Looking for a fun and refreshing read during these scorching summer days? Look no further! Long Time No Sea is your book! As usual with Portia’s books it is the perfect mix of romance and comedy, making it a light and uplifting read. She’s definitely one of my MUST READ authors when I’m in need of some laughs.

How does an all expenses paid trip to the Italian coast sound? Bloody awesome, if you ask me! That’s what Jas thinks when her best friend from high school arranges a reunion of their old group of friends. But she’ll have to share her holiday with her ex boyfriend and the one that got away, reigniting an old love triangle that will get even more complicated when a day trip turns out unexpectedly.

The story is told in dual timelines, and it was a fantastic way to add some depth to the characters. In the past we get to witness how their friendships grew when they were teens, allowing the reader to better understand them in the present and where they were coming from during their reunion in Italy. A big event when they were kids made them lose touch, keeping secrets from each other for a long time. This whole thing added a nice touch of suspense to the story, making you guess what could have happened to break their friendship.

All the characters felt pretty real, even though some of them were a bit hard to relate to. Clarky was such an annoying guy. I admit it was fun to read about him, but dealing with him in real life would be a huge NO! All of them had their strengths and their flaws. Even though on the outside they seemed to be living their best life, they were all struggling some battles, and secrets and silence weren’t letting them move forward.

I think the whole premise was quite relatable. That bittersweet moment when, after many years, you meet old friends, realizing that maybe now you don’t have so much in common as you did, and that the things that tied you together back then may be the ones keeping you apart now, basically because you’re not anymore the same people you were then. Accepting that, and not trying to force old patterns, is the only way to let a new friendship develop.

What promised to be a relaxing vacation soon turns into a series of hilarious situations that made me laugh out loud several times. That resort was quite something! But the story also has some emotional moments and the author did such a good job balancing both, inserting a joke or making a witty remark to lighten the heaviest moments.

Long Time No Sea (great title, btw), will bring you back to your teens with that sense of nostalgia of when you were a kid ready to eat the world, only to end up being eaten by it. Romance, laughs and old friendships make of this the perfect summer read!

High school friends reunite. What could possibly go wrong?

This novel goes back and forth between now and then. There was a situation which caused them to not speak for years so it does come up now and again.
The characters were very strong with each of their personalities and I really enjoyed getting to know this friend group.

So many relatable comments throughout this novel. Things such as how we go back to ‘old ways’ when we are around those we haven’t seen in years. It is a reflex it just happens. I loved how it played out though because it was realistic given the odd plot line with Clarky sending them all to a shipwrecked island misleading them all to begin with and then ending up in a sex dungeon of a room.
It was absolutely hilarious and entertaining.

This was such an enjoyable summer read! For someone who is in her 30's, this was a very relatable story about old friends catching up and trying to escape reality and make yourself feel like you've got it all together! When in reality, everyone hits road bumps along the way.

Full of strong friendships and working through some hurdles, thinking they are going on a relaxing vacation that turns into a wild ride! This story is sure to please! Jasmine and her friends grow stronger together in this story, while revisiting old drama that needs to be aired out.

Long Time No Sea had me intrigued from the start and didn't let up!

I love Portia MacIntosh's books. They are always quick, fun reads. That said, this one didn't hit the mark for me. It was still an easy read, but I didn't find the characters likeable. I had trouble connecting to them and therefore was not able to enjoy this much as her other works.

This is a laugh-out-loud romantic comedy which is perfect for summer reading at the beach or by the pool.

I loved the dynamics between the characters and it was interesting to read the chapters from the past which gradually revealed what had happened which meant they had lost touch with each other.

The differing personalities of each character also helps to keep the plot pacy as well as the ‘will they, won’t they’ relationship between Jas and Cam.

A thoroughly enjoyable read.

With thanks to the author, Rachel at Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to participate in the tour.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this book!
Unfortunately this wasn’t my favorite book, but I can see how others might find it appealing. For the characters being a bit older than I normally read, they certainly didn’t quite act their age and it was quite immature sometimes. It definitely did have funny parts to it. I’m also never a huge fan of split timelines as I often want to just continue with whichever story (time) I’m in rather than bouncing back and forth. It was a quick and easy read though for sure.

Long Time No Sea by Portia MacIntosh invites readers on a delightful journey to the Italian coast, filled with sun, sea, and unexpected reunions. With its charming setting and engaging characters, this book offers a lighthearted escape that explores the complexities of love and second chances.

The story follows Jas, who unexpectedly finds herself moving back home in her 30s. When her best friend organizes a reunion with their high school friends in Italy, Jas eagerly embraces the opportunity for an all-expenses-paid trip. However, what was supposed to be a carefree vacation turns into a whirlwind of emotions when she reunites with her ex-boyfriend and the one that got away.

MacIntosh skillfully captures the idyllic atmosphere of the Italian coast, immersing readers in the beauty of the setting. The vivid descriptions evoke a sense of wanderlust and make the backdrop of the story come alive. The author’s ability to transport readers to this picturesque destination adds to the book’s charm and provides a perfect escape for those seeking a feel-good read.

The exploration of love and second chances forms the heart of the narrative. Jas’s encounters with her past lovers, coupled with the unraveling secrets, create a compelling love triangle that keeps readers engaged. MacIntosh presents the complexities of relationships with depth and authenticity, allowing the characters’ emotions to resonate with the reader. The question of whether the past should be left behind or if there’s a chance for a second shot at love adds an element of intrigue and keeps the pages turning.

