Logan is an archaeologist on a career changing quest to find a lost city of gold and Winter is the photographer assigned to his expedition.
After a first meeting marred by prejudice and preconceptions, Winter and Logan channel their inner Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy as they willfully set out to annoy each other while denying any sparks of attraction exist between them. Events take a serious twist and our two main characters have to rely on each other and utilise all their skills just to stay alive! The story is told at a great pace and you are really rooting for the main characters and other expedition members to come out on top!
This book was previously released as 'From Thailand With Love' and as a huge fan of Camilla Isley I had read it under that title. Is it worth buying the new version? Yes, it definitely is. The ending has been well fleshed out and is much more satisfactory - I always like to know what happened next!
Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood books for the review copy.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a bit campy, but fun. Pretty predictable as well. But I am an archaeologist so love reading books about archaeologists! This was quirky. Ask me how many times I have found gold and diamonds....Ha ha Never. This felt like Indiana Jones meets Jewel of the Nile. Fun 4 stars
Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC.

Love Quest follows Winter, a photographer and Logan, the head archeologist for the expedition they are embarking on.
Pros: This book really flies by. I read straight through without stopping. Once it starts, the pace really moves quickly with quite a bit of action.
Cons: misogynistic characters including the hero, cliche plot points
I would recommend this book to someone looking for a cliche fast-paced romance with action.
This is a captivating enemies-to-lovers romance. The setting was brilliantly described and the main characters were explosive with their banter and chemistry. In the search for the lost city, with all its adventures, you will feel as if you are inside an Indiana Jones film.
Thank you Netgalley for the e-book in exchange for my honest review.
2.5⭐️ while there really wasn’t anything terrible about this book, I found it so cliche and predictable that I could’ve told you the entire plot by the 20% mark. I also spent the first few chapters wondering if I missed something because there were these vague references to what happened between Summer and Lana. So while this book isn’t necessarily a sequel, it appears that it references events from a previous book. You can still read this one as a standalone but the beginning might leave you a bit confused.
Of the characters, I honestly only really enjoyed Archie and Tucker. They were both good supportive friends and welcoming colleagues. On the other hand Winter was annoyingly immature and Logan was short-sighted and kinda misogynistic.
There were moments of fun and adventure but they weren’t enough to win me over. This book just wasn’t what I was hoping for.
Watch out Indiana Jones, Winter is coming!
A short action packed rom-com with archeological adventures and thieving monkeys.
This is a quick and easy read with an enjoyable story and a strong sensible female protagonist. The only issue I had was the romance was a lacking a little something but the plot and action made up for it. The side characters are interesting and funny. The opening scene is the best! Great book to read in a slump.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this arc in exchange for an unbiased review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
“There’s a naked man outside the hut next door."
The moment Love Quest began, I knew I'd love it. We first meet Winter while she's spying on her naked neighbor in a village in Thailand. She's preparing to join an expedition as the resident photographer when she sees the beefcake in all his glory.
Of course that beefcake ends up being Logan, the surly man in charge of her expedition. He's intense and grumpy and lets her know his thoughts on having a woman on this trip.
Through a series of harrowing adventures including mercenaries, a hidden city, and a janky bridge, Winter and Logan realize that they may have feelings for each other other than anger and animosity.
Love Quest had some serious Romancing the Stone vibes AND mentioned Fassbender, making me a life-long fan of the author. There was some Grade A cheese, a charming Viking, and banter that had me cackling. The romance between Winter and Logan felt natural without being rushed and I loved that he let her take the lead at times!
Camilla is a new-to-me author and I look forward to reading more from her!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
It was a little cringy and VERY cliché but overall i enjoyed the story - especially the plot.
the book starts with Winter who is a photographer on a expedition to find a lost city- except Logan the head of the expedition really doesn’t like Winter.
Overall, i really enjoyed the plot, and it was fun to see it all unfold! It was a little predictable but that was kind of nice - very easy yo understand.
I really loved the characters too- especially Winter and Archie towards the end.
The only thing that i had an issue with was Logan who would not stop complaining about women .. i thought it was majorly unnecessary… but i still found the book enjoyable as i overlooked it.
Absolutely loved it! This book was laugh out loud funny with enough romance and an excellent adventure to keep me on the edge of my seat! The chemisty between Winter and Logan was palpable!
3⭐️ I had higher hopes for this 😩 my first crush was Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones so of course I’m gona see this book and see the hot archeologist professor and go completely gaga over this.
This just fell flat for me. The love/hate and grumpy/sunshine trope isn’t really even all there. He’s just got a chip on his shoulder and she’s just along for the ride? Honestly Logan doesn’t even have much of a personality other than the misogynistic bull crap he tried to cling to in the beginning to make this enemies-to-lovers trope a thing. There were so many cliche moments and glossing over major plot holes that I was annoyed and frustrated a lot of the time.
There was so much potential though, so I’m being generous with the rating, and I know there’s an audience for this… its just not me…
Romancing the Stone fans, this book is for you! I loved this book so much and it was so fun. Borderline cheesy but in the best possible way. My only complaint was the abrupt ending but it was worth it.
Love Quest by Camilla Isley
This is part of a series, but you can read it as a standalone. I read the previous release of this story a few years ago, and I really enjoyed the rerelease.
Things I am here for:
Women photographers in historically men's fields. Travel, adventure, archeology, sports, etc. Winter is an adventure photographer and knows what she needs to do to be taken seriously by a team of men.
Willow knows how to ride a horse, perform field medicine, and shoot a gun, when the lead male archeologist doesn't.
