wow this was a twisted novel of a book and I have to be honest I struggled a bit to like the mum in this book I thought she was very judgemental and untrustworthing but without spoiling it I guess maybe some of her instincts were on the money in the end. This is dark and exciting and a fun audio listen.

Tensions between 24-year-old Ellie and her mother have reached an all-time high. Ellie is still living at home and her mother, Dawn, thinks it’s time she moves out and starts a life of her own. She gets her wish when Ellie leaves England for L.A. and Daryl, the man Ellie has been having an online fling with. Dawn goes along for the trip and at first, Dawn is charmed by both Daryl and his father, but before long, cracks begin to show in the veneer and Dawn realizes that Daryl is not at all what he seems to be. There’s a nice twist in this tale that readers will love

In My Daughter’s Boyfriend we meet Dawn, mum to 24 year Old Elle, Elle herself, her new boyfriend Daryl and his dad.

Dawn has been bringing up Elle, since her husband died 4 years ago. Their relationship is fraught. Elle comes across as a selfish, immature young lady and Dawn just felt Meh

Elle, spends most of her time locked in her bedroom, only leaving to go to do her shift at a restaurant and Dawn is struggling financially to keep things afloat. Scared to ask Elle for financial support after Elle accused her of wanting her to move out.

Elle has recently met a new boyfriend online and has decided she wants to go to America to meet him. Next thing we know both Dawn And Elle are on their way to stay with this random boy and his dad in their house in another country. I just found this so far fetched and unbelievable with how quick it all happened and how Dawn readily agreed.
Elle came across as a very childish character and acted more like an 18 year old than 24

What will happen when they get to America? Is Daryl who he says he is? What about his dad?

While I didn’t dislike this story I just felt at times that it was unbelievable and far fetched. I couldn’t believe decisions that were being made or the way characters were acting to things that did happen.
I listened to the audio version and felt the narrator’s did a good job and read their character well.

I got annoyed at 2 points in the story when 1st Elle was out in the car with Daryl and then Dawn being driven by his dad the narrative used the term ‘the driver’ instead of the character name. It felt extremely weird especially as at other points it mentions their name. I couldn’t understand why suddenly it said the driver like it was someone else driving the car

This was my 1st book by Daniel and I am keen to explore more

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to listen to this title

I received and ARC for my honest review. I loved the book and give a 4.5. I loved all the twist and turns but found the daughter to be bratty and entitled, and it made it a little hard for me to sit thru her chapters, but the way the book left off I definitely would read a sequel

My Daughter’s Boyfriend
Daniel Hurst
Ellie is a young adult in her early twenties, she lives with her widowed mother in Suffolk. Her life seems bland to the point of being boring. She spends a lot of time on her phone talking to Daryl, a young man in the United States. She fancies herself deeply in love with him. He invites her to the U.S. insisting his father, Harvey, will pay for her ticket. Her mother, Dawn, isn’t comfortable with Ellie going to a foreign country and staying at the home of two strangers. Dawn decides she will accompany her daughter on the trip.
After picking the two women the men invite them into their home and give them a tour. Ellie and Daryl spend the first evening swimming while Dawn and Harvey relax beside the pool watching. Dawn and Harvey discuss the loss of their spouses; Harvey indicates he would like to find someone special.
During the night Dawn wakes up thirsty and heads downstairs to the kitchen for a glass of water. She opens the wrong door and discovers the basement. Curious, she wonders why they did not point out the basement when they were given the home tour. She makes her way down the stairs and finds numerous boxes filled with women’s clothing. She comes to the conclusion that Harvey has been unable to bring himself to give away his wife’s clothing. Then she accidentally knocks over one of the boxes and sees something disturbing. Could this father and son duo be guilty of a heinous crime?
I listened to this book in one sitting. The genre of this tale is psychological suspense. Dawn and Ellie are the main characters, and this story is told from their point of view. I can’t say I like either of them. Ellie is a whiny brat. She lives with her mother and works as a waitress. She is old enough to be on her own but doesn’t have the desire to leave home, she prefers to be mostly dependent on her hard-working mother. Dawn does not encourage her daughter to leave the nest and she is overprotective; however, they may not be bad in this instance. Daryl and Harvey are secondary characters but very important characters in this tale. I found Dawn to be nosy. Why would she go into the basement. That was rude. Harvey and Daryl were not obliged to show them the basement. She invaded their privacy. Of course, this was necessary to keep the story moving.
The plot in this story is low key. I actually figured out who dun it and how, long before the author revealed the information but that didn’t detract from the story. I don’t normally like books where the ending is open-ended but this one has me eagerly waiting to see if the author will continue this story.

