Thank you to #NetGalley, Aria & Airies Publishers and Daniel Scanlon for the opportunity to read an advance copy of THE EXPLOIT, to be published 14 September 2023. 4/5 Stars for this suspense thriller about a genius level hacker who created software that would allow blackmail of anyone. The characters were all presented at the beginning of the book, which made it difficult to follow until about halfway through the novel. At the finale, it became apparent this was part of a series which I had not previously known. Anyone into coding and computer languages would love this techno thriller. #NetGalley #Aria&Aries #DanielScanlon #TheExploit
Everyone is after Dantalion but the one who wants her most is Ericka. This is a fast paced and topical thriller that blends good characters with a regrettably plausible scenario. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A page turner.
Spotted this book and after reading the description decided to give it a try.
The story starts with the hero broke after after the events triggered in her first story.
It starts slowly but does really keep you guessing as to where it's going.
Interaction between the main characters really does create a feeling of empathy towards the good and dislike of the bad.
Even if you are not a great fan of cyber warfare novels this book is really worth a read.
What is terrifying is that almost everything that happens is possible.
The mental rebuild of the main character is also very well written and shows an immense amount of background study by the author into the realms of psychiatry.
Definitely worth a read.
After reading The Hacker the first book to feature Agent Ericka Blackwood I thought I knew what to expect. Boy I so wrong. This is a tech thriller on speed. After the explosive ending to the last book Ericka is broken and on the run in fact she has gone rogue and has her own agenda. Her nemesis Danalion is back and is more dangerous than ever.. Revenge and an end game which blew me away. A terrifying techno thriller that I devoured in one sitting. This book deserves more than five stars and so highly recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the Arc in return for an honest review.
The second instalment of Ericka Blackwood and her fight against the online presence of Dantalion. Finishing from book 1 Erica escaped her job at the FBI to hunt down the killers who raped and lead to the suicide of her sister. The killers she’s been searching for for years and Dantalion found for her to distract her from her FBI job of hunting him down. Tragedy strikes and her partner and best friend suffers a terrible loss that sends her spiralling from a life of hiding, pills and secretly sulking the internet back into the FBI to catch and stop Dantalion, with a new found rage for justice and stuck on a tight leash from her new boss she uncovers his weaknesses and works to catch the man causing so much chaos in the world
In one of my favorite new series comes the follow-up to the stellar debut by Daniel Scanlan, The Exploit, bringing back FBI Special Agent Ericka Blackwood in one of the best techno-thrillers ever written.
When the prolific hacker Dantalion escapes Blackwood's grasp, she has to put all of her time and resources into capturing him. When Dantalion resurfaces, it is with an incredibly sophisticated attack on Pakistan airspace, involving a carefully coordinated attack with drones. Sending the world to the brink of World War III, Blackwood knows her time is running short.
Coming off the intrigue and excitement of his debut novel, Scanlan crafted another hit thriller, with interesting technologies replete with terrifying hacking techniques that are realistic and so incredibly sophisticated. Out of all of the techno-thriller books I've read, or even just regular thrillers that employ some light tech references or hacking techniques, this series is by far the best. It is packed with cutting edge technology and fascinating hacking ideas (*taking notes*). Not only that, but Scanlan has crafted one of the best, and most interesting new characters in the genre in Ericka Blackwood.
The Exploit is a brilliant cross-genre concoction of thriller, techno-thriller, hacker lore, and realistic possibilities, making it a terrifying blend of a thriller that will leave readers wanting to go off grid and only returning to civilization to grab the new Daniel Scanlan book.
Another great book from this author, I’ve read the previous ones and they are just as good, I loved the ideas in it and it kept me reading until the very end
Excellent story. Lots of action and twists and turns. Well worth reading
Scary how the digital world has taken over. Some real insights into how dangerous it can be.
Looking forward to more from Daniel Scanlan.
Many thanks to the author and publisher for the ARC and opportunity to enjoy this wonderful book