Smart is sexy, so many PhDs in this story.
I received an advance review copy for free from NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I normally do not review books that I DNF, but right off the bat this book starts with a woman watching a nude man and recounting it to her friend, and then the male love interest talking about how he doesn’t like working with women because he doesn’t like “relationship drama”. I know this might be new to you, pal, but women who work with you don’t ONLY want to fuck you.
This is a no from me, and will mostly be enjoyed by readers who haven’t moved past their Wattpad bad boy needs. Hey, if that’s an itch you need scratched, go for it.
well… 2 stars.
This straight up wasn’t my cup of tea. This was literally 200 pages and I STRUGGLED to get through this.
My biggest qualm was the characters. Logan and his friends were misogynistic jerks, let’s be real. Their dialogue about Winter at the beginning of the novella made my skin crawl. Logan was meant to be a woman hater to portray the grumpy-sunshine and enemies-to-lovers tropes, but it came across as VERY offputting. He literally said “women: what a dreadful species!” The fact that that is a quote and that was written down, makes me want to bash my head against a wall. He absolutely SUCKED. He solely hated Winter for the reason that she had boobs and was ten minutes late to the first meeting. Doesn’t sound like much of a dreamboat to me.
Then there’s Archie, the best friend, who was supposed to be a womanizer, but came off as SUCH a creep. He obviously was meant to be charming and cute, but man oh man, he gave me the ick like no other.
I found Winter to be annoying and have some very questionably cringey dialogue. She was overdramatic and I felt like she wasn’t very likeable.
Then there’s the cliches. Evil military man is sinister and tries to kill all of the team. Evil military man’s friends help him steal the gold. MC’s are trapped because of evil military man. Saw it all a mile away.
All in all, this wasn’t for me. I’m sure many would find it cute and fluffy, but I wouldn’t recommend.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this e-arc in exchange for my honest opinions!
Honorable mention… Winter mentions being “taught to shoot a gun before she could even walk.” The thought of a 2 year old shooting a gun is so laughable and messed up, I couldn’t continue reading for at least 5 minutes.
I essentially gobbled this in a day. Which means, when I should've been doing deadline-driven, career-defining work, I decided to escape into this world instead. Enjoyable, adorable and fun.
A first for me from this author and after this as an intro, I'd be happy to catch up on her other works.
This was super cute! A sweet, adventure-filled, closed door romance with all the Indiana Jones and archeology vibes. An easy, fun rom com with an enemies to lovers ish vibe! Really enjoyed this one.
I have a lot of thoughts on this so I will start with a pros/cons list.
Pros: The opening was a quick, easy way to draw in the reader and made me laugh. One word: Monkeys.
Our heroine is goofy and at times her quips are funny (see cons for an extension of this thought).
Cons: Using the Woman hating trope as a ploy to make this more enemies to lovers-esque isn't my favorite. It reminded me of Unlikely Match by Laura Bradbury a bit. The pushback our FMC gives (calling him Satan and talking on the phone with Lara) was not my favorite. I understand the authors intent was to put them on separate sides of the equation but it felt a little too dramatic for the situation.
Our identical twin sisters' names are Summer and Winter. Come on. That shouts cliche!
Some of the quips from our heroine hit while others are just corny as hell. She ended up being more irritating than comical. Come to think of it, most of the characters are like this. This is one of Logan's greatest hits, "That's a nice camera,' I babble. 'How many megapixels?'" And this is because she has a camera hanging between her supposedly huge boobs. (insert face palm here)
Overall, I wanted to love this but it felt way too convenient, easy and cliche. I want a romance that has tension and not one moment of this book carried any true tension/angst. It was easy and fluffy and cute and that’s all well and good but at no point did I doubt they would fall in love.
2.5 Stars rounded up to 3.
I love Camilla Isley books and this one continues to deliver! To read this is to watch an amazing romantic comedy play out in your head. I loved getting to read more about Winter in this book. The characters are rich, well defined, and absolutely lovable. I highly recommend this series!
“Love Quest” by Camilla Isley
Are you Ready for ADVENTURE?
Yes, I loved my time in this story. I will admit there were times that things were so intense I just had to put the book down and take a break. But the breaks were short and I was quickly back in the story looking forward to the “What’s Next”. This can be a stand a-lone read but possibly a little bit better having read ‘The Love Theorem’ first. Now I am looking forward to the next story in this series ‘The Love Proposal’. Happy Reading ! !
Note: This review expresses my honest opinion.
I received and ARC of this story from the publisher via NetGalley.
Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the ARC!
(Really a 4.5 on my scale for those that also deal in half stars)
Winter is a highly respected photographer, and she’s been invited to document an archeological mission in Thailand. Logan is the professor leading the expedition, and he’s not excited to have a woman joining his team. On a mission to find the lost city of gold, Logan and Winter cannot stop butting heads. However, when the situation becomes more dire, will they be able to work together to make it home alive? With the close proximity will Winter and Logan be able to keep their respective barriers in place or will they grow closer than they could have imagined?
This book was a barrel of fun! I can’t believe it, but I enjoyed it even more than the first book. While I was initially skeptical of how sexist Logan was coming off, as the emotions settled and became more clear you could see that Logan was just overwhelmed by emotions he hadn’t felt in a long time and didn’t know how to regulate those emotions in a constructive manner. However, this made for such a fun push and pull between Logan and Winter as the two equally headstrong protagonists both refused to budge in one-upping each other. The twist and turns as the book progress make the hunt for the temple, and the side characters on the expedition, just as interesting as the romance that develops alongside it – striking a really nice balance.
