Received a digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.
I LOVE Rainbow Rowell. I was left on such a cliffhanger the last volume! I have read each volume multiple times as well as the original novel, the novella, and the Simon Snow series. This world never gets old. I love these characters. 100% buying when it is officially released so I can read again and again!
I absolutely adore this manga adaptation of Fangirl. I love the art style, the story works so nicely in this format. It’s nice to be so excited for the next volume to a story I ready know. Fantastic.
Thank you to NetGalley and Viz Media for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Look, I didn't love this as much as the first two. This could be because it didn't actually have a lot of new stuff like the last one did, but also because it's not as excitingly placed narrative-wise as the first two.
Levi and Cath both know they like each other. They are trying to figure out what this looks like, and there's the whole not comparing herself to Reagan that Cath's doing, combined with Reagan asking for some ground rules to be placed because she doesn't want to lose her friendship with Levi either.
Just... people being pretty adult. But not riveting stuff. Honestly, the whole of this story is just waiting for Cath to have to interact with her mum for the first time at the very end, which was a very well chosen cliffhanger directly from the book.
None of this makes me at all think the last one of this series won't actually be the very best yet. (pages 202 to 353 of the paperback)
This is the third of four volumes in the manga adaptation of Fangirl, one of my all-time favorite young adult novels. I think the artist does a great job at capturing the characters, and the story is condensed well.
I love Fangirl and this manga series is so much fun! If you are already a fan of the series then I would for sure check this out. But even if you've never read the series, I would still say to read this series, it's just that good! Especially if you are a fan of Rainbow Rowell's other works or just a cute story in general.
A big thanks to NetGalley and VIZ media for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the original novel, and am so excited to see it all be adapted into manga. I'm also super excited to see all the new scenes Rainbow Rowell has included.
Fangirl (the manga) by Rainbow Rowell is a multi-volume rendition of young adult novel of the same name. Cath is a fangirl, a huge fan and fanfiction writer for the Simon Snow book series. But Cath is older now, and shouldn't be so attached to a series designated for children. Now Cath must balance her writing, college, and budding romance life.
Not to spoil anything, I simply must say I've been enjoying these manga volumes. I love how we've gotten new content, even after all these years. Now I just really want to go back and read the original novel.
I loved this volume of fangirl!! I've been a huge fan of the books so it's so cool to see them as a graphic novel nowadays. Fangirl Vol.3 is a fun continuation of the graphic novel adaptations!!
The Fangirl manga will forever take me back to my roots in YA - I loved the original book with my whole heart. This was beautiful and so nostalgic; reading back at an older age is cathartic, and it was nice to get more of an insight into Art *poor guy*. So great - I’m so excited for the final instalment!!
Fangirl continues in the third volume, with the drama increasing into high gear. After finally realizing her feelings for Levi, Cath spots him kissing someone else at a party. Not to mention, her writing partner, Nick, is refusing to share the credit with her. Her twin sister Wren has started reconnecting with their mother, who as far as Cath is considered, can just stay out of their lives.
The struggle continues with balancing college classes, her love life, and fanfiction writing. The trouble is that it's all becoming too much for Cath to handle and the stress is making her feel crazy. But when her father ends up in the hospital, Cath needs to start rethinking her life.
I've been enjoying this series quite a bit. The artwork is well done and really compliments the storyline. There's a good distinction between the fanfiction scenes and the actual story. I believe this series is ending with the next volume. I'll be looking forward to the conclusion.
The only negative about these Fangirl graphic novels is the amount of time between each one. The illustrations are wonderful, and you still get the same feelings from the story even with the abridged text. I can't wait for the next one.
Ah! This is so amazing! Fangirl is a fantastic book and amazing in manga form! To see the characters and watch them interact on page is amazing. Beautiful artwork. Another cliffhanger to cap off volume 3. Anxiously awaiting volume 4. Will probably reread Carry On immediately.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Yet another fantastic installment for this graphic novel. I enjoy that I can see the characters emotions on page!
Last summer, I read the first volumes of the Fangirl manga, and when the second volume left me with a major cliffhanger, well I needed to know what happened next. Although I am not Rainbow Rowell's target audience, I do enjoy talking with my high school readers about her books. I never read the original novel but I am enjoying the illustrations and storyline.

FangirlVol3 #NetGalley
This is an absolute delight and complements both the original novel and the first two volumes in the manga adaptation.

Volume two left off on a major cliffhanger and fans won’t be disappointed (except maybe in wishing for the fourth volume soon)!
The expression and movement of the characters in the art, especially reactions of anxiety, stress, annoyance, are so well illustrated in a way that feels messy, real, and raw.
Once volume 4 is out, it would be a wonderful box set for a college student’s comfort reading.
I'm starting to enjoy the story a bit more with this installment. Cath's character is starting to finally flesh out and Levi is starting to grow on me. I'm not a fan of Rowell's weird "kissing has to mean something blah blah" monogamous centric style of romance but that's on me so I'm trying to enjoy what I can about the rest. I'm hoping that the last installment will better integrate the characters with each other because right now it feels a bit disjointed.
I really enjoyed Levi's scene where he kept getting excited to hear more of Cath's story and I found the pacing and art to be fantastic!
I'm really loving the manga adaptations of the Fangirl novel. The illustrations bring a new life to the story for me, and I'm finding myself re-immersed in the world all over again. Anxiously awaiting volume 4!
Fangirl is a book that is near and dear to my heart and to see if be turned into a manga is a lovely way to revisit the series through different eyes.
3/4 is still sparkling and wonderful and full of love and anxiety and magic.
Fangirl itself holds a special place in my heart and on my shelves. So the fact that there is a manga adaptation just makes it even more adorable and I will not ever give this series less than five stars. The relatability of the characters, it has always astounded me. Add in the supe cute artwork and the brilliant way all the emotions are being shown, I cannot wait for volume 4!!!!!
What another amazing volume to this Fangirl graphic novel series! It was wonderful to see Cath being challenged to self reflect and grow. I can't wait for the next volume!
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced readers copy of this graphic novel!
I have said this my reviews for the previous two volumes, but if this series knows how to do one thing very well, its end the volume on the most dramatic moment possible. Even having read the novel, it always leaves me wanting the next volume right now (and having to wait at least a year or more!)
One more sentiment I will echo from my review of the previous volumes is that I really have enjoyed that they are not showing Cather as even keeled as she was in the book, and that whenever Wren mentions something that Cather doesn’t want (like meeting their mother again), Cather gets a bit unhinged. It’s the most emotional you really see her, and it's well depicted in a visual medium.
The only failing I find in this book is a continued personal feeling from the original book and the rest of the series, which is I really don’t care about Simon Snow, and the series gives him and the fictional story quite a bit of page time. Maybe I would care more about it if I were a Harry/Draco shipper? But I am not.
The watermark in the middle of each page (while understandable why it is there), makes it difficult to read some of the pages and ALMOST makes me want to wait for a non-arc copy, but I love this series too much to ever wait.
I really enjoy this series and eagerly await the next instalment!