My Daughter's Boyfriend is an entertaining and predictable thriller throughout its short story. This is my third book by the author and unfortunately this is his weakest book for me. The story follows Ellie, a young woman who lives in England. She comes to LA with her mom to meet her boyfriend she met online. At first everything is roses and rainbows but soon some things don’t start to add up.

The other books I read by the author hit me with some crazy and unbelievable twists that really left me speechless. This book I figured out early on and was on the money with every prediction.

Even though I knew what was coming I still did enjoy the book very much. I look forward to any story by this author. I recommend this book and if you like it maybe check out one of his others like The Doctors Wife.

This was a fun, creepy, thriller that kept me guessing...until a certain point. I read my first Daniel Hurst novel, The Doctor's Wife, earlier this year. I really enjoyed that story and it made me eager to read other Daniel Hurst books. I was so excited to receive My Daughter's Boyfriend as an advanced listening copy. In my review of The Doctor's Wife, I wrote that I was afraid that the story was going to be a bit dry for me in the beginning but that suspicion was quickly washed away as the story began to twist and turn. Sadly, My Daughter's Boyfriend did not have the same level of twistiness. In the beginning, I was genuinely curious and couldn't stop listening. I needed to know who the villain was! The storyline quickly became very predictable. I was surprised by how predictable the plot of this book was. I kept expecting a final twist of redemption but it never came. That being said, I still enjoyed this book. Daniel Hurst writes stories with characters that you love to hate with delightful sprinklings of dry humor. His novels are the perfect thing to reach for when you want a fun, fast-paced mystery to read on the beach or listen to on a car ride. I must add that I loved the narrators of the audiobook version of this novel. Harrie Dobbie and Tamsin Kennard do an amazing job. If you love an audiobook with British narrators look no further! This book was not a favorite for me but I will definitely be reading more of Daniel's backlist novels and look forward to new releases! Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for the advanced listening copy of this novel.

What a fun Audiobook. I had a full day of errands and chores and this book was my soundtrack all day. It was filled with over-the-top thriller tropes and I really enjoyed it. The two narrators were excellent and kept the book rolling along.

Told through two perspectives - a mother and grown daughter - My Boyfriend's Daughter is about the dangers of meeting someone online. The daughter Ellie has met Daryl online and fallen in love. He's in California but she's in the UK. To be on the safe side, her worried mother Dawn decides to accompany her daughter to L.A and meet Daryl. They'll stay at his dad's place and everything will be fine...😳🤨

If you enjoy domestic thrillers, this is a fun one for sure.

A solid domestic thriller with, mostly, unlikeable characters. It always amazes me that I can be invested in the plot, but totally be cool if they all died in the end. Daniel Hurst has created this situation for me - four main characters, a widower and his son and a widow and her daughter.

The two children meet online and form a "relationship" despite being in America and the UK. Of course, being in love after chatting on line, a visit is arranged with the daughter flying to America to stay with the two men, but whoa, Mom has seen one too many Liam Neeson movies and insists on traveling to America with her so she can protect her daughter.

