This is a surprisingly well-written, harrowing account of Jackie's life as someone with life-threatening eating and food issues. and how it affected every aspect of her life. It is heart-wrenching and quickly draws the reader into her mind and thoughts.
Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced copy!
As a fan of the Real Housewives of New Jersey, I thought I had an idea of what this book would further expand upon, but had no idea of the extend of what Jackie was struggling with. The topic of course is very dark and Jackie goes deep into explaining her childhood and how her struggles evolved over the years. This book was a huge step forward in Jackie's recovery. She is recognizing what is not normal, how to share with others and the importance of seeking help, to help herself and ultimately not carry this down to her children.
As a fan of Bravo Real Housewives franchise I always look forward to reading about the lives of these over the top women.
On the RHNJ Goldstein has been open about her struggles with a life long eating disorder, and many fans have noticed her weight and eating habits on the show . Although I am not a fan of hers on the show I do respect and admire her openness about her struggles . It can not be easy for anyone much less someone who is on television to constantly have her looks commented on .
This is a wonderful book following someone’s journey to health .A great read for anyone who struggles with food or knows someone with a eating disorder.
I just reviewed The Weight of Beautiful by Jackie Goldschneider. #NetGalley
I have been a fan of Jackie Goldschneider since she joined the RHONJ. Being a Jersey girl myself, I found her to be far more like the Jersey girls I grew up with as opposed to the ones already on the show. I have always admired her in her honesty with her battle with anorexia, and was interested in her book when it was announced. Jackie is honest and open in this book in a way she admits she hasn't been on the show yet. It was both heartbreaking and inspiring to read. To see her work so hard to overcome her battle with food makes me proud to be a fan of hers.
#NetGalleyARC This was a really good read. I'm a fan of the RHONJ so I was a little familiar with Jackie and her story but this book really goes deeper into it and into how Jackie felt during her ED. I appreciate anyone who is able to tell their story, especially when it's a story of a struggle, and give her so much credit for the honesty.
I don't watch The Real Housewives so I didn't know who the author was prior to reading this book. The book is a harrowing and detailed account of her decades of living with anorexia. It may be a triggering read for those with an eating disorder.
Jackie exposes the sad, frightened world of the anorexic and the rituals and thought patterns that ruled her life. She managed to marry a compassionate, loyal man and have 4 children, become a journalist and then a TV personality all while remaining controlled by the eating disorder and its demands. It is a good read for anyone who doesn't understand anorexia as it lays bare the pain and compulsiveness involved in maintaining a low weight.
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.
This was definitely the best-written book by a Bravoleb I’ve ever read. However, it was kind of a brutal read just because of the content. It’s a pretty painful story and much more was delved into besides what they showed on the show. It gave me a lot of secondhand anxiety when she described her intense eating disorder, but that just tells me that it was great writing to make me feel what she was feeling in the throes of her own anxiety. I hope Jackie is doing well, and I hope she does truly know now that she is beautiful at any size.
