In a short picture book of cute illustrated scenes, an anxious whippet learns to approach the world with more openness and less fear, with the help of a doggy friend and a seagull.
I was drawn to this book because I love dogs and cute things, and I also worry a bit too much. Hah!
The illustrations are pretty to look at. The scenes seem to be aiming for a mix of amusing and touching. To me they seemed kind of hit or miss. Might borrow this from a library to read to a child, but I wouldn't get this for myself or another adult unless they had a thing for anxious whippets in particular.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Celebrate for the opportunity to read this e-ARC.
Such a sweet collection of stories about a whippet who is learning how to become more courageous.
Really sweet way to talk about friendship, fear, and joy.
Also I love the artwork!!
A supersweet extended picturebook (is that a thing?) about an anxious dog called Jesse, slowly learning to accept other dogs and the world in general.
The illustrations are lovely, the story is nothing earthshattering, but it is everything nice.
This was such a cute book. As the owner of two whippets I was drawn to the title and the cover. The story is very sweet and tells the tale of a worried whippet who overcomes her fears with the help of her new friend buddy. I really enjoyed the illustrations, especially the ones where Jess is wearing her sweater!
Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book.
Sweet book that made me think about my dog that also has anxiety and is easily scared. The drawing style is nice with very cozy pictures, and the lessons are great for every age
This was such a sweet book about being brave when faced with social anxiety around a variety of scenarios. I loved the art style and think that having the story centered around the dog was wonderful.

picture book for all ages (readaloud, graduation gift, etc.- most vocab is easy reader level but there are a few trickier words such as "Friendsnesday" and "beautiful")
The eyes of the dog on the cover pretty much say it all. This charmingly illustrated book offers short chapters/episodes and sparing text offering comforting dialogue and reassurances about social and general anxiety, meeting new people (and seagulls), making new friends, going to new places, moving, etc.
Worried Whippet is a sweet graphic novel about an anxious dog named Jess. During the stories, Jess meets new friends and tackles her anxiety in small ways. The stories are so heartwarming and really speak to others who may have anxiety.
I personally found that Jess related to my own dog, and I loved seeing how she was able to become braver with the help of her friend, Buddy.
"Worried Whippet: A Book of bravery" is a children's book centred around an anxious whippet named Jess. With its whimsical illustrations and endearing storyline, the book follows Jess as she overcomes her fears and ventures into the world.
What a cute and heartwarming book! Worried Whippet by Jess Bolton is a short and sweet read - exactly what I needed to make me feel all warm inside before a long week ahead.
I relate to this worried whippet so much. I cried reading the kindness and empathy other characters showed her--this is generally not the reaction in real life.
Thank you for the ARC.
A wonderful book about growing up and battling through your fears. The drawings are cute for children. The main character is adorable in all his actions and expressions. Any animal lover of any group will appreciate this story and its lessons.
I just reviewed Worried Whippet by Jess Bolton. #WorriedWhippet #NetGalley
This was ADORABLE!! Wonderful!! Absolutely charming. I loved that the pup had so much relatable anxiety and ways of dealing with it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Celebrate for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!
5/5 stars
Worried Whippet is a beautiful illustrated story about a very nervous whippet. Whippets are such elegant and expressive dogs, I have 3, that Jess is the perfect main character. I love how there are so many talking points for teachable moments with children, so my preschooler loved this story, too. Worried Whippet will warm your heart!

- I wonder who my friends will be.
- The friends you start out with aren't always the ones you end up with, you get to choose.
- But who should i choose?
- whoever makes you feel good! and whoever gives the best hugs.

I received an ARC for this graphic novel via NetGalley, Thanks to The creative team, Harper Collins, And most of all thanks to Worried Whippet! For this opportunity.
This will come out 5th of September of 2023, I am making reminders on my phone calendar for all these ARCs btw, to remind everyone when they officially come out by sharing the review again, for the entire day!
This is a graphic novel of short stories, or rather scenes, from the life of Worried Whippet.

Someone needs to hire this dogo, as a dog Pajama model, if they didn't already!
I related to the description about the anxiety on NetGalley, so i applied for this, But when i got it and read the Goodreads description and found he has a Tiktok channel! i went and google worried whippet and i fell in love with him.

It's exhausting to always be so full of feelings, especially when they're so big and you're so small.

I recommend this to all dog lovers, all people who dealt with social anxiety, or are dealing with it now, it's so light a read, that it will lift your soul right up, you will relate to Jess the worried whippet, you will draw parallels between your anxiety and his, and you might glean some comforts from his journey, things that others might say more aggressively to you, or be said as advices in time you can't really see a way out, Jess is your friend, but be careful he sometimes gets confused between food and friends!

Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between friends and food.

Not everyone's gonna like you, just focus on the one's who do!

This was a dogilicious read (i just invented this word) It was crazy, how i kept relating to Jess, which makes me 99% sure i might be a worried whippet in my next life, But you know what! that's not a bad thing at all! He eats blue berries and makes friends with them! and he has awesome pajamas! No one asks him to not wear them outside too!
For me this was not written by a human, this was written by Jess the worried whippet, and i say that in the best intention ever, i would like if someone said that when i am writing the thoughts and adventures of my dog too!
Even though this tackles anxiety and social anxiety, i think kids will love it too, because what we see as an anxious dog and might relate with him, kids might see as a shy dog or something else and it would be funny.
Jess says Home is where your humans are, Or as Arabian Juha says, Home is where my wife is!
I will put up review at the day of the release, thanks!
I really enjoyed reading the book.
It's a simple story with great meaning, that surprised me in so few pages.
The main character deals with everyday things, stepping out of his comfort zone each time.
At the beginning we see anxiety and fear, latter we see friendship and evolution.
Is has a deeper meaning to it, and I think it will reach everyone's heart.
What a darling book. Beautifully illustrated and written about a dog who gets nervous and worried. There are a few different storylines which was unusual, but welcome. I loved Jess and watching her growth and confidence build was absolutely lovely. I think adults and children alike with love and empathize with this book. Everyone gets anxious, worried, or nervous and that's ok (sometimes you can confront those, with help from a friend, and sometimes you can have a stay in bed day).
Cute and quick little read about a puppy named Jess who is anxious about the outside world. When Jess finds her first friend, she conquers her daily challenge of being less afraid of the world that's waiting for her.
This was simple and cute. I would find it very hard to find something wrong. I did think this was going to be a different kind of graphic novel but that was on me and doesn't reflect the book's quality overall.
What a beautiful tale. How Buddy totally validates and acknowledges Jess' struggles and fears makes for a heartwarming lesson of life!
Worried Whippet was just a lovely little book. I loved the various chapters, of Jess facing their fears about various obstacles, like seagulls, other dogs, and the beach. I loved the friendship between Jess and Buddy, it was beautiful. I think adults and children alike will like this tale. It's ok to be anxious, but you can still keep trying.