Here's the rub for me which I struggled with throughout the book - the daughter is 24. She acts like she's 14 and the mom treats her that way. Aside from the death of a dad, we are given no reasons why this fully grown adult woman acts so immaturely. The dialogue between the parents about "allowing" their ADULT children to have sex on the first night of their arrival made me nauseous.

Fast forward to a missing woman mystery and a bunch of red herrings and, overall, the ending to My Daughter's Boyfriend was satisfying. Sadly, this is a fairly easy plot to guess which I did (for the most part). If you are looking for a quick read which doesn't require any effort on your part, please do give this one a look when it releases on 6/3/23.

Ellie and Daryll meet online, as all young people do. The only problem is that Ellie lives in London, while Daryll lives in Los Angeles (United States)
Ellie and Daryll plan to meet up in Los Angeles. Ellie's mom goes with her because, grown or not, she is not willing to let Ellie go out of the country alone
While they are there, they stay with Daryll and his father.
Ellie's mom starts to discover secrets and see things she doesn't like
Is Ellies mom being paranoid, or is there something definitely strange about Daryll and his father

Dawn is a widow who lives with her 24-year-old daughter Ali. Ellie has started up a friendship with Darryl online. He has become her new boyfriend. The only trouble is he lives in America. The only way that they can meet is if Ellie travels to meet her new man, Dawn will only let her go on the condition that she accompanies her

On arriving in America Dawn and her daughter are amazed by the home that they are staying in with Darryl and his father. However, Dawn notices flyers around the area for a young girl who has gone missing. On an evening where she can’t sleep, Dawn goes to investigate the house. This is when she comes upon, a photo of Darryl and the missing girl.

Dawn needs to make sure she gets her daughter to safety. Are they even at risk or is it just a figment of her imagination.

The narrators of this book did a good job of bringing the two female characters to life , although the story started off slowly, it’s soon gathered paste and led to a fantastic climax. I look forward to the next from Daniel Hurst. Many thanks, Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to see an ARC.

Five eye-rolling stars!

Daniel Hurst takes "online love" to exciting new levels with this twisty and intriguing relationship drama.

Is it possible to fall in love with someone you chat with online without physically meeting them?

Ellie quickly becomes enamored with Daryl, a guy she has "met" online.

1) PROBLEM #1
Daryl lives in Los Angeles and Ellie lives in the UK.

2) PROBLEM #2
Ellie knows NOTHING about Daryl and when she travels with her mother to meet Daryl, that is when the book's beguiling twists begin.

Overall, the book was an unputdownable, fast-paced, and fun read even though it was replete with many eye-rolling moments.

I listened to the full-cast audiobook read by Harrie Dobby and Tamsin Kennard.

Both narrators did an over-the-top job with the narration.

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am a HUGE Daniel Hurst fan and always look forward to his new releases.

This creepy story engaged my curiosity from the very start.

Dawn is a widow and because of this is over-protective of her daughter. Ellie still lives at home and has met an American guy, Daryl, online, who she intends to go and visit.

We all know the risks of this situation, so although Dawn “meets” Daryl online herself, she is still unsure and so insists she goes with Ellie to LA. Everything seems great; better than great, but Dawn still doesn’t feel quite right and so, trusting her gut, she starts digging.

I loved how the writing had me gasping in horror and then breathing a sigh of relief as all seemed ok, and then another twist would have my heart racing again!

I did guess the ending eventually, but it didn’t spoil a brilliant story and the epilogue revealed another twist and alluded to a possible sequel, which would be brilliant (hint, hint!).

Brilliant narration by Harrie Dobby and Tamsin Kennard on the audio book.

4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.

What does a widowed mom do when her only daughter falls in love with a guy in another country?
Thus, this new Daniel Hurst book begins.
Finding a guy, Darrell, online, 25 year old British Ellie decides she’s going to LA to meet her love in person.
Skeptical mom, Dawn, insists on going along, to protect her daughter.
In LA, they meet Darrell and his Dad, and, although they seem nice, Dawn finds some peculiar clues that make her question the relationship. Is Darrell really the mate for Ellie?
This fast moving, twisty thriller doesn’t disappoint.
Daniel Hurst is a masterful writer!