The characters are well-developed and relatable, each with their own flaws and vulnerabilities. Jas is a likable protagonist whose journey of self-discovery and navigating her feelings is easy to connect with. The interactions between the characters are filled with humor and warmth, adding an enjoyable layer to the story.

While Long Time No Sea offers an engaging and enjoyable reading experience, there are instances when the plot feels predictable and relies on familiar romantic tropes. Some readers may find themselves wishing for more surprises or deeper exploration of certain themes. Additionally, the pacing could be more consistent, as some sections feel rushed while others could benefit from a quicker pace.

In conclusion, Long Time No Sea is a charming and light-hearted novel that transports readers to the enchanting coast of Italy. Portia MacIntosh’s skillful storytelling, engaging characters, and delightful setting make this a perfect choice for fans of romantic escapism. Although the plot may occasionally fall into familiar territory, the book delivers on its promise of an enjoyable and heartwarming story of love, friendships, and second chances.

So much incredible, unexpected events are happening in this book, I can guarantee you will not get bored while reading this book! I loved it!!! It's very different from all the stories I have read from Portia MacIntosh and it is very good! 4 stars out of 5!!!!

Long Time No Sea might not be the book for me. While I enjoyed her previous works, this was a miss.

Thoughts:
• it's dragging and hard to get through. Everything has occurred in this book was poorly executed.
• it has potential (I firmly believe it) because of her previous works but this one just lacks the depth I was seeking to find in this book.
• also, the plot lines and character's growth were upsetting.

I apologize for the unsatisfied review but the author can do better than this.

Thank you to the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a cute book with a fun pun of a title. I can't wait to see what's next from the author and I like to imagine where the characters are at now.

Once again Portia MacIntosh shows she has incredibly funny bones, in this story of friendship, secrets set to a gorgeously sunny Italian backdrop.

At least it really ramps up a gear after Clarke's suggestion for an excursion for these friends reuniting for the first time in ages, where things aren't quite what they seem.

from that point on the book was rathe addictive.

Interspersed with the present day happenings, we get flashbacks to the group's teenage years, leading up to the night where they essentially ended up going their separate ways and that none of them are keen to talk abou

This is a good light hearted rom romcom, that has some rathe memorable moments in it, that will make you smile.

A pure joy to read.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

A gripping summer read - the dual timelines make it a page turner and easy to read in a day or two! The friendship group issues are deliciously dramatic, and they spiral pretty quickly! Despite the friendship relationships taking centre stage, it doesn’t detract from the sweet romance of it. I wish there had been a proper epilogue!

What to expect:

- friendship drama
- Italian holiday
- secrets and lies
- dual timeline
- pretty closed door romance
- second chance romance
- love triangle

I had a hard time to get into this story. I like Portia's writing style but unfortunately this book was not a one I fell for. The characters acting like they still were teenagers when they are in their 30s. I'm in my 30s but can't relate to this characters at all. I would definitely recommend other books by Portia!

This book was a quick and enjoyable read, blending elements of romance, comedy, and nostalgia seamlessly. The story revolves around a group of friends who, due to life's circumstances, had lost touch with each other. However, fate brings them back together for a trip to Italy, igniting a whirlwind of adventures that keeps readers on the edge of their seats.

What captivated me the most about this book was the clever interweaving of present-day escapades with flashbacks to events that occurred fifteen years ago. Learning about their shared past added depth to the characters' relationships and motivations, making the story feel richer and more engaging.

While I didn't personally connect strongly with the characters, I found myself drawn to each of them with all their strengths and flaws. The author skillfully portrayed their complexities, making them feel like genuine individuals struggling with their own inner battles and dreams. I couldn't help but root for every one of them to find redemption and happiness.

One aspect that stood out was the author's exceptional talent for injecting humor into the narrative. Even during the most intense or emotional moments, a well-timed joke or witty remark never failed to lighten the mood and bring a smile to my face. This masterful balance between laughter and heartfelt moments enhanced my reading experience and made it thoroughly enjoyable.

While the rom-com theme is evident, the book also carries a nostalgic charm that tugs at the heartstrings. It captures the essence of friendship and the bittersweet nostalgia of rekindling old connections, making it a perfect read for anyone who cherishes reminiscing about the past and cherishing present moments with loved ones.

In conclusion, although I didn't forge a deep emotional connection with the story, the well-crafted characters, humorous moments, and the touch of nostalgia made this book a delightful and worthwhile read. I commend the author for crafting a tale that strikes a balance between laughter, adventure, and heartfelt reflections, leaving readers yearning for their own chance to revisit the past and embark on new life adventures.

I really think Portia MacIntosh is one of the best authors out there. The fact that she can push out quality books like this for us makes me so happy. Thank you!

6.5/10. An easy read for the lake but nothing memorable. I had a hard time really connecting with any of the characters, though I wanted to like them. Everyone has their own agenda/secrets and it seems like instead of trying to reconnect all they want to do is impress one another. However, I'd likely do the same if I was whisked away to an island on a private jet, ha!

A fun adventure with 6 friends reunited after years of haven’t seen each other. It was well written rom-com, there was a few giggles. Enjoyed the past and present timeline to understand the friends’ friendship.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review. As I have with all of Portia MacIntosh's books, I enjoyed this one. I wouldn't say it was my favorite, largely because I felt like it was slow to really get started. But once it did, it pulled me in just like all the others. The characters were nicely developed and I found myself laughing out loud several times. Would definitely recommend!