"My Daughter's Boyfriend" is an exciting book written by Daniel Hurst. The story is about a widow and her daughter who lives in England. The daughter falls in love with a guy from America whom she meets online. To keep her daughter safe, the mother decides to accompany her when they plan to meet in person in the United States. They also meet the widowed father of the American boyfriend during their visit.

At first, everything seems perfect, with a big house and a great relationship. But as the story goes on, unexpected things happen that create suspense and excitement. The book explores the idea that love can sometimes make people ignore the truth.

The emotions in the book are strong, and the author does a great job of showing how people feel. The story moves quickly, keeping readers interested and wanting to know what happens next. The ending suggests that there could be a sequel to the book, which leaves readers curious and wanting more.

It is a captivating story about love, relationships, and a parent's desire to protect their child.

Dawn is very uncertain when her daughter Ellie declares that she is in love. At the age of 24, her daughter is certainly a old enough to live her own life, but with Dawn and Ellie living in the UK and Ellie’s boyfriend, living in the US, Dawn is very nervous that Ellie wants to meet him in person Dawn agrees to let Ellie meet the young man, who is named Daryl, but only if she accompanies her so Dawn and Ellie head to LA for a week.

While the young couple do seem to be quite in love, Dawn’s uncertainty only grows after meeting Daryl and his charming father. After a shocking discovery, Dawn has Ellie pack her bags. Their vacation is over, but the drama that has suddenly become part of their lives is only just beginning.

This ARC came across really well as an audiobook. The story itself was quite intense and with the dual narration of two excellent voice actors, the intrigue only grew. There were some great surprise twists and a really shocking ending.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

This book is definitely one of those books where you know what is going to happen from the beginning of the book, so if you do not like predictable ones, you probably want to give this one a pass. Although it may not keep you guessing, it is a fun play on the dangers of online dating and a very fast read. Ellie (24) is still living with her mum while working as a waitress. Neither woman has quite recovered from the loss of Ellie's father, which leaves them a little vulnerable to predatory men pretending to be charming...especially American ones in sunny Los Angeles.

I this book was my first ever book by Daniel Hurst. I would give another one of his books a chance. This book is about a mother, Dawn, who has her 24-year-old daughter, Elle, who lives with her. Elle starts talking to a boy online named Daryl. They start dating and she wants to meet him because they are long-distance. There is a lot that happens because you never know who someone truly is. The book was an easy read for it being 6 hours long. I was pretty happy with the ending. The actual end of the book is unpredictable. The narrators did an amazing job and I loved the 2 different narrators. I loved that this book was written in the 2 povs of Elle and Dawn. It was great hearing the 2 perspectives on events. Dawn is a very caring mother. I think there were many parts of the book that was a little predictable. Elle was a very annoying character and made decisions that I felt were childish for someone who is 24 years old. Dawn I truly wish was way more assertive when saying the truth and what she wanted. I did feel like it didn't need to be a 6-hour long audiobook. I did enjoy the way some of the scenes were written. I do wish the characters were way more likable to me.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
While this book was a bit unbelievable I still enjoyed it.
Most mothers wouldn’t just let their daughter go to another country to meet her internet boyfriend and also go along with her. But that is how this book starts out.
Kind of a predictable ending but still a good listen.
Narrator did a good job. It kept me interested while I was mowing my farm today.

This book is like all of Daniel Hurst’s book a page turning thriller. He detailed the characters perfectly. Ellie is a spoiled and very unlikeable brat. I sadly found myself liking the killer far more than her. Dawn the mother is a push over that gives in to her child’s every notion. I found the ending to be a shock. I can’t help but wonder if a second book is coming just based on the ending.
